Behavior Observation

Topic 1- Health, Textbook p. 406 There are a couple of young ladies that work in the front desk area of my job that are in the phase of transitioning into adulthood. (T.W) and (M.C) are both college interns and are both seeking to join the medical field. Neither of the two are healthy in everyday life and they will be glad to tell you that they are “to pretty” or “don’t have enough time” to eat right and or exercise. But if you ask them what they are doing after work an hour later they say nothing or just chilling. Health is not at the top of priority lists anymore until one feels that they are at risk of something; maybe diabetes, losing sight, bed stricken. T.W has been with us for the second time and has gained weight tremendously from the last time she was here. Her attitude is that of someone whom is extremely confident in herself and her body. She does not care that she is unhealthy as long as she looks good doing it. She has stated that as long as they continue making clothes in her size she will continue to eat.

Topic-2 Substance Abuse, Textbook p. 409 I have an uncle with whom I have been around for years, he is in a very prestige position and his son is currently trying to follow in his footsteps. He has always been very intelligent and very independent to a certain extent. My uncle’s son (D.G) has been on drugs since his early adolescent years, he graduated high school and his reward to himself was to get “high” so to speak. He has been on heroin for quite some time and even though he is able to get through life on a day to day basis you can tell when he is going through withdrawals or on one of his trying to quit phases. Aside from withdrawal symptoms, my cousin is in fairly good physical shape. D.G has no other adverse medical issues and no psychological issues. At first he is polite and even charismatic to you and the

They will talk over each other, correcting each other about the information that they know and learned. The next place I will observe is the mall. I think that most people will be going with their friends or their significant other. Most will have gone to the same shopping center. Most people will be talking casually to one another, joking around and making fun of each other. I also think there will be a lot of smiles and laughter. The last place I will at the place...

Observation To Redirect Child Behavior

...During this assignment we had to redirect the child behavior in some way and we had to observe their reaction towards the redirection. We also had to ask the child who their best friend is, how did they become friends and so on. For this assignment, I observed my nephew, who is about 16 months old. When I first started talking to him, he was playing with his father’s phone. He was trying to do jigsaw puzzle on the phone. After watching him for few minutes I told his father to give him a book to read. As his father grabbed his phone from my nephews’ hands and gave the book to him instead. My nephew started crying and yelling cause he wanted the phone back. I told his father to open the book, so it can make some noise to calm him down. Eventually,...

Behavior Management Observation

...conversations with students, parents, and teachers. If while doing walk throughs I walked into a class where it appeared the teacher was having difficulty managing the behaviors in the class I would make it a point to visit that teacher’s class at least two or three more times before I had a discussion with him or her. Every teacher has that one day when the student act out of the ordinary or that one class that is worse than the others, therefore I visit his or her class two or three more times and at different times. If after several walkthroughs, I see the same behaviors and don’t see behavior management strategies being implemented I would make it a point to have a discussion with the teacher. I would meet with the teacher in his or her room, teachers just like students can get very nervous when they must go to the principal’s office. I would begin the conversation by pointing out some positive things that were noticed during the walkthroughs. Then I would ask the teacher to tell me about her classes. The teacher may very well be aware of the points that are about to be addressed. If the teacher does admit to struggling with behavior I would work with the teacher to develop a plan to make changes and implement...

Observation Behavior in Children

...For my observation, I observed a Preschool classroom during the mid-day. There were 5 children in the class all together, and two teachers. two children were sitting with a teacher coloring and pointing to images and the other three were playing while the teacher supervised. The children were preschool aged and seemed to all be around 2-4 years of age. The three children that were playing were the ones I focused on, specifically a boy, let’s call him John. John was sitting with one girl and another boy playing with two toy cars and some bricks built up like a tower. John seemed to be the leader of the group. He was a little bigger than both children and his communication skills seemed to be far more advanced. While the other children used smaller words to make sentences such as saying “no” or “don’t do that” or “go here” John used more complex sentences. He seemed to almost be teaching the other two children and would expand their sentences. Such as when the little girl said “There” John would say “it goes over here” referring to one of the toy cars. Or if one of the children did something John did not approve of he would say, “no don’t do that, thats not how its suppose to go” Because of this, and due to the fact that there really wasn’t anything else going on I decided to focus in on John and count the number of complex sentences he spoke over a period of fifteen minutes. Due to his language skills, I defined complex sentences as anything he said with 5 or more words such...

Time Sampling

...Time Sampling Introduction: Observation is the key to understanding young children and their development. Teachers learn about a child’s physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language domains as they watch children in multiple learning experiences. Through your observations you will learn to identify appropriate observation techniques (competency # 4). Observation also allows you to meet the CPCC core competencies of communication, critical thinking and information technology and quantitative literacy. Outcome Assessment Standards: NAEYC Standards Standard 1: Promoting Child Development Standard 3: Observing, Documenting and Assessing to Support Young Children & Families. Support Skill 3: Written & Verbal Skills CPCC Core Competencies Communication, Critical Thinking, Information Technology & Quantitative Literacy Description of Specific Assignment Requirements Adapted from Observing Development of Young Children (Beaty, 1990)) In the time sampling method, the observer records the frequency of a behavior’s occurrence over time. The behavior must be overt and frequent (at least once every fifteen minutes) to be a candidate for sampling. For example, talking, hitting, and crying are such behaviors, because they can be clearly seen and counted. Time sampling thus involves observing specified behavior of an individual and recording the presence or absence of this behavior during short time intervals...

Observational Research

...circumstances without intentionally influencing the behavior and environment of study. The study has several observational styles where the scientist is not involved, can be notably present, but not involved, or becomes a participant for a firsthand view of the experience among the people studied. This hands-off research style requires the scientist to have discernment to remain oblivious, account for instances when their presence can affect the behavior and, as other studies, discipline to remain strictly not bias. The first component in this style of research is naturalistic observations, which is for the scientist to be present, but not involved in the study. This observation can be firsthand through one’s own eyes or even by way of media such as a recording of the activity exemplifying the behavior to be measured. As a side note, these styles are particularly interesting when investigating cross-cultural interactions. Observers would try to remain oblivious to the study and take notes about the study’s mannerisms and character directly related to the behavior they are currently observing. Note taking has to remain, as always, precise and, in time, leading to some conclusions testing a hypothesis. This study can be conducted consistently pending the behavior and specifics of the study group. The second approach is participant research where the scientist is actively infiltrating the group studied for firsthand observations. This approach is the most beneficial as it empowers...

Observation

...Observation The student is considered a novice as an observer of children. The student observes children to gain practice and understanding in child development. Students have an obligation to protect children and respect school personnel. Observers are usually visitors in the classroom. The observer must keep in mind that they are a disruption to the regular processes in the classroom and they should respect the classroom teacher’s direction. The protection of the child’s rights in any type of child study is important. Regardless of the procedure used to collect information, the child’s protection is paramount. The child must not come to any harm (physical or mental) through participation in the observation process. Confidentiality must be utilized at all times. Talking about children and families with others outside of class or with the classroom teacher is prohibited. Please use fictitious names in written reports. Any concerns about a child’s safety should be addressed immediately with the classroom teacher or other responsible party. Observation tells us about children’s behavior – what they are doing. If we want to understand children’s development in school settings then we should observe them in those settings. Observation that takes place in a natural environment is referred to as naturalistic observation. Qualities of a Good Observer: · Recognize personal bias and preconceived assumptions about children. · Stay focus for a long period...

...Application Week 2- Daniel Johnson Walden University Children develop quickly at a young age. Young children under the age of six are capable of making thoughtful decisions about their behavior and environment (Epstein, 2003). They may even try to explain their behavior to others. In the case of Josh, a three year old boy that I will use for my observation and assessment project, social skills are still in the process of being developed and he hasn't begun to really start speaking at this point. After interviewing Josh's parents I was told that Josh says very few words and doesn't speak at all in sentences. He does, however, include himself socially with other children and plays easily with them. He understands English and Spanish. His parents are Spanish and only speak their native language in the home. Josh has an older brother, age 9, that speaks English well. This observation will be focused on Josh's social skills. As a three year old the parents are concerned that Josh is not developing at the same rate as his peers socially due to his lack of speaking. I explained to the parents that children develop in many different ways and in many different areas. In regards to the Observation Project, the specific area of development and learning that will be assessed is social development. Examples of behaviors I will be looking for include choices made during social time, inclusion with other peers, and linguistic opportunities. Children who are given more opportunities to plan and reflect...

Methods of Collecting Job Analysis Data

...obtaining job analysis data. These are discussed below. Job performance In this method the job analyst actually performs the job in question. The analyst, thus, receives first hand experience of contextual factors on the job including physical hazards, social demands, emotional pressures and mental requirements. This method is useful for jobs that can be easily learned. It is not suitable for jobs that are hazardous (e.g., fire fighters) or for jobs that require extensive training (e.g., doctors, pharmacists). Personal observation The analyst observes the worker(s) doing the job. The tasks performed, the pace at which activities are done, the working conditions, etc., are observed during a complete work cycle. During observation, certain precautions should be taken The analyst must observe average workers during average conditions. The analyst should observe without getting directly involved in the job. The analyst must make note of the specific job needs and not the behaviors specific to particular workers. The analyst must make sure that he obtains a proper sample for generalization. This method allows for a deep understanding of job duties. It is appropriate for manual, short period job activities. On the negative side, the methods fail to take note of the mental aspects of jobs. Critical incidents The critical incident technique (CIT) is a qualitative approach to job analysis used to obtain specific, behaviorally focused descriptions of work or other activities. Here the job holders...

My Observations On Thanksgiving Day

...I am going with the observation choice one on observing two different conversations I witnessed over the break. I decided to pick this choice is because I knew I was going to be around several people on Thanksgiving Day. Both my observations were at my sister-in-law’s house in Gilroy, Ca. There were a lot of people having small talks and communicating. Obviously, I did not tell anyone what I was doing. I wanted to observe the people in their natural conversation and it was rather funny observing the two different conversations. I chose to observe the first conservation with two brothers named Ron and Brian with turn-taking. Ron is the older one where he talks a lot. He sucks the air out of the room. Ron is one of those people with a big personality who have a tendency to take over a gathering in a way that makes it all about him. Whereas Brian, who is the youngest in the family and is more inclusive in the family. Between the two, there were seldom in turn-taking. Brian was pretty much stroking Ron ego. Ron always seems to make it about himself. Therefore, Brian was not really taking his turn. When Brian did have his turn, Ron quickly took over and Brian was...

Pernet And Child Observation Ben Brown April 7, 2002 Report Child And Parent Behavior Observation I am almost always surrounded by the interactions between children and their parents. I hear it at my work, I hear it in restaurants, but most of all I hear it at my house. My mother owns a daycare and every night I listen parents being hit by a barrage of questions. When children are being picked up they always have a couple of questions for their parents. Children are always asking about the meal for the night or whether they can go over to a friend's house or have some body over. Every night I see 12 different children with twelve different parents and it seems that each parent acts differently then the next. When I thought of observing the children that attend my mothers daycare I decide that I should observe the interactions between the daycares "Problem Child" and his mother. The boy that I chose to observe seemed to have no respect for anyone or anything. He often made obvious lies and played practical jokes that physically hurt the other children. On the Friday night that I observed him and his mother...

Managment a Profession or Science

...observed findings, facts and events. Science comprises of exact principles which can be verified and it can establish cause and effect relations. Main characteristics/features of science are: 1. Systematic body of knowledge: In science organized and systematic study material is available which is used to acquire the knowledge of science. Like science in management also there is availability of systematic and organized study material. So first feature of science is present in management. 2. Scientific principles are derived on the basis of logical and scientific observations: The scientists perform logical observation before deriving any principle or theory. They are very objective while doing the observations. But when managers are observing they have to observe human beings and observation of human being cannot be purely logical and objective. Some kind of subjectivity enters in the observations so this feature of science is not present in management. All the scientific principles have same effect, wherever we try them whereas effect of management principles varies from one situation to other. 3. Principles are based on repeated experiments: Before developing scientific principles scientists test these principles under different conditions and places. Similarly, managers also test and experiment managerial principles under different conditions in different organizations. So this feature of science is present in management. 4. Universal Validity: Scientific...
