CM Kerksick, (August 20, 2006), The effects of protein and amino acid supplementation on performance and training adaptations during ten weeks of resistance training, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16937979, Pgs. 1

Summary A study was taken through a 10 week span to examine the effects of whey protein supplementation on muscular growth, anaerobic capacity, and muscle endurance during resistance training. Three random groups of supplements were assigned during the ten week span. Resistance training was four days a week, so a total of forty days of training. The main core lifts such as bench press and leg press were performed at an 80% max out for one repetition before and after the supplementation. There were significant increases in one rep maxes for bench press and leg press in all groups of supplementation throughout the ten week span. In this study, casein and whey protein was used in two different samples and then was combined for the last examination. The combined casein and whey protein had the greatest effect and showed the greatest results. It showed tremendous increases in fat-free mass after the ten weeks of heavy resistance training. This type of examination gives athletes and trainers a good example on what supplements can do for you when taken properly. If athletes are patient enough and can afford the supplements, they will be able to make significant gains in the weight room and in their all-around performance on the field, in the gym or wherever they prefer.
Critique
One positive thing I liked about the article was that they used three different groups of supplements and stated what they were instead of just using one example.
On another hand, they don’t give the cost of the supplements or how much a person should be taking in on a daily basis.

Nurse Manager Skills Inventory Assessment

...Prior to taking the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory assessment, I thought I was prepared and ready to be a nursing leader for my hospital. However, the inventory assessment threw me in a completely new direction on things that I need to learn, things I have to improve upon, and things that I have to start thinking about before becoming a nurse leader. I plan on having a new positon as soon as I am done with my next class and I graduate, and with the new positon I had been planning on taking an initiative and ownership of various roles and skills which I currently do not think about. I intend on becoming an advocate for my fellow nurses, health care personnel, and patients, and from the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory I learned that I am just not ready to do this as much as I thought. I started going through the financial portion, and realized that I didn’t have the experience or mindset that is required to become a nursing leader. While this doesn’t mean that I cannot learn these skills, I plan on starting to learn them now, and to change my mindset to begging thinking more like a nurse manager in terms of financial elements. I have not thought of things before like recruiting except for the fact that we always need more nurses and we are short staffed. A nursing leader must think in terms of recruitment and retaining nurses at the same time. I know very little when it comes to economic planning or health care costs and accounting for money As well, I realized how little I know...

“We Shape Our Tools, and Thereafter Our Tools Shape Us”

...Progress can be both good and bad, like everything the good is nearly always better than the bad. “Good” in this case it can be defined as “innovation that’s not only sustainable, but also restorative and resilient” (Hollender 2012, p6). Hollender expresses his opinions that there is no such thing as bad nowadays, instead it should be classified as “less bad” meaning the generation of less waste, less CO2, pollute less water and utilize a greater amount of recycled materials (Hollender 2012, p6). He expresses these views on his idea of “less bad” as the world has revolutionized itself to a point where that almost everything innovative that we now do will harm something else in a negative manner. This is evidently proven from the things that have been invented over time. Going back 100 years from now it is evident that changes have been significant everywhere across the world and in nearly every case it is the tools that we have shaped that are now shaping us, this is becoming a problem in many cases. Starting right back when the hammer was invented. It can be proven that the tools that we make definitely have an influence on the way we interact on a day-to-day basis. There is no specific date on when the hammer was first utilized or invented but it can be said that the cavemen used to use rocks to help them hit something with more force. Essentially this is what a hammer is used for nowadays but in a much more technical manner. Back when the cavemen were using the hammer...

Motivation

...dealing with heavy loads of assignments that he/she has to face in order to complete a class to graduate and be successful in the future. For example, a student can set up a success plan such as academic goals to ensure having a certain G.P.A and maintaining it throughout the school year. By doing this he/she has to be motivated to get good grades in assignments, quizzes, and tests. As for me, becoming a better writer means to have my point clear enough so that a reader can comprehend what is written. In order for me to become a better writer motivation is important in order to improve my weaknesses. My main weaknesses in writing are making sure my sentence structure is correct and putting my thoughts together so that they flow. Having motivation to improve will help me look at my sentences and take a step back so that I can make sure they are right. Also, so I can see where my mistakes are being made. It will also help me to do brainstorming exercise when writing papers so that I can make sure my thoughts are executed on paper as well as they are in my head. The first step in becoming a better writer is knowing what needs work and understanding that even our strengths can use some improvement as well. My strengths include good thoughts and understating what I am writing about. My thought process is good when writing and I can easily put together a good essay with good thoughts....

Self Improvement

...two of the most important things that you need to consider if you are thinking of excelling in your life. A majority of the problems in our life arise due to the lack of motivation and great emotional depression. To contribute to self improvement, you can get motivated by changing your mindset altogether. Self-Improvement Many people work toward something in order to improve themselves. This act of aiming toward something in order to achieve it is called setting a goal. Achieving goals usually improves the person who is setting them. Not abandoning the goal teaches the person discipline, and achieving the goal will improve the person as well. During this school year, I would like to improve myself by ameliorating my grades and becoming closer to God. This year, I would like to bring my grades from B’s and C’s to A’s and B’s. In order to achieve this goal, I will pay attention in class instead of talking to my friends. This is important so that I do not miss anything that the teacher says in class. In addition to paying attention in class, I can also begin studying every night and...

Personally Responsible Students

...Personally Responsible Students Katherine Poppell GEN/201 October 27, 2014 David Schemerhorn Personally Responsible Students The phrase “personal responsibility” simply means taking care of ones’ own life in every aspect without succumbing to fears or to the distractions of the outside world. In order to become a master student and achieve the goals a person has set for himself or herself, he or she must first have an internally defined level of personal responsibility. To that end, becoming a master student starts with taking control of ones’ own life. Such control includes becoming fiscally responsible as well as demonstrating emotional maturity. There are two ways to do this, planning and organizing. While some people may find it easy to plan and organize their task, others do not so it may require more work. One has to learn how to be prepared in your studies by setting goals, understanding what your learning style may be, highlighting and underlining your readings and notes; Time management as far as your readings and taking time to understand your studies, and using your critical thinking skills along with communicating your thoughts both verbally and in writing. Goal Setting and Time Management One of the many things we have learned during our introductory course into online school while attending the University of Phoenix is the importance of setting goals, prioritizing them, and the importance of time...

Papa Johns Case Analysis

...Danielle Heyde MGMT 441 Papa John’s Case Papa John’s Inc. Papa John’s has grown exponentially since it was started in 1985, however with management changing hands, and the economy changing there are some issues that lie within the organization. If Papa John’s wants to open 200-300 stores per year they have to do something different. The pizza industry is very mature and becoming saturated so in order to gain a competitive advantage they have to differentiate themselves from others in the industry. Earnings and sales are much slower in industries that are mature than those industries that are emerging. The barriers to entry are very low for the pizza industry, anyone can open up a pizza place which will create a new competitor. Individuals have a lot of choices when it comes to eating out so in order to grow exponentially something needs to set them apart from others since their “better ingredients, better pizza” strategy is no longer holding up. So what can Papa John’s do to set themselves different from everyone else? They can begin by refining their existing product line and expand to different lines. By improving the quality of their existing products and ultimately creating the best pizza possible it is going to take trial and error, ask the consumers what they like/do not like about the pizza. They could begin to expand their lines of service by developing a new chain of restaurants or begin to sell their unique garlic dipping sauce in grocery stores, which would...

Report on Google Glass

...Alexander Klocke Group member: Gul Turgut English C1; WiSe14/15 Instructor: David Martin 03.12.2014 Göttingen Report on Google Glass limitations Introduction Our latest product Google Glass has absolved the beta phase. As a result of that we got a lot of feedback, which will help us to improve our product. The task of our team is to forecast the Google Glass’ potential for longevity. In order to that it was my job to analyze the limitations by itself and even to work the social hurdles out. Over the last weeks we gathered lots of ideas for improvements from our 10.000 “Explorers”. Findings To start with the technological impression, there is to say that the technological level is very low. Countless flaws led to nine updates since the release of the beta version, which means much effort for our customers to keep at the best available technology. Another point is that the software seems to be quite poorly sophisticated. It is neither possible to edit photos nor to upload them to Instagram. The directory includes only 10 contacts while it has very weak capabilities anyway. Besides that there are struggles with the voice control while talking in loud areas what makes our Google Glass useless in such a situation. Furthermore many consumers have complained about the weak battery, which only runs about 2 hours or 45 minutes of recording. Consequently our product is not made for workaday life. In comparison to conventional glasses our product does not have hinges...

Living Standards A2 Level Economics

...in 1971 (a big difference of 47 thousand vehicles). Moreover in the 1970s jobs weren’t at the standard wage as what they are now, a medical practionar in the 1970s earned just over £670 per week which seems like a lot but back then bread and other essentials were also a lot cheaper back then. However in 2006, a medical practionar earns over £1245. That is a huge difference of over just under 50%. This then meant that many peoples standard of living rose and so there appetites changed and people began to want more products, goods and services. As indicted in the national statistics the volume of domestic household expenditure on goods and services rose from 100.0 (indices) in 1971 to all over 200.0 in 2006. This then meant the economy becoming more developed and more research for the country as a whole to reduce death rates, diseases and so forth, making us a well-developed...

...free market economic policies. Growth was propelled further during 1991-1993 by the UN presence in Cambodia.” Cambodia has shown improvements since all the civil wars have ended and will continue to show improvements till the country reaches a better economic situation in the coming years. Cambodia is not a great place to want to start a company unless it had to do with the garment business or the agriculture business because that is the majority of the countries income. Cambodia is becoming a more stable country but it still has a way to go before it can be relied on by other countries. With the population being so young there that “…more than 50% of the population is less than 21 years old. The population lacks education and productive skills…” Which make it difficult for the country to succeed because of the lack of infrastructure. Once economic conditions improve in Cambodia then I can see more companies transitioning over there and creating more jobs to help make a difference and get Cambodia on its own feet. Tourism has played a big part as of late with more people coming and visiting Cambodia it has helped them financially and it is now something the country relies on as income and the real estate market has developed into a better situation as well since the country has improved over the years. ...CASE STUDY ASSIGNMENT 1 – HY DAIRIES LTD Karen Herridge Student ID# 0186147 1. Apply your knowledge of stereotyping and social identity theory to explain what went wrong here. Social Identity theory states that people define themselves by the groups to which they belong or have an emotional attachment. Rochelle easily identifies herself as a minority in the work place—a non-white female. In the case study, she says that she is one of the few non-white women in what is usually a male-dominated field: marketing management. Rochelle’s previous employer had made it clear that women could not handle the pressure in marketing management and for the most part place women in technical support positions after a brief term in lower band management. Because of this experience, Rochelle assumes that Syd Gilman and Hy Dairies are mirroring her last employer’s opinions and actions when in fact; Mr Gilman is trying to reward Rochelle’s hard work. Rochelle is stereotyping because she has organized Hy Dairies into a preconceived category that has been stored in her memory of her previous employer. This non-conscious, automatic process of thinking has led her to believe that she is being sidelined by the company. 2. What other perceptual error is apparent in this case study? Perceptual errors are short cuts in making judgements of others. I think the other perceptual error in this case study is the false-consensus effect or “similar to me effect”. This occurs when people overestimate...

Effective Listening Strategies

...Effective Listening Strategies BSHS 385 April 21, 2015 Dr. Barbara Hughson Effective Listening Strategies Effective listening is an important part of the human service profession. This paper will review three articles about effective listening. For each article, I will provide a summary that includes my thoughts of the article, what was learned about effective listening, and how I can apply it to my daily life as a human service professional. I will also discuss my thoughts on how I will use these strategies and how effective they may be. The first article I read is called “Listen Carefully." This article is discussing teaching listening skills to school-aged children. Some of the research reviewed shows the importance of listening when it comes to human learning and development. Learning how to listen is the first skill in language most children will develop first. Once children begin school, listening becomes even more important because the majority of what children learn is through listening. An interesting fact to me was when McPherson (2008) stated, “Teaching listening skills to middle school at-risk readers improved their reading comprehension scores and found that listening to a story while reading the story's words also improved elementary children's reading comprehension.” (McPherson, 2008) This speaks volumes to me especially when the teaching of listening skills in the classroom is not being done today. Teachers who start teaching listening strategies have...
