...known to practice Zen Buddhism. Zen Buddhism is the practice of calming the mind and accepting all things good or bad in life by using zen meditation (Bairan, 2006). Zen meditation aided the Samurai to focus completely on the present, eliminate all thoughts of life and death, and to be one with the sword (Kendo). Samurais live very peaceful lives with strict discipline of learning to be one with their sword (Kendo). They practice amongst each other every day to ensure that they are still one with their sword, along with meditating daily to ensure calmness. Samurai warriors are excellent marksman who use the “no mind” theory during battle. The “no mind” theory comes from zen meditation. The warriors meditate on a daily basis to help clear there minds and not focus on anything, but the breath. The breath is the essential part of meditation as when your mind starts to drift and focus on something else, you can calmly bring your mind back to the present and focus on the breath. The Samurai have been very successful in their battles due to not thinking about anything except the task at hand. The ultimate goal of the Samurai is to take the life of the enemy and not think of the consequences as this is the enemy or the Samurai's destiny to die or survive. Also eliminating all thoughts of life and death also help focus on the present task at hand. Samurai warriors are vigorously taught to have a “no mind” theory to have only awareness of the task at hand; eliminating the enemy. The...

...exercise and physical strengthening. For others maybe a healthier diet is in need. To me a behavior plan is something that helps organize your life or puts light on issues that need to become more balanced. Ultimately a balanced life is the goal of our behavior plans. My Behavior plan is to meditate and get back to doing the one thing that I do best and that is to write. The following paragraphs are part of a daily/weekly ritual I like to call “Words of Wisdom.” They are my thoughts on various aspects of life. These thoughts are brought to me through meditation and some research. The goal of these, “Words of Wisdom” is to focus on areas of unbalance in my life and plan my approach to getting them in balance. The following is my approach and thoughts on self confidence Believing in one’s self is a structured characteristic. Self confidence isn’t obtained easily this is because there are several aspects of one’s life that must be balanced in order for self confidence to be obtained. One can’t just get confidence it is an earned characteristic and must be tried and tested. High ego or cockiness can easily be mistaken for confidence because most people associate lack of fear with being confident. However confidence is an understanding of who you are and realizing that with hard work, sound planning, and self sacrifice you can accomplish your goals. Confidence also is the acceptance of failure and realizing that not every goal is achieved the first time. You may need to re-analyze...

...you’ve been wondering where I’ve been and have seen the embroidery of The Bayeux Tapestry. Surprisingly, I was an actual figure in this work of art and would like to express to you in detail the brief events that took place, my feelings, and elements of experience, and personal satisfaction of involvement. Hopefully this letter will provide to you a better understanding of what I endured and why. While working in the army of William, Duke of Normandy, I found that William laid claim to the English throne, in which Harold Godwinson took position (Invasion of England 1066, 1997, para. 2). It seems that Harold had a formal relationship with King Edward as his esteemed advisor (Invasion of England 1066, 1997, para. 2). Confusion arose in my mind wondering who the rightful heir of England’s throne is. Since I did not want to choose sides, and wanted to consider the facts, I found out that Harold’s claim to the throne was made stronger when King Edward supposedly uttered to Harold on his deathbed: “Into Harold’s hands I commit my kingdom” (Invasion of England 1066, 1997, para. 2). Whereas, William justified his claim by blood relationship with Edward, although distant cousins (Invasion of England 1066, 1997, para 2). What angered William the most was Harold’s swearing on the relics of a martyred saint that he would support his right to the throne and did not (Invasion of England 1066, 1997, para. 3). Deception filled William’s thoughts of Harold and I felt this will soon create...

... Many find going to support groups helpful to accept the fact they have or lost someone to cancer. The awareness does show favoritism toward to certain cancers rather than all. It covers the ones with higher rates and more known killers. Doing your own research helps in many ways; if there are areas you don’t understand you can look to see if you can understand better before you ask your doctor questions. Doing research on different stages and about the cancer itself makes it easier to understand what you’re going or will be going through. Whenever you get a chance always ask your doctor questions. If you are the family, you also may find the need to ask the doctor question to put your own mind at ease. Become aware of all of treatments that may interest you than ask your doctor if that treatment could be better. Just because you went through something like a loved one or friend does not mean you know what it’s like. Every person is different and so is their body. You wouldn’t fully understand what the person is going through. A lot of people say “I understand what you’re going through.” No one really totally understands. Every situation is different for every person. There are so many questions that run through our minds. We all just want answers even if it’s hard...

...A Mind After War Vietnam was a tragic and brutal war. Many soldiers lost their lives and the war was lost in that the Vietcong drove out the United States. War can do many things to the minds of soldiers. Some believe that war is important because it can bring peace. This however can be at the loss of the sanity and minds of the soldiers at war. Frederick Downs retells his personal experience in “The Killing Zone,” and how a mind can be transformed through war and pressure. These effects can cause many to lose their mind and who they are as a person. Downs gives a direct reflection of his personal experience and how he physically, but more importantly mentally changed. Downs entered into battle at the age of 23. He was states that he was mentally confident and physically ready for the battle he was about to face. (pg. 15) Going in he thought he was prepared and many soldiers receive training and think they are prepared for everything out there. When one goes into battle thinking they are ready it is great for moral and spirit among the company. Downs was fresh out of Officer Candidacy School. He was cream of the crop and ready for action. As soon as he steps foot in Vietnam on September 1967 he begins to have doubt. “Everything was lit up. I wondered when the mortars would start dropping in” (pg. 16) On his first night he is confused about the procedures that the Americans use at night and makes him already scared of what is to come. Already Downs is living in fear and...

...promotion, distribution, packaging, and competition). Positioning is also defined as the way by which the marketers attempt to create a distinct impression in the customer's mind. Positioning is a concept in marketing which was first introduced by Jack Trout ( "Industrial Marketing" Magazine- June/1969) and then popularized by Al Ries and Jack Trout in their bestseller book "Positioning - The Battle for Your Mind." (McGraw-Hill 1981) This differs slightly from the context in which the term was first published in 1969 by Jack Trout in the paper "Positioning" is a game people play in today’s me-too market place" in the publication Industrial Marketing, in which the case is made that the typical consumer is overwhelmed with unwanted advertising, and has a natural tendency to discard all information that does not immediately find a comfortable (and empty) slot in the consumers mind. It was then expanded into their ground-breaking first book, "Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind," in which they define Positioning as "an organized system for finding a window in the mind. It is based on the concept that communication can only take place at the right time and under the right circumstances" (p. 19 of 2001 paperback edition). What most will agree on is that Positioning is something (perception) that happens in the minds of the target market. It is the aggregate perception the market has of a particular company, product or service in relation to their perceptions of the competitors in the...
