Baseball VS. Football There are two main sports that are played and watched in America, they are baseball and football. These sports have many differences such as, the length of the game. They also have some similarities like they are both team sports. In some opinions people say that football players are tougher than baseball players, but others say that baseball is a harder sport. Baseball and football are similar in a few different ways. The first way that these sports are similar is, all the players on each of the fields have to be athletes. They are constantly running, jumping, catching, diving, throwing, and putting their bodies through tough physical activity. Each of the athletes on the field have to be in top shape to perform at the level that they are on, and if they are not preforming on the level they should be they will either get sent down or replaced. Secondly, to play either sport you have to be mentally involved the entire game. During any football game the coaches are throwing plays at you nonstop and you have to remember every play in the playbook. In a baseball game after each pitch a coach will give you a sign to tell you which play is on and what to do. Football players have to be mentally tough just as much as physically tough. Baseball players have to be even more mentally tough because baseball is a game of failure. In order to play each sport you have to have your mind in the right place. Lastly, each of these sports is a team sport. These two sports have a field full of players that have to coexist to perform on the field. During a team sport you have to learn to rely on all of your teammates, and to win each person has to do their job. Each of these sports is impossible to win without relying on your teammates. You have to learn to trust the person beside you and they have to learn to trust you. There are four main differences between the sports of baseball and football. One of the main differences between the two is that baseball players play offense and defense, and football players only play offense or defense. Each baseball player on the field has to hit for himself and go out and play a position during defense. Football players usually only play on one side of the ball, offense or defense. Another huge difference is the length of the games. A baseball game will last anywhere between three and four hours, and a regular game consists of nine innings. If baseball teams are tied after the 9th inning is over they will keep playing until someone wins no matter how long it takes. A football game is only two hours long, and has four quarters of fifteen minutes. If football teams end in a tie, they only get one chance to score or the game will end in a tie. An additional difference is the length of each sport’s seasons. The regular season for a baseball team is one hundred and sixty two games. However, if a baseball team makes it to the playoffs, it’s potentially another nineteen more games. The regular season for a football team is sixteen games and if they make it to the playoffs possibly another three more games. Finally, the last major difference is the number of men they have on the roster. A baseball team has a twenty five-man roster, and football teams have a fifty three-man roster. So, in comparison a baseball player will play more games, be on the field longer, and will have less men to replace him when he gets tired or hurt. My main argument is that you cant take a football player and put him on a baseball field he will not perform, but you can take a baseball player and put him on a football field and he will perform. I understand that football players take a lot of physical abuse but they would never last in a one hundred and sixty two game season. People may argue that baseball players sit on the bench for half of the game but so do football players, because they only play one side of the ball. In no way am I saying that football players are not tough, because they definitely are. I’m just stating the fact that baseball players are more athletic and skillful than football players.
