Outside Activity Paper – Baseball Game EPCC vs. Midland
El Paso Community College baseball games are great events to attend outside of school. The energy behind the stands and players are very powerful. Everyone is cheering and yelling for their team to win. While I was watching the El Paso Community College baseball game with my beautiful girlfriend, I noticed a diversity of ethnicities among the players. There were Blacks, Caucasian, Hispanics, and Mexicans on the El Paso Community College baseball team. Many things have changed since the 1800’s.
During the 1800s, African Americans did not have any rights as an individual. During this time century we don’t see African Americans having unequal rights anymore. Other ethnicities did not have …show more content…
We still have people who are judgmental on other people’s race in this time century but not as bad as the 1800’s. Life right now would be very different if slavery still existed. Attending this outside activity has taught me that most of society now accepts people based on who they are on the inside and not the outside. Before I end my outside activity, I would like to talk about the El Paso Community College baseball game and how it went. There weren’t many people at the baseball game. While at the game, it was very windy and cold. Maybe that’s why there weren’t a lot of people but, I’m not that sure. I didn’t find the baseball game fun or exciting. It was barely top of the fourth inning and Midland already had eighteen runs on the score board and El Paso Community College barely had five. The El Paso Community College baseball team, in my opinion, are not very good. It looked like they weren’t trying any offense or defense. I feel like if El Paso Community College baseball wants a better crowd at the games, they need to improve overall. But the good thing about attending the El Paso Community College baseball game is that it made me realize how lucky we are in society to not have segregation or be viewed unequal to others. We, as a society, still have issues with people being treated unequal but we’re slowly

Baseball is full of decisions; every single last pitch is a decision, whether to pitch it high, low, inside, outside. The coach must make the decision of which players to play on certain nights and whether or not to take a pitcher out of the game. I think baseball has the most decisions to be made out of all the “big four” sports. Most decisions in baseball are structured problems, they are easily definable. If a slugger keeps hitting the fastball, it’s time to make the decision of pitching him curveballs away from his hotspot in the strike zone. There is a standardized way of handling almost every type of player and situation. Granted, there may be certain decisions that are unstructured problems and are not faced everyday by the manager such as a star player going down with an injury. The manager must make the decision of how to fill the void left by the injury. If you believe in it, luck can be an unstructured problem as well. In baseball all decision makers are faced with either risk or uncertainty. I don’t believe there is any certainty in any sport. Even the best pitchers have games where they falter so nothing is to be expected. To be the best...

Hypotesis Testing

...Hypothesis Paper Mohammed Shayan Do Major League Baseball teams with higher salaries win more frequently than other teams? Although many people believe that the larger payroll budgets win games, which point does vary, depending on the situation. “…performances by individual players vary quite a bit from year to year, preventing owners from guaranteeing success on the field. Team spending is certainly a component in winning, but no team can buy a championship.” (Bradbury). For some, it’s hard not to root for the lower paid teams. If the big money teams, like Goliath, are always supposed to win, it’s hard not cheer for David. This paper will discuss the effects of payroll budgets on the percentage of wins for the 30 Major League Baseball teams of 2007. There’s 30 major league baseball teams divided into two divisions. The payrolls for the 2007 30 major league teams are based on a 40 man roster and include salaries and prorated shares of signing bonuses, earned incentive bonuses, non-cash compensation, buyouts of unexercised options and cash transactions. There may be some cases were parts of the salaries are deferred or discounted to reflect present-day values. The following list is in order of highest payroll. The chart on the left is payroll and the one on the right is number of wins for 2007. Based on the charts if a team is at the top end of the payroll chances are they will have a good season, after the top eight of the payroll it’s kind of scattered. So if they want...

...Running head: Research Process Paper Research Process Paper University Of Phoenix RES 341 February 28, 2011 Amy Ginsburg Research Process Paper Some baseball fans think there is a correlation between the number of wins and its affect on attendance. This discussion will involve what the research process entails for the topic of the number of wins affecting attendance. This research discussion will describe the purpose of the research, define the problem, discuss why the research is important, propose three possible hypotheses, identify the variables, and define the problem in quantifiable measurements. Finally, what questions will the research answer, and the necessary steps to follow in the research process. Specific factors contribute to the collapse of some organizations and have an effect on each team when it concerns financials. Declining financials lead to higher ticket prices and the inability to attract players who, in turn, affect the win loss performance of a team. Researching the fluctuation with attendance levels at major league baseball games requires identification of the quantifiable measurements necessary to identify the variances between one organization and other. By using the quantifiable measurements, it enables understanding the differences of attendance levels at specific games. The quantifiable measurements analyzed during this process include team, league, age of stadium, stadium...

Applied research is used by individuals on a daily basis to solve problems that occur in a business or a personal atmosphere. Basic research, also known as fundamental research, or pure research, is used to create a body of knowledge that is available to solve or predict problems before they occur. The purpose of basic research is not the formation of a definite solution, but to create a set of probabilities to predict current or future events. Team B has chosen a set of data that includes statistic relating to the business of Major League Baseball. Sabrmetrics

...Sabrmetrics Sabrmetrics Bill Stewart English Composition – ENG115 April 14, 2010 It has been said many times over that numbers do not lie but they also do not tell the entire story. Baseball is a game that has always been based in numbers and statistics. Now current baseball people, historians, authors, general managers use a new math termed "sabrmetrics" to determine the worth of a player, monetarily and statistically. No longer are statistics viewed as simple as numbers on the back of a bubble gum card. These mathematical equations are being used in business for general purposes, as well as human resources purposes and is now taught in collegiate universities. (Costa 2001) Sabrmetrics is a new way to look at people, players, statistics and to try to predict the futures. The name is taken from the combination of the acronym SABR (Society of American Baseball Research) and "metrics" meaning "measurement". (Albert 1994) Most business leaders are using 20th century metrics to create 21st century success. Business leaders were taught to "manage what we can measure" and, generally, what's most easily measurable are the more tangible aspects of life. In business, this translates to metrics like profitability and cash flow. Like baseball, businesses rely on numbers. (Bradbury 2007) Sabrmetrics can help a company in developing the right performance measures and monitoring tools for different scenarios and then allocate resources optimally to bolster...

Outline for Performance Enhancing Drugs Benefit to Sports

...OUTLINE RESEARCH PAPER Can Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED) actually be positive and beneficial for Major League Baseball? “As the likes of Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Roger Clemens and Alex Rodriguez saw their usage exposed, the sport fought back with tougher drug testing and after the 2005 season produced a program punitive enough to minimize the game's doping culture.” (Braun's test result gives MLB major jolt; With MVP under cloud, steroid era is revisited Bob Nightengale, USA TODAY), "Probably the biggest sentence to which he was subjected is the impact on whether he'll be a lock for the Hall of Fame and the stigma that is now attached to his name and his records."(Barry Bonds is sentenced in enduring BALCO saga; No end in sight to BALCO's reach by: Jorge L. Ortiz, USA TODAY). Quotes like these could have been seen all over newspapers and magazines all throughout the past decade. Yes, these athletes did use Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED), but a debate has raged on about just how right are we to scrutinize them for those actions and just how inappropriate their actions were? With baseball professionals on both sides arguing how much of an impact they really had on the game. More so, I'd like to ask the question of whether what they had done was actually in a way good for baseball, and whether Performance Enhancing Drugs should even be banned from baseball? Which, I believe they shouldn’t be for numerous reasons. In order to understand just how...
