There are many factors that contribute to the success of a school. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are critical in understanding, evaluating, and calculating these factors. We have chosen five different KPIs in order to better understand if Bellevue College is meeting the goals of their mission statement and whether or not the school is succeeding or failing. According to the Bellevue College website, the school's mission statement discusses how it wishes to teach excellence, which will advance the lifelong educational development of its students while strengthening the economic, social, and cultural life of its diverse community. The reasoning behind this mission statement is that the individuals who run Bellevue College want the experience …show more content…
This KPI ties directly into the success of the school due to the fact that it is a measurement of how much Bellevue College is assisting its students in having a successful future, outside of the classroom. This only further increases the possibility of the students getting good grades, focusing on and finishing a degree, moving on to a four-year university, and so on. Therefore, this KPI will be another metric in calculating and deciding on whether or not Bellevue College is successful or not. One way to compute part of this KPI is by use of a student survey question. The question of “Did the college provide you adequate advisors to assist with educational needs?” will be measured on a scale of one to five. The higher the score the better, and it shows whether the students feel that there were helpful advisors provided to them. The formula for this will be: total score derived from survey question / number of students who answered the survey question = average level of agreement to the question. In other words, if the average score is higher than a certain goal number, which would mean that the school was successful in this KPI. Another way that it can be calculated would be by taking the number of advising sessions that occur at the school per quarter (each session must be for

Digital technology restructured our society and changed the way that we do things. Almost everyone, from the very young to our senior citizens, is learning how to use some form of digital technology. It aims to support us in communicating with others, achieving an education, and succeeding in the workplace. There are countless ways that digital technology is being used both positively and negatively. However, the most commonly shared belief is that the good outweighs the bad. We have to rely on our digital tools and toys that it seems impossible to envision life without them. The advancement in digital technology changed the way people communicate with friends and family, seek job career opportunities, and the foundation of the education system. Bill Gates

...Jammie Hoffman Advanced Comp& Economics Research Paper 4/19/16 Bill Gates & the Success of Microsoft An entrepreneur is a risk-taker, someone who takes chances to pursue a goal. Entrepreneurs must understand what consumers want and must create a product that drives these consumers towards making a purchase. Understanding the patterns of an economy is a rather difficult task to handle, and only a select few are about to flourish with the way the economy functions. Either an entrepreneur will risk everything and fail, or they will manage to overcome the odds and create a project that could change the face of our economy. Many entrepreneurs fail to make a product successful and hardly any is as recognizable as the creator of Microsoft, Bill Gates. Bill (William) Gates was born on October, 28th, 1955 in Seattle, Washington to an upper- middle-class couple. Gates was the second of three children. Gates developed an early interest in computers and computer software after his parents enrolled him in a private school known as the Lakeside school (Foley). While at Lakeside, Gates met his eventual business partner, Paul Allen. Gates, 15 years old at the time, and Paul, who was two years older, proved their enthusiasm for computers by creating a software system known as “Traf-o-Data.” The objective of this system was to track traffic patterns throughout the city of Seattle. “Traf-o-Data” brought in $20,000 for the two young entrepreneurs (Editors). The system did not become...

A Change Recipient Perspective on Training and Competence Development During Organizational Change

...HUMAN RESOURCES Conference Paper Abstracts A CHANGE RECIPIENT PERSPECTIVE ON TRAINING AND COMPETENCE DEVELOPMENT DURING ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE Olsen, Trude Hogvold; Harstad U. College; trude.olsen@hih.no Stensaker, Inger G.; NHH Norw.Schl of Economics and Business Adm.; inger.stensaker@nhh.no As organizations change and adapt to pressures in the external and internal environment, managers and employees are required to learn new competencies and skills. Ideally, new skill requirements should be identified and developed early in the change process in order to ensure that managers and employees are ready to face their new tasks and roles when the changes are implemented. However, despite good intentions at the top management level, employees and middle managers often report uncertainty and a lack of the necessary skills required to implement change. In this paper, we report from a qualitative study of two planned organizational change initiatives in the public sector. The changes involved new work tasks and managerial roles for a group of middle managers. Although the skill requirements appeared to be clear and formal training was initiated, a number of uncertain and ambiguous issues emerged among the change recipients. We examine the types of uncertainty and ambiguity that emerged and how change recipients attempted to handle these challenges. Our findings suggest that although necessary and important, formal training procedures are not adequate for resolving competence-related...

The History of Emergency Medical Services

...Emergency Medical Services: The Evolution Behind the System Russell Keogler CED 595: Project Seminar May 3, 2011 Dr. Richard Gatteau Abstract The purpose of this study is to determine the evolutionary process of the emergency medical services system. The research explores the impact of war and prominent military figures on the development of emergency medical services as well as civilian efforts made to establish emergency services within the public sector. The research also discusses the ways in which major medical advancements and various reports and acts of legislation played a crucial part in the development of the modern day EMS system. Overall, results show that the EMS system as we know it today is a fairly modern creation based on centuries’ worth of ideas and discoveries. Introduction In modern day America the three digits 9-1-1 signify an accessible lifeline for individuals in need of emergency medical attention. The vast system is accessible from any telephone line and provides emergency services to even the most remote locations of the country. However, in spite of the simplistic process to initiate services, the emergency medical system is very complex. Thousands of independent agencies working in different capacities must coordinate efforts to insure that the system runs efficiently. Without effective cooperation by organizations the system would undeniably fail to meet the expectations of those calling for medical aid (Limmer &...

Leadership

...CULTURE SPECIFIC AND CROSSCULTURALLY GENERALIZABLE IMPLICIT LEADERSHIP THEORIES: ARE ATTRIBUTES OF CHARISMATIC/TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP UNIVERSALLY ENDORSED?1 This study focuses on culturally endorsed implicit theories of leadership (CLTs). Although crosscultural research emphasizes that different cultural groups likely have different conceptions of what leadership should entail, a controversial position is argued here: namely that attributes associated with charismatic/transformational leadership will be universally endorsed as contributing to outstanding leadership. This hypothesis was tested in 62 cultures as part of the Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) Research Program. Universally endorsed leader attributes, as well as attributes that are universally seen as impediments to outstanding leadership and culturally contingent attributes are presented here. The results support the hypothesis that specific aspects of charismatic/transformational leadership are strongly and universally endorsed across cultures. Deanne N.
