Subject: Managerial Behavior

As everyone has probably heard InterClean, Inc. has acquired EnviroTech and will be merging its staff. As first-level mangers you have been entrusted with a great deal of responsibility and your responsibilities will surely increase as this merger proceeds, and I know you will be up to task. In saying that, I would like to address the importance of the type of behavior that a manager should exhibit with 3 key points; (1) how a manager’s behavior can impact the productivity of his or her workers. (2) Types of management actions that are in line with employment laws and those that are not and (3) some best practices for working within a diverse work environment.

Managers must have a positive attitude, express fairness in order to retain employees, and an open mind. Remember, InterClean will be bringing in new staff from EnviroTech, so retention will be very important. Employees performing their jobs effectively should be rewarded. There should be good working relations between employees and managers; and InterClean needs to maintain a healthy and safe work environment. There can be many factors which affect productivity, quality of materials, people skills, procedures, equipment and management skills, just to name a few, but the most important factor would be the attitude of a superior. Appropriate leadership creates a satisfying working environment encouraging higher productivity. Destructive behavior of a manager will turn a well liked job into a disliked one. Rude behavior for managers creates and environment of mistrust and fear, and a consequence of that will have a negative impact

These behaviors can range from small issues like talking in class to major issues such as fighting. These issues need to be handled as early as possible by the teacher to ensure that as less of a disruption to other students occurs. If other students become disrupted by the actions of a few then these students could very well begin to engage in the disruptive behavior and begin to now cause a whole new set of issues for the classroom. Another consequence of the teacher not addressing the misbehavior immediately is that the behavior can become harmful to others or the student themselves. As a teacher, student safety should be the most important thing that the teacher is worried about. Once these behaviors are corrected and other students see that the behavior will not be allowed in the class, then they will begin to formulate within themselves how they should act and perform in that manner.
