...As a computer science student, I understand the importance of being able to think logically. Also, I hope to achieve proper communication skills and develop an independent sense of judgment and people skills. Working as a resident assistant will help me improve my problem solving skills as it involves constantly taking queries from other students, analyzing the best possible solution and communicating this to respective officials. Something valuable that I hope to achieve through being Resident Assistant is the opportunity to meet with new students from different backgrounds and hearing their stories. With the knowledge and lessons I learn from this, I hope to build new relationships with new and amazing students, and also hope to improve the...

...Nursing Assistant Have you ever asked the question who takes care of my grandparents or parents while they’re in a nursing home or hospital? Do you have an interest in making someone’s life easier by helping them with simple life tasks? If you have ever been interested in helping someone, then becoming a nursing assistant is the right job for you. The definition of a nursing assistant is “A person who has completed a brief health care training program and who provides support services for RNs and LPNs. Also known as an orderly or, when certified by a state agency, a certified nurse aide (CNA).” In this essay I will explain what the definition of a nursing assistant is to me. I will also include the job description of a nursing assistant, and why they are the eyes and ears for nurses. To begin with, a nursing assistant in my definition is a person that does daily cares on a patient/resident according to their care plan. The job description of a nursing assistant is as follows; “Assists with patient's assessment and care planning, in meeting nutrition and elimination needs, assists patients with mobility, makes sure patient comfortable and helps with anxiety relief, promotes patient safety and environmental cleanliness, assist with unit management and efficiency.” To sum the job description into an easier definition, nursing assistants assist with all life activities that a resident can’t do on their own. Nursing assistants also give love and support to their residents. Most...

...I am interested in becoming a Resident Assistant because one of the first memories I have of moving into College Hall North, is how friendly all the RA`s were and how nice they were to me and how welcomed they made me feel. I can without doubt say that she not only reassured me and made me feel a lot calmer about being so far away from home but she reassured my parents and made them feel a lot better. That was the day I knew I wanted to be a Resident Assistance, I wanted to be able to relieve as much nervousness and stress about coming to college as possible and give my residents someone they can come to about anything at any time of day, without thinking they will be judged, the same way my Resident Assistance did for me. I like to be an encourager to people and help them to be the best they can be, as a Resident’s Assistant I feel like a big part of my job would be doing just that. Although I know that the job will get stressful at times I am very dedicated to people and I truly enjoy being able to positively...

...a butt-wiper", many people believe that being a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is just taking care of old people and changing them constantly but that is not the case. Future nurses all should go through the lowest level of nursing types in order to achieve where they are today. Certified Nursing Assistants are in high demands in the health care, for areas such as the nursing home. Nursing aides should be compassionate at their job, tolerant and have good communication skills; it is important for aides to express empathy to those that are sick or with limited abilities that are needed for daily care, maintenance of environment in stressful situations and be effectively concern about their patients' health (Nursing Aide 2017). Working as a nursing aide will give you experience that a nurse might not get, it is because nursing aides communicate and interact with the patients more. Besides the fact that CNAs jobs are primarily in nursing homes, more comes out from it. Think of nursing homes and assisted living as day care that you take your kids into. The CNAs are there to help them when they are in need, in pain, scared, and when they're happy. We are the ones that wake them up at the crack of dawn to start their day and help them brush their teeth before going to bed. There are times when you will see LPN (Licensed Practical...

...Short Answer 5.1 Good Day vs Bad Day Breckinridge School of Nursing Barbara Walker Abstract Anyone working as a nursing assistant has chosen a very challenging path. Poor compensation, workplace politics, short staffing, conflict between coworkers, irate and difficult residents, miscommunication, heavy lifting and the loss of those for whom we care all make for a tough work environment. I definitely have locked myself in the linen closet to get myself together moments. So, why do I keep coming back? Why do I stay? First of all, I embrace the challenge. I thrive on it. In my life, it is a rare and beautiful thing to be able to bring order to chaos rather than the other way around. I work at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital and I have to say, the patients inspire me every day. We have a variety of patients; with cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, dementia, brain and spinal cord injuries and just knee or hip replacements that still laugh and love and find joy in nothing short of amazing. It’s such an incredible gift to be a part of their lives…to walk them through the tough days and celebrate with them during their triumphs. They have shown me the uselessness of the word impossible. They all touch my heart, and I hope I touch their heart too. Good Day vs Bad Day I have to say that I’m proud of the work that I do. Nursing assistants come in all shapes and sizes. We are both male and female. Our Physical appearances are different, but we all have bodies...

...Lavelury Powell, RN. The interview took place Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 2:00 pm at her home. The interview is being conducted with agreement from Mrs. Powell with the understanding that it is for educational purposes only for Chamberlain College of Nursing. I performed an audio recording of the interview to assist in accurate documentation but as agreed I will be submitting it in written form. The purpose of the interview is to identify an exceptional nurse who, in my opinion, is making history. The nurse is Mrs. Lavelury Powell. She is my maternal aunt, my mentor, and my hero. Mrs. Powell is a lifelong resident of Wadley, Georgia and has worked in the nursing field for twenty-nine years. She is married with three adult daughters and two grandchildren. She started her career in 1983 as a Certified Nursing Assistant and then furthered her career in 1987 by becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 1993 she returned to Middle Georgia College and obtained an Associate Degree in Nursing. Mrs. Powell has spent her entire career in long-term care, first as a staff nurse and eventually as a Director of Nursing. In 2005 she was diagnosed with ESRD necessitating hemodialysis three times a week. Due to frequent hospitalizations and her declining health, she had to give up her nursing career. Because of her caring spirit, she found another outlet to allow her to continue to give back to the community. She volunteers at Whole Life Ministries as a health educator for local youths in...

Levels of engagement Roles and Responsibilities 2 3 4 4 4 5 5 Residents’ Engagement and Communication Strategy 2009/10 1. Introduction and background information There are over 2000 flats situated in the Barbican Estate, the area surrounding the Barbican Centre. The Estate has two channels already in place which deal with issues on behalf of residents. These are: • The Barbican Association: a committee which represent residents’ views to the freeholder and manager of the Estate, the City of London. There are sub-committees covering specific areas such as planning, communications and security. The Association has 9 elected members and representatives from each block of flats, or ‘house’ • The Residents Consultation Committee. Formed in 2004 its formal remit is to represent the residents in their dealings with their landlord. The RCC leads on any matters that affect residents in their relationship with their landlord. Both committees have members in common, and their aim is to work together in the interests of residents. The Barbican Centre has primarily communicated with representatives from House Groups, although the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Residents’ Association are also invited to meetings and on email lists. Historically we have only heard from other...

...Central Michigan University Seymour Johnson AFB/Global Campus MSA 501-Managing Change with Emotional Intelligence Dr. Bonnie Anderson September 13, 2015 Emotional Skill Assessment Submitted by Tina Williamson Abstract I have questioned myself several times about my leadership style since becoming a supervisor with my current employer. I must admit that I accepted my position without a clue of how to effectively supervise others. I’m learning that becoming a great leader takes time and clearly doesn’t happen overnight, especially if you are not a “born” leader. However, I believe that continuous training and education will improve my leadership skills. This paper will consist of several things to include: four different surveys and tallying up the scores to reflect my degree of emotional intelligence, assessments and scores that identify my strengths and weaknesses, and skills that I could use to improve my emotional intelligence to be an effective leader. I believe that there are different types of leadership styles in the workplace. Some people were assigned to be leaders from their mother’s womb and others require training. The style of a leader depends on three things: beliefs, values and skills. The characteristics of a good leader should consist of honesty, respectfulness, sense of humor, the ability to inspire and encourage, good communication skills, flexibility, confidence and commitment. I participated...

...One late afternoon at the end of October, Jason Mah, assistant residence manager at Cambridge Hall, was sitting at the residence cafeteria waiting for his friend to join him for dinner. His friend, unfortunately, had arrived in the middle of the “rush” period at the cafeteria, and faced a potentially long wait in the cafeteria line. As a student would put it: “It is a common joke around here, if you sit to eat while your friend is entering the cafeteria to get his meal, you will have enough time to finish dinner before he returns.” Mah was aware of the situation and already had started to investigate in order to propose some improvements to the residence management. Mah hoped that some minor adjustments requiring no major investments or disbursements would be sufficient to resolve the situation. CAFÉ D. POWND The “Café D. Pownd” was a newly established cafeteria at the equally new Cambridge Hall residence that had opened in September, at the National Academy of Liberal Arts (NALA). The cafeteria served as a popular eating place for the 450 residents of Cambridge Hall, as well as for approximately 100 residents from Nottingham Hall, another residence located across the street. This cafeteria was open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and was closed weekends and holidays. It offered a wide variety of hot meals, beverages, salads, desserts, snacks and sandwiches. The majority of residents paid for their food purchases with their student cards through an...

...We do not seek to provide a cure, but to ensure that my residents enjoy the last years of their lives safely and comfortably. Working in this type of setting provides me with the ability to adapt to individual needs, and allows me to build long-term relationships with my residents. Additionally, working in this setting for 4 months has enhanced problem-solving and crisis management skills. I often will be in the position where I must respond to emergency situations and make quick decisions on my own. Sometimes several residents may call for help (via E-Call system) when I am pressed for time. My first few such experiences identified my weakness in dealing with crises, I have since learned to assess the situation calmly and efficiently and make sure each resident is safe and comfortable before moving on to the next, while also communicating with other residents of the circumstances so they are not waiting too long. The skills that I have learned have provided me with the foundation for trusting relationships with my residents. If they have confidence in my abilities, I am able to connect more deeply with my residents and to truly have an impact on their...
