Teens Against Hitler
After World War I, Germany’s economy was failing. The German people were looking for new leaders to solve their problems. In 1933, the tyrant Adolph Hitler toke power in Germany. He believed that Germans were superior to everybody else and he blamed many of Germany’s problems on the Jews. He formed the Nazi Party and tried to annihilate all of the Jews of Europe. This plan was known as the Holocaust. Many Jewish teenagers took a stand and fought against Hitler during the Holocaust. One teenager who fought was Ben Kamm. Ben’s experiences during the Holocaust brought out the best in him, but they also scarred him for life.
Ben Kamm was one of the teens that fought the Nazi…show more content… Ben was having trouble adjusting to his new life as a resistance fighter. “He had to learn to shoot, to fall asleep on the cold forest ground, to endure days in rain soaked clothing, and to ambush Polish policemen and steal their weapons” (Tarshis 9). But Ben’s rage and wartime experiences had made him very strong and hardy. This shows that the harsh conditions Ben had to endure made him more prepared to fight of the Nazi party.
Ben also had gotten braver due to his time rebelling against Hitler. Ben’s
“bravery and skill soon earned him the respect of the most experienced fighters” (Tarshis 9). Also, “Ben volunteered for dangerous missions blowing up cargo trains carrying supplies to German troops” (Tarshis 10). This proves that Ben became brave and was willing to carry out dangerous missions while working for the partisans. The war had very positive effects on Ben. It led to become very strong and brave. But it also affected him negatively. The Holocaust scarred him emotionally, and he will never forgive the people who killed thousands of innocent lives.
