The Benefits of a Marketing Plan
A marketing plan, on the other hand, is plump with meaning. It provides you with several major benefits. Let's review them. * Rallying point: Your marketing plan gives your troops something to rally behind. You want them to feel confident that the captain of the vessel has the charts in order, knows how to run the ship, and has a port of destination in mind. Companies often undervalue the impact of a "marketing plan" on their own people, who want to feel part of a team engaged in an exciting and complicated joint endeavor. If you want your employees to feel committed to your company, it's important to share with them your vision of where the company is headed in the years to come. People don't always understand financial projections, but they can get excited about a well-written and well-thought-out marketing plan. You should consider releasing your marketing plan--perhaps in an abridged version--companywide. Do it with some fanfare and generate some excitement for the adventures to come. Your workers will appreciate being involved. * Chart to success: We all know that plans are imperfect things. How can you possibly know what's going to happen 12 months or five years from now? Isn't putting together a marketing plan an exercise in futility . . . a waste of time better spent meeting with customers or fine-tuning production? Yes, possibly but only in the narrowest sense. If you don't plan, you're doomed, and an inaccurate plan is far better than no plan at all. To stay with our sea captain analogy, it's better to be 5 or even 10 degrees off your destination port than to have no destination in mind at all. The point of sailing, after all, is to get somewhere, and without a marketing plan, you'll wander the seas aimlessly, sometimes finding dry land but more often than not floundering in a vast ocean. Sea captains without a

While more than 80% of companies with 500 or more employees are self-insured, the management of Southeast Health Plans has identified that less than 25% of Atlanta area companies with 50 to 500 employees have self-insured plans. ...definition of the ingredients that cannot be proven or supported. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines are very specific in the requirements for environmental marketing claims. There must be qualifications and disclosures as well as a distinction between the benefits of the product, packaging, and service. Therefore, developing a new product line that will be promoted as safe, effective, and eco-friendly and priced at one and one-half times the current price may be too risky a plan to pursue. While this approach may provide a substantial net profit increase; it must be considered that it could also provide a much larger downside without further research and development to ensure compliance with the FTC’s guideline for environmental claims. Development of a private label for sale by Wal-Mart, K-Mart, and other selected outlets would definitely be a good approach to expanding the market that would conceivably increase market share and net profits with the appropriate marketing strategy and implementation of the marketing plan. This label, in my opinion, could very well include an upholstery cleaner that would fit very well in the marketing plan for carpet cleaning products. The consumer plan, as described here, will work well for a short period of time. The reason I say this is because the plan is described as a plan that implies a new product when in reality, it is the same product with the description and labeling altered in an attempt to fool the consumer into believing it...

...– DQ 1, What is the definition of marketing? What are the benefits and drawbacks of incorporating marketing into the sales function of an organization? Do you think that marketing should be included as part of the sales organization within a company? Explain why or why not.  Marketing is the foundation, direction, and/or functions an entity uses to produce a product, service, or idea and makes certain that the product, service, or idea they produce reaches consumers. There are a couple benefits and drawbacks to incorporating marketing into the sales function of an organization. The benefits of incorporating marketing into the sales function of an organization is the marketing function can decrease operating expense defining the consumer’s needs and wants which will decrease the cost. The drawbacks of incorporating marketing into the sales function of an organization deals with micro marketing and macro marketing. Being socially responsible and ethical to both, consumers and non consumers, may increase sales costs, due to production costs, and decrease sales profits (Perreault, Cannon, McCarthy, 2011). I do feel that marketing should be included as part of the sales organization within the company because services that the company provides in a marketing sales aspect can apply the analysis so that the consumers needs and wants can be analyzed. It will provide an example of both a success and a failure of a product due to its marketing plan. Lastly this paper will provide an example of a poor marketing plan that made a film fail at the box offices. Marketing Plans Introduction For any business, product, or service to succeed, they must understand how to market themselves. If done properly, the product, service or individual will succeed but if done poorly then the product, service or individual will fail. Merck Medco

...Executive Summary RECOMMENDATION My recommendation to the Board is to approve the merger with Medco. Medco is one of the top benefit management companies and with the right preparation prior to merger the downside of the merger can be minimized. The potential upside given industry trends and where it is headed are too great to ignore. Medco’s position in the market and success as a company, have proven it would be a valuable asset. The insight it can give Merck and the access to the market to increase share and give insight to Merck’s drug treatments will be invaluable. MARKETING & SALES CONSIDERATIONS Currently Merck has to send out its own reps to doctors where Medco does the same to doctors and companies. This will eliminate that area for Merck and result in a $1 billion annual savings in redundant marketing costs by a reduction of Merck’s sales force by using the marketing strategies of Medco’s database and ideology of marketing to plan managers as opposed to doctors. OPERATERATIONAL CONSIDERATIONS Medco’s database that allows Merck to identify prescriptions that can be switched from competitors to their brand will help increase market share while weakening competition. Merck pharmacists will be able to suggest these switches to the patient’s doctor. FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS Medco has about 33 million customers in the United States and manages 95 million prescriptions a year for government, unions, insurance firms and companies. Revenues for Medco were...
