...As a women I, have experienced the battle of self-hate, which has been very influential to my life in both a positive and negative aspect. From the time I was only fourteen years old, I have faced the battle of overcoming the self-hatred I developed amongst my inner self. The most commonly faced issue found amongst many women throughout the world is the issue of body weight. For many years, I myself struggled with facing that terrifying, horrific number on the scale. No matter how many times it has been stated that the number on the scale “does not define a person”, it didn’t change my own outlook. Turning to extreme measures to decrease my body weight seemed like the only solution. Although little did I realize, that not only would these extreme measures also come along with intense mood changes, but that it would affect my body both physically and mentally. The first idea that approached my mind was “just don’t eat, you will drop such a significant amount of weight that way, without even making any effort”; newsflash, that is the ABSOLUTE worst solution to turn to. As a cause of not eating, I happened to drop about 20-30 pounds within a time span of only two months, without even attempting to. Although, not only did it cause extreme mood changes (severe episodes of depression and anxiety), but it also caused my mind to inflict self-harm upon my own body. Mentally, I was okay with the weight that I had finally reached, but physically my body was unhealthy (even if I...

To shower is to fight tears, pain, and fears. Washing requires a gingerly touch. A wash cloth is my instrument of choice; it like the neurosurgeon’s scalpel must be yielded skillfully. A shower cleans but shouldn’t hurt. Hidradenitis begs to differ. Forget ticking hands. Let the wash cloth heal: take away dried pus and skin remnants. Finish surgery and mark the close of the day’s first battle, but not the last....

...Bayeux Taprety Dear Family; It is with great pride to let you know that I have survived the Battle of Hastings. We were victorious but it was not an easy venture. We had a meeting about how the trip would be before leaving Normandy. They said that it would only be about 5 hours to get there, but turns out that it took us over 12 hours to reach England. We didn’t think when rushing to make these boats that it would be such a long trip. If we had known we would have built them so they were more stable. I saw Tim bend over on the side of his boat looking very ill. I think he may of got sick from something when smiting the weapons, but it could have just been from the water. He was so ready to fight he put on his uniform as soon as we got them. I on the other hand, decided to keep mine off until we got closer. I did not want to because the chainmail was so heavy and wanted to conserve my strength. The Sun was beaming off the water; it was too hot to have it on. I do wish I was on the Mora Ship. The ship is so elegant and a masterpiece that it is just a honor to be in a fleet with it. The ship has a Dragon figure on the prow and screams war. All the men on the boat knew this was not going to be an easy fight. The thing was we all understood what was right. King Harold stole the crown from King Duke. Harold and his lies will not be taken lightly. The cowardly Harold forgets that there were witnesses, like me. I heard him King Edward tell the room that William will be King...

...Metacomet told us to meet. The warriors I went into battle with were all gone. Some had already left for the creek, but many were dead. Ducking under branches and hurdlings rocks, I ran to the creek with the woman pounding on my back screaming. As I was running along the creek side the woman kept screaming to let her go. When i was young I had been taught English so I spoke to her saying,” We will not hurt you. Stay calm.” This did not help as she seemed to scream ever louder. Running quickly I had finally arrived at the site where we are to regroup. Many other warriors...

...erase all of it. These qualities- pride, honor and respect- can be found in Homer's Iliad. The greatest example of loyalty in the Iliad is Achilles coming back to avenge his friend, Patroclus. Achilles swore he would never come back; never fight again for the people who spurned him. He even called for the gods to bring misfortune to the Greeks. Then the Trojans killed his friend. “Athena will kill you with my spear in just a moment. Now you will pay with at a stroke for all my comrades’ grief, all you killed in the fury of your shield.” (Homer 212-214) His grudges and hatred were gone, and his loyalty to his friend brought him back to the battle to avenge him. Another example of this...

...The Battle of Ants By Henry David Thoreau You only need sit still long enough in some attractive spot in the woods that all its inhabitants may exhibit themselves to you by turns. I was witness to events of a less peaceful character. One day when I went out to my wood-pile, or rather my pile of stumps, I observed two large ants, the one red, the other much larger, nearly half an inch long, and black, fiercely contending with one another. Having once got hold they never let go, but struggled and wrestled and rolled on the chips incessantly. Looking farther, I was surprised to find that the chips were covered with such combatants, that it was not a duellum, but a bellum, a war between two races of ants, the red always pitted against the black, and frequently two red ones to one black. The legions of these Myrmidons covered all the hills and vales in my wood-yard, and the ground was already strewn with the dead and dying, both red and black. It was the only battle which I have ever witnessed, the only battle-field I ever trod while the battle was raging; internecine war; the red republicans on the one hand, and the black imperialists on the other. On every side they were engaged in deadly combat, yet without any noise that I could hear, and human soldiers never fought so resolutely. I watched a couple that were fast locked in each other's embraces, in a little sunny valley amid the chips, now at noonday prepared to fight till the sun went down, or life went out....

...My odyssey of depression? It seems as though depression is that clingy friend that won’t leave you. Depression is part of my me. He is tough to discuss, he is hard to understand and even harder to find and tougher to get rid of. My therapist always asks me to explain to him what bothering me ,because how do you explain what's going on in your head to someone else even a person who knows how to treat it. I don’t know why I have depression, is it because I am adopted. Is it group of people I hang around , or is it just my genetic makeup. Most people don’t know I have a mental illness. He usually comes out whenever he wants without letting me know. I was diagnosed with depression when I was 15 years old. At first I didn’t know it was depression, I thought it was my body changing from boy to man hood. It first showed glimpse of its capability. One day I was just fine at beginning of the period of class. Than after lunch I felt as though somebody had put a mask on me and I became that mask. As months past my...

...can’t cover six years of global warfare in fifteen pages of text. Let’s see...I’m more interested in the War in Europe than in the Pacific, so that narrows that down some, but I need something tighter. I like airplanes, so something about the air war would be interesting, and there was this documentary on the History Channel about the Battle of Britain last month...but even the Battle of Britain is too big for twelve pages. Right, have to narrow it down some more here...do a little preliminary research and reading. Ah, here it is: the German Air Force started out trying to destroy the Royal Air Force by bombing RAF airfields, but then switched to targeting British cities. This decision cost them the battle, because it let the RAF rebuild its fighter strength and shoot down enough German bombers to force the Germans to call off the offensive. Wait a minute. That would just be a report. Got it! WHY did the Germans decide to change targets? There’s a thesis. And so you would write your paper on “Why did the Germans decide to change targets during the Battle of Britain and what effect did this decision have on the outcome of the battle?” II. Writing an Abstract: Once you have a topic and a thesis, you need to work that question into a...

...The Battle of Hastings Angelina Minton Professor Chris Sisson – World Culture I June 2, 2013 Abstract The purpose of this paper is to imagine myself as a figure in the Bayeux Tapestry and to write a first- person account in a letter home describing this historical event. In this paper I have described the event in detail and have explained why it was justified for us to raise arms in battle. To My Loving Mother Herleva, Let me start by saying I miss and love you and the family. Things have been very complicated since King Edward died without naming an heir to his throne. Edward's immediate predecessor was to be Harold of Wessex, a wealthy and influential English noble, who was chosen to be king by the Witenagemot of England. However, Harold was challenged by William who demanded that he had been promised the throne by King Edward and that Harold had confirmed this agreement. Harald III of Norway also disputed the succession. His right to the throne was founded on an arrangement between his predecessor Magnus I of Norway, and the earlier King of England Harthacanute, whereby if either died without heirs, the other would inherit both England and Norway. (Wilson, 1985) To add to this confusion Williams and Harald III both began assembling troops and ships for battle. Williams and I spent months preparing our army for battle and we waited for the right time to attack so that William could claim what was rightfully his. Mother you should have seen it...

...liked. But that was another time and story in my life I care to put behind me. So, it has been expressed to me in the past that the ending to the first series was a little weak and I agree. The whole Tigerstar getting batted aside by some little wiener cat from Twolegplace rather than getting his ASS handed to him by Firestar was kind of lame in their eyes. Neither one liked it when a new “Bad Guy” shows up right at the last second and tries to take the place of a long standing relationship with a hated arch enemy, like you’re supposed to be afraid of this guy all of the sudden. Nope. The original Warriors series, released from 2003 to 2004, consists of six books, Into the Fire: Fire and Ice: Forest of Secrets: Rising Storm: A Dangerous Path and The Darkest Hour. Since The Darkest Hour is the last book I read in Iraq, I had to go to the library on Camp Pendleton to look over the book one more time before I started this. The top section in Italic is straight from the final battle in the 6th book, The Darkest Hour, which is my starting point for what you will read below. Anyway, not a great bit of writing on my part, especially the abrupt ending, but according to both my daughter’s, they thought it was a good attempt & agreed that if the story ended the way I put it, the next series would be worlds apart. Warriors – The Darkest Hour, Original Last Battle Beginning. "This is Tigerstar's history...

...return their desire by entering the war with the Greeks for Agamemnon and to return the body of Hector for Priam. Both Kings’ embassies were convincing, but only Priam succeeds to persuade Achilles to return Hector back. Agamemnon’s embassy to convince Achilles to return to the war alongside of the Greeks Army failed even when his fellow Greek and countrymen’s morale is slowly decreasing due to his leave and a plague that had struck their camp. Agamemnon failed to convince Achilles because in the beginning of Iliad, nine years after the beginning of the war, they had won a battle against the Trojans and had ransacked a Trojan town where the battle took place. In the book, Agamemnon, the chief commander of the Greek army had taken a woman Chryseis as a price of victory over the battle. On the other hand, Achillies, a fierce important warrior of the Greeks took Briseis as his price. What they later found out was that Chryseis, daughter of Chryses; a priest who serves the god Apollo. Chryses pleaded to Agamemnon to return his daughter back to her, but Agamemnon refuse to give back his prize, therefore leading Chryses to pray to Apollo to punish the Greek army with a plague. Agamemnon will have to send his prize Chryseis back to her father in order to lift the plague only if he could take Achillies’ prize Briseis. This move that Agamemnon took left rage in Achilles and threatens to leave the battle with his soldiers, the Myrmidons. Agamemnon also was infuriated and threatens back that...

...The Three Battles of Beowulf’s The three battles in the Epic Poem of Beowulf show the brutality and shear power of the great warrior Beowulf. The battles are individually significant but are also equally connected in many ways. The arrival of Beowulf from his home tribe of the Geats in the tribe of the Danes is due to a cry for help from the king of the Danes, Hrothgar. This great king has done everything in his power to defeat the beast named Grendel who ravages there mead hall at night. The second battle is between Beowulf and Grendel’s bloodthirsty mother who is out for revenge. The epic poem of Beowulf ends with the final battle between Beowulf and the Dragon who lives in the remains of a forgotten tribe. These battles will show the attributes of courage, sacrifice, leadership and honor displayed through Beowulf’s actions. The first battle takes place between a beast named Grendel and Beowulf in a quick but gruesome battle in the mead hall. The mead hall is the central meeting places of tribes during this time period. The mead hall that this battle takes place in, the mead hall of the tribe of the Danes, is the greatest mead hall of the time. Named Heorot, it was grander and more magnificent than any other. It is a sacred place to the tribe of the Danes, a place of celebration and sanctuary. Grendel made it a place of death and with the strength of killing 30 men, Grendel is a force of destruction. The king of the Danes, the Great King Hrothgar, has tried to defeat...

...students can be taught the correct material so that they can be educated and use their knowledge as power. I went to school in Washington state, and when we got to a certain age we age-appropriate sexual education. A permission slip was signed by my mother, and at approximately 12 years old, boys and girls were separated with familiar teachers and classmates of the same gender and taught about how our bodies were changing. Females learned about menstrual cycles, pads and “why tampons really do fit” while the males learned about why they were getting hair in places they didn’t before, and why their bodies were changing in different ways as well. I was among classmates who were my friends and teachers who I trusted and we were allowed to ask questions like “Does it hurt?” and “Does my brother know about this?” Samples were given out for us to see, feel and understand and alleviated the possibility of the wrong information getting in to our sponges of brains elsewhere. My mom attempted to teach me about my menstrual cycle. She drew pictures of ovaries, fallopian tubes and a uterus. She was open about pads and tampons, and the changes my body was going to make, and I even felt that I could ask her questions but I knew a lot of kids in my class who didn’t have a Mom like mine or a Mom at all. There are more than just the basics to have been...
