Batholomew Roberts also known as Black Bart has been considered one of the most successful pirates of his generation. Roberts was a tall and charismatic man who had enjoy dressing well. Although he was a religious man that didn’t stop him him from killing, stealing and showing cruelty to his victims. Roberts was born in Little Newcastle in southern Wales to the name John Roberts in 1682. During his career as a pirate he had been credited with destroying over four hundred ships and laying claim to many riches for the time(Bad Ass).

John Roberts had not originally not planning on becoming a pirate. Roberts had been the second mate on a slaver ship named the Princess of London when the ship was overtaken and captured by the pirate Howell Davis where he was forced to join the crew as their navigator. Due to his skills of running a ship and his fiery temper he had earned the respect of the pirate crew. He had used his …show more content…
Black Bart came across a treasure fleet of forty-two ships plus two man of war ships escorting them. Black Bart unwilling to go against the two man of wars decided to sneak in as part of the fleet, taking one ship without anyone else noticing. Upon threatening to kill the crew, he had the main treasure ship identified by the master of the ship and proceeded to attack the ship. Before anyone could react Black Bart had taken the ship and the ships started sailing off. the escort ships gave chase but were not able to catch them. After they had escape Black Bart chased after a ship thought to have supplies only to have some of his men, led by Walter Kennedy take the treasure ship and sail off with most of the loot. Furious by this betrayal and determined to not have this happen again he had made the articles and any new crew members swear to follow them and still have survived to this
