Israel’s people have suffered massively in this rivalry. One example would be when the Jewish people were deprived their right of a promised land in Ottoman Palestine. Firstly, Jennifer Rosenberg, in “Balfour Declaration” (2015), claims that in 1917, as the British wanted support from the Jews, they created the Balfour Declaration. The author also explains that “The Balfour Declaration was a product of years of careful negotiation”. The declaration was written on November 2nd, 1917 by Arthur James Balfour (Britain’s foreign secretary at the time). In 1915, a few British officials promised Sharif Hussain of Mecca the ownership of Palestine in return for more military assets which led to the creation of the McMahon Agreement (History Learning Site, 2015, p. 3). The important thing about this is that this agreement directly clashes with the Balfour declaration, which entangles later events.
