The Power of Guns in A Long Way Gone In A Long Way Gone written by Ishmeal Beah it can be seen that guns give people power. The initial encounter Beah has with guns shows the power a person with a gun has “unable to speak, his lips trembled but he couldn’t get out a word” (33). This quote demonstrates the confusion and fear that a gun can cause which causes people to submit in fear of death. The fear instilled in people caused by guns is also showed when Beah writes “ the soldiers, who somehow anticipated the attack and knew they were outnumbered, left town before the rebels came” (23-24).
