The first barrier that happens to affect me would probably be stress. Stress is one of the things that affects almost every aspect of my life. I don’t know why I tend to let stress get to me but I do. I have seen in the past that stress has made me not think as critically as I could thus making it hard for me to achieve my goal of critical thinking. The stress factor has overwhelmed me in thinking critcically by not allowing myself to throughly working problems through like I should. I also have seen where it has made my thinking not as effective as it could have been simply because I didn’t allow myself time to adequatly follow through with the steps to thinking critically.

The second barrier that affects me would have to be anger. I tend to be a short fuse. Well I use to be anyhow. Growing up I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and there for a while I was a real short fuse not knowing how to deal with it as I should have. I just recently in the past 5 or so years with the help of my wife learned to cope with my anger and thus for being able to think more critically with my anger. I use to before the problem even occurred already blew it out of proportion and simply not think critically at all. I have become less angry over the years and have made it a better attempt to think critically without

I also suffer from documented anxiety, so I always feel like the pressure is on. It can determine whether you will see the glass half full or half empty. Most people will never questions why they believe what they do or why they think how they do, as it has been embedded into from birth by your environments. Unfortunately not questioning your perception or thinking can be limiting to your social and intellectual growth or create barriers in your critical thinking. Not to say that we cannot overcome them though. All of us have opinions and ideas on just about everything and anything. Enculturation occurs when an individual is influenced by their surroundings, and cannot critically think through situations that they disagree with. It can be difficult in certain situations for me to keep a level head. My biggest barrier is emotion. I generally try to keep my emotions under control when in a stressful situation. However, if I am angry or my feelings are hurt It just takes over and clouds my judgement. This also sometimes makes me think too hard about the situation over analyzing the wrong details trying to find an answer. As an immigrant family, moving here from Iran when I was the age of 2, my parents had no experience in parenting but all the fear in the world. A lot of what I learned and was taught was traditional to the Baptist denomination.
