...Ruben Baez Professor Ward English Comp. 3/28/15 The Dark Knight Compare and Contrast Essay In the movie The Dark Knight we have Bruce Wayne (Batman) which is basically the hero of Gotham City. With every hero of course there has to be a villain also. The villain of Gotham City is in fact the Joker. I believe Batman and the Joker are one of the best hero villain combos out there, they go together perfectly and their both fit for each other, it wouldn’t be the same if the joker wasn’t around and if batman wasn’t around with the joker. On the other hand though they are far different from each other they have many different qualities, different things that motivate them to do what they do, and their personality and what approaches they make towards things. So in this case I’ll be talking about the similarities and the differences of both the Batman and the Joker in the Dark Knight movie. Batman’s character in the movie is obviously more the hero type, he is serious about protecting his city from crime, he covers his true identity but in reality his obviously a very wealthy person which allows him to have the things he owns like his powerful suit, his indestructible car, and all the gadgets he uses while his fighting crime. The joker on the other hand in my eyes is the perfect villain, his a complete psychopath in the movie, he dresses like a clown and wears make up to make him look a bit disturbing, he had a rough past, his a pyromaniac, he has no cares in the world, and he...

...Humanization of Batman Masking is the ability to take on the perspective of a character and enter a sensually stimulating world; a technique often used in comic books to portray a story that can only be perceived by one sense and yet must create a world through that single sense. A major way to draw the reader in is through the humanizing of the characters, especially the protagonist. In Batman: A Long Halloween, the protagonist is Batman, a dark hero who is serving to avenge his parents deaths by ridding the city of Gotham of all evil. The first way the author, Jeph Loeb, creates masking is to give his hero a dead parent background. As discussed in class, this is one of the most overused backgrounds and way to create a relationship with the reader, yet it is effective. After establishing the basic layer of a relationship with the reader, Loeb goes on to show what used to be a “normal person” is now a dark hero of his city hell bent on keeping his promise to his deceased parents that he “would rid the city of the evil that took their lives no matter what that evil looks like or becomes”. While most readers probably have not lost our parents tragically like Batman did, we can easily be sympathetic to how he must feel. To lose one parents can make a person feel alone and therefore when we see Batman’s two friends, Dent and Gordon, we can take peace in the fact that he has someone to count on. Throughout this miniseries, there is a personal narration by Batman in blue boxes...

...Batman vs. Superman As a young girl I was born watching Batman and Superman. I like both of them and they were both my favorite super hero’s, but I always had one that I like the most. Batman was the one I like the most because he was unique and had his own deal going on. Also, the movies that I watch the most were the Batman movies. One of the main reasons why Batman is my favorite is because he lives in a Gothic City. The one thing I like the most is when theirs trouble the police turns on the Batman search light in the sky. Both Batman and Superman compare and contrast in many ways, but they both fight for the same reason and like to help people and protect their community from criminals. Batman is one of the unique super hero’s I know because of the way he dresses and saves people. He drives a black automobile with weapons, and it also has a GPS that helps him get to where the crimes are happening. Batman does not really have powers like Superman, but he does have weapons that help him defeat the bad guys and criminals. He is also one of the best criminologist, and a tactician, as well as a master of disguise. He wears a black outfit with a black cap, and his face is cover with a black mask that has bat ears. His element is to help good people from criminals in Gotham City, and he also helps his community to be safe. Batman’s super hero sign is a bat that he puts up in the sky when theirs trouble. Superman is a hero that leads a double life; he works...

In this humble research we will try to shed the light on the aspects of mythology in batman as a superhero and a legend taking the dark knight trilogy as an example to examine how mythology is represented in this masterpiece by the brilliant director Christopher Nolan. The dark knight trilogy consists of 3 movies: batman begins (2005), the dark knight (2008) and the dark knight rises (2012). The three of them was directed by the filmmaker Christopher Nolan and were inspired from the batman character created by Bob Kane. ``Batman Begins`` movie was basically about the origin of the batman legend as a force of good in Gotham city. Initially Arthur pulled the sword out of the stone in order to give it to his foster brother, Kay. Arthur did not obtain the sword for his own benefit and personal well-being. As a result of Arthur pulling the sword out of the stone he ended up becoming the new king of Camelot. Engraved on the sword was this saying, “Whoso pulleth out this sword of this stone and anvil, is rightwise king born of all England.”(McBride). ...“I dont want to kill you, what would i do without you? Go back to rippin’ off mob dealers… no, no, no… no you, you complete me.” The joker is a criminal mastermind with an obsession for batman, the hero of Gotham city. The joker doesn’t chase batman with as much intensity until he sees his mutilated appearance; this represents the intelligent evilness that is present in every human, we just have to be given the right mask. A mask is a powerful thing; many people can only be themselves when no one can tell who they are. This mask can also be figurative. An example is the cocky, confidence the joker has, and the dark mysteriousness that accompanies Batman. The hero and the villain are different in so many ways; however they are more alike than...

...Batman Arkham Knight – Red Hood DLC Joins the Party Let's face it, despite a lot of effort on their part, GameStop haven't been able to deliver a punch with their Batman Arkham Knight. The game, which was much anticipated right around the hype of the next Batman and Superman movie, could have been a show stopper, but it wasn't. Now, GameStop is doing all it takes to revive flagging interest in the franchise, by introducing interesting downloadable content. Starting with Red Hood, another notorious vigilante, the upcoming lineup of DLC for the game should definitely create some ripples. The Importance of DLC GameStop, after a lot of speculation, has finally confirmed the availability of Batman Arkham Knight's Red Hood DLC. The announcement was made on 22 July, along with a highly pixelated graphic on their Twitter feed. From the graphic, one can make out the red capped vigilante hero springing into action. This new development is not only interesting because of the addition of a new superhero to the game, but also because of the intrigue it adds to the story. With Red Hood joining in the action, GameStop may be dropping in a hint at the real identity of the Arkham Knight, who has so far remained shrouded in mystery. Red Hood Though a vigilante, Red Hood is the antithesis of all that Batman signifies. He is murderous hero, who is ruthless in his quest for justice. Unlike Batman, who goes after the bad guys and leaves the innocent alone, Red Hood does not care about...

...crusader for justice, and defender of Gotham City. Now that sounds like a real superhero and someone to look up to. Playboy, Spare Parts Man, alcoholic; does that sound like someone youʼd call a hero? Batman and Iron Man are very different kinds of heroes, but the men behind the masks seem to be very similar on the surface. While Batman has a very strict moral code and refrains from killing anyone when he can, Iron Man has no qualms about killing. Both Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark are billionaires, both seem to be good with the ladies, and both are extremely intelligent. Neither have any real “super-powers,” but both used their intellect to make themselves into heroes. Bruce Wayne outside of his suit could hold his own in a fight with his martial arts background. Tony Stark, on the other hand, seems to have no desire to better himself in hand-to-hand combat. As a child, Bruce witnessed his parents being murdered and swore to keep the city safe. While being held hostage by a group of terrorists, Tony makes the Iron Man suit purely to save himself. After these life changing experiences, both take to the vigilante life but for different reasons: Bruce to protect citizens so that no one else would have to feel the pain he felt, and Tony for the recognition and fame. Letʼs talk about motivation. Batman began because a little boy was left devastated and traumatized. Bruce Wayne was orphaned as at the age of eight after seeing his parents gunned down by a mugger. That same night, Bruce swore...

...emotional impact with me was the 2008 film, Batman – The Dark Knight. The movie shows the dangerous impact of criminals in Gotham city and how to deal with it. Batman, Bruce Wayne was played by (Christian Bale). Bruce with out the batman suit is a rich and carless guy who has one goal in life “Girls”. However, the real Batman is very controversy to this, he acts as an uncovered honor hero who wants to protect Gotham city from criminals, especially the Joker (Heath Ledger). The joker has nothing important in his life. Everything is worthless he killed for only one purpose, fun. The joker started in the movie by interrupt a group of criminals who are scared by the new Gotham’s hero, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) the district attorney who is aiming to be the next governor, and if he reduces the amount of crimes in Gotham city he may have a better chance to be the next governor. However, after an incident made by the Joker Harvey’s face was burned, also his mind too was burned with criminal thoughts. The Batman and lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) decided to cover Harvey’s last attempts as a criminal and let him die with an honor. In addition, Harvey and Bruce both have some emotion to Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal). The movie shows great fights between the two main characters Batman and The Joker. Batman wanted the most to arrest the Joker and brings him to the justice. However, the only concern for The Joker was to know who the real Batman is. “The only sensible way to live in this...

...Batman’s Civil Disobedience in Gotham city Hugo A. Sanchez English 102 10/24/14 Abstract In this paper, I argue that the film and comic Batman the Dark Knight Returns, can be compared to Henry David Thoreau’s Civil Disobedience in the way that Batman disobeys the law by returning back to Gotham city and fighting crime. I also show that Batman displays civil disobedience when he does his best to protect Gotham city and fight the government, promising to never give up. I show that, much like Thoreau, Batman is solitary and engages in his own war by himself against the police department, criminals, and army. Just as Thoreau willingly goes to jail for his beliefs about the Mexican War, Batman fights for what he believes to be right, not only for him, but for the people of Gotham city. Batman’s Civil Disobedience in Gotham City When corruption arises, there is always a person who questions the injustice. Acts of civil disobedience are shown in modern society today, whether in society or through the media. Many individuals who are portrayed as heroes are people who break the law and fight for the power and authority that the citizens have lost due to their rights being taken away. A person must be able to accept the outcomes and consequences of their own actions when they disobey. Being civilly disobedient is not only about breaking a law. The actions of these individuals spread ideas. In the end, the outcome of the struggle may involve a change in a law like the way Cesar...

...“The Dark Knight” is a film based on DC comic book character Batman and his fight to protect his home, Gotham City, from the antagonist, the Joker. Director Chris Nolan provides the viewer with not only an action film, but also a thought-provoking masterpiece. The film focuses on the thin line between sanity (Batman) and madness (Joker) and how anyone can easily turn from good to evil, the example being Harvey Dent becoming Two-Face in such a short time. The film deconstructs previous ideas of the “hero” by portraying Batman not as a hero, but as an “anti-hero”. He appears to be the hero, but possesses no superpowers and also causes mayhem in his city, much like a villain would. The Joker represents postmodernism because he threatens our “givens” (Instead of soldiers who are allowed to die, threaten the mayor and hospitals). He makes people question everything, creating chaos. The Joker also represents post-modern beliefs because he challenges our idea of the conventional villain, who is supposed to represent pure evil, by comparing himself to the hero, Batman, using such examples as how they are both freaks to society and how they were both created by one bad day. The most important instance of post-modern values is the Jokers entire character. He believes the average man lives with a bloated sense of humanity’s importance and a frail and useless notion of order and sanity. He sees human existence as mad, random, and pointless and the world as a psychotic carnival of animals...

...Carl Jung has famous theory which is “Collective Unconscious”. It is existing in the depths of a person’s unconscious mind, and it is inborn universal unconscious. From his theory, he said that human being also has “archetype” which is meaning for “image pattern”. People have archetype, and it is using for our common understanding between people. For example, when we see a clay figure embracing a plump body shape woman, we say that it looks like mother, because we are imaging for “Mother’s Archetype”, on the other hand, when we image of a wise man who teaches strictly, you might be imaging about father. In this case we are based on “Father’s Archetype”. How about movie characters? I think that the most popular kinds of archetype of character...
