Next, I washed up the dinner dishes and cleared a spot in my kitchen sink to conduct the experiment. Assuring that my daughters had chairs pushed close to the kitchen sink to watch, I turned on the kitchen faucet and allowed a steady stream of water to flow at approximately 1/16 inch thick. Next, with the handy help of my oldest daughter Ella, I ran the hard-plastic hair comb several times through her long, dry hair. Instantly, I moved the static electricity charged comb towards the water stream and without hesitation, the stream of water bended towards the comb (see first attached picture). Wanting to experiment more, I placed the comb through my own anti-frizz product protected hair. After combing through my hair several times, I again placed the plastic comb towards the steady water stream. This time, the water barely curved towards the comb and then directly went back into an unaffected state. Lastly, I followed the lab instructions and blew up a left-over holiday birthday balloon and rubbed it against the hair of my youngest daughter (see second attached picture). Materials and Methods The materials needed for this experiment were five different food items, five small plastic bags, and five wet paper towels. For the experiment to be carried out, five small plastic bags were labeled with the name of each food item as well as the date that the experiment was being carried out. The grapes, a strawberry, a slice of bread, an American cheese slice, and a green pepper were all in their designated bags. A paper towel was then moistened and placed into each of the bags and partially closed to allow air into the bag. Bags were placed in a vacant counter corner that was approximately 20 degrees Celsius with minimal amount of light exposure. The bags were then left to incubate for seven days and observations of fungal growth was completed after incubation was complete.
