Entrepreneurs Are Born and Not Made?

...Entrepreneurs are born and not made An entrepreneur is ‘a person who has possession of a new enterprise, venture or idea and assumes significant accountability for the inherent risks and the outcome.’ So are entrepreneurs born? Or made? There have been many debates from businessmen to academics alike on whether entrepreneurs are born or made, but is it as straight forward as that? In this essay I will evaluate arguments both for and against this statement and conclude it with my own personal observation. The argument for this statement that entrepreneurs are born is a scientific one, with the questions being are there specific entrepreneurial genes and/or chromosomes. Some of the characteristics credited to entrepreneurs include extroversion, risk taker, persistence, independent, innovative, opportunistic and the need for achievement. These skills are the reason many believe they are from nature as they go above and beyond those of an ordinary office manager. Many believe that these are skills are innate in a person, that they are born with them and they are skills and characteristics that cannot be taught. (Scott Shane, wall street journal) ‘40 percent of the variation in the tendency to be an entrepreneur is inherited.’ Some people say that not anyone can become an entrepreneur; they have to have the right innate qualities from birth alongside the external influences for their talents to be recognized in business. “If the environment is not conducive then entrepreneurial talent...

Assignment Entrepreneurship

...------------------------------------------------- Myth 5: Entrepreneurs Must Fit the "Profile" Entrepreneurs and Entrepreneurship: An Introduction It is not easy to give a particular answer to the question: Why do people want to start and run independent businesses? Different answers may come from different people. Some people may start a business just because they love independence and hate to tolerate bossing in the jobs. Some may not have the capability and qualification to do a job and as job is not available to them, they go for independent businesses in order to survive. Some may have some special skills and love challenges to run an independent business. Several motivational factors like need for affiliation, need for power and need for achievement (McClelland, 1961) are also responsible for going for an independent business. Murthy, et al (1986) found that entrepreneurs are motivated to start a business because of the factors like ambitious factors, compelling factors and facilitating factors. Whatever may be the reason, it can be said that in most of the times of the history of human civilization, there were entrepreneurs who did independent businesses and this trend of history still continues. For the last few decades in all over the world, entrepreneurs are regarded as value adding people to the society. Holt (1992) says, “The term entrepreneur may be properly applied to those who incubate new ideas, start enterprises based on those ideas, and provide added value...

Entrepreneur

...Entrepreneurs are born. Entrepreneurs are actually born. People are born with many inherent qualities, if they concentrate on that qualities then only that particular qualities would sharpen. Some qualities we would get from education & experience. Even if we concentrate on those particular qualities we would grow some level, but surely not grow to the entrepreneurship level. Though some, may be a few people who have been associated with people from the entrepreneurs level from long span of time, would learn & grow to that level. Learning is also an art with some people born with it.  They are indeed born. Like in other areas like sports, technology etc. there are certain inherent skills needed to be ingrained in a person for him/her to succeed in their chosen field. If it was easy to acquire skills and become an entrepreneur the whole world would have turned to that and we wouldn’t have a recession or other such problems. To be an entrepreneur, one needs to have a certain amount of killer instinct and risk taking ability. A man went into a great city and asked an old man, where are these leaders born? The old man replied no leaders are born here only babies are born.  BORN - According to me, attitude is the most important personal characteristic, and one that cannot be trained. The attitude of the entrepreneur affects the early success of the venture; the same attitude needs to be present in the firm’s employees to continue the entrepreneurial energy that creates competitive...

Myth 1: Entrepreneurs are doers, not thinkers Although people see entrepreneurs as someone who dare to do something without considering the risk, but actually entrepreneurs do think before they take action or make decision. Entrepreneurs usually spend time to think of the new invention, new market from the daily problems or experience. Once they discovered there is opportunity to start the business to serve the need, they actually produce clear and complete business plan before they involve in the business. The Concept of Entrepreneurship

...is a Business Entrepreneur can be defined in two ways: a) an owner or manager of a business enterprise who makes money through risk and initiative. b) One who undertakes innovations, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic goods. Are people born entrepreneurs or are they trained to be entrepreneurs? Asking such a question if people are born or trained to be entrepreneurs is a question that makes no sense. It would be like asking if people are born employees or trained to become employees. People are trainable. They can be trained to be either employees or entrepreneurs. The reason there are more employees than entrepreneurs is simply that our schools train young people to become employees. That is why so many parents urge their children to go to school in order to get good jobs. I have yet to come across a parent who says, “Go to school to become an entrepreneur.” The difference between an employee and an entrepreneur is that employees look for jobs after the business is built. An entrepreneur’s work begins before there is a business. Therefore, a successful business is created before there is a business. An entrepreneur is an owner or manager of a business enterprise who makes money through risk and initiative. Entrepreneurs become leaders because they perceive opportunities available and are well-positioned to take advantage of them. Most entrepreneurs share these common traits. Successful entrepreneurs create smart goals...

Our class has been given the chance to know if we truly have the potentials of becoming a successful entrepreneur or what part of ourselves, our personalities, we have to improve to become a successful entrepreneur through a self-assessment sheet in which we were able to assess ourselves if we have the capacity to become an entrepreneur one day. Entrepreneurs Are Made Not Born

...Entrepreneurs are made not born /essay/ This is a very old question with a lot of pros and cons, with a lot of defenders and opponents. Are your inner qualities everything that you need in life in order to success? I think that it is not enough. Being honest I believe that qualities like creativity, passion and ingenuity, one of the most important entrepreneurial characteristics, are partly inborn but without developing your inhesions every single day you would not be a successful entrepreneur. It reminds me of Jeff Bezos graduation speech at Princeton University -“Would you be proud of your gifts”. The idea is that you need to improve yourself since you are child. In addition I would like to say that I have never seen baby entrepreneur, so probably your inborn qualities are not enough. To believe that everything you need in life is born qualities is wrong. If you are satisfied with your inborn qualities and believe in this theory you won’t do anything in order to improve yourself and that would be detrimental. Are entrepreneurs just a special bread or they become this way through education? It is a myth that someone is a born entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs can be thought and more important-they should be. How important is a diploma for your future entrepreneurial success? I think a lot. An education in a prestigious college or university is necessary to gain you skills and knowledge that would be very necessary in your future business life. I believe that basic knowledge of...
