The first step that the BCBA would take would be to gather baseline data on the student gathering information on the frequency of target behavior. This will help the BCBA know how many times the student is engaging in the target behavior prior to implementing the intervention. Once significant data is collected over several days or weeks, the next phase (B) would be introduced. Phase B would be the intervention phase. At this time the BCBA would implement an intervention with the goal of decreasing the frequency of behaviors. In this case the intervention for the student was using a token economy in order to decrease the target behaviors.

The client was given demands and tasks which lead to self-injurious behaviors because the client did not want to complete any of the activities that were presented to him. While implementing the two interventions which consisted of giving the client positive reinforcement by giving the client an edible immediately each time the client followed a direction or completed a task. The other intervention consisted of giving the client a three minute break for every ten minutes he was able to work and complete tasks and demands. For the break the client is able to choose and activity of his choice to engage in. Intervention data was collected over fifteen days. The intervention data shows which intervention was the most effective in decreasing the target behavior. The interventions may also be paired together using the edible reinforcement and receiving a three minute break after being on task and not demonstrating self-injurious behaviors every ten minutes simultaneously to see if using the interventions together also impacts the frequency of the target behavior the client displays. Depending on the results of the data that was collected during the intervention phases will decide which intervention is the most effective and the one that will allow for the client to become more
