...nettle were much the same. One physician claimed that nettles were helpful with bladder stones, worms in children, and as an antiseptic wash for wounds or skin infections. It was said to be an aphrodisiac and one 19th-century physician claimed nettle seed oil taken internally was good as that as well. Stinging nettle was used for many other purposes besides for their medicinal properties. The use of stinging nettle for their fibers date back to 3000-2000 BC in Denmark. Burial shrouds were found made out of nettle fibers. Nettle was used to make cloth in the First World War in Germany when cotton was scarce. Nettle is not used for cloth today because the fibers are difficult to separate, and other materials are cheaper. You can also make paper out of nettle fibers. The plant was also used for a green dye for clothing for centuries, especially in Russia. Great Britain during the Second World War used it to dye uniforms for camouflage. Current Traditional Uses Stinging nettle is one of the most referenced plants for medicinal use in traditional European medicine. “Species with wide distribution Urtica dioica is usually applied as a mean against anemia and cardiovascular diseases (Testai et al., 2002), but people in the area of interest also use it against a cough, fever, liver and gall diseases.” (Redzik S., 2010) Nettle has been widely used as a highly nutritious food, especially among the poor, since they grow so easily and is freely available. It is traditionally used as food...

...including Captain Cook wrote affectionately about the beauty of communities across the Pacific using coconut oil as an integral part of their daily lives. During WWII the water of the young green coconut was successfully used as a substitute for a saline drip saving the lives of many allied soldiers. After the war, in England coconut oil was sold as "margarine" and in the USA as "coconut butter". However, this all changed in 1954. In the social environment of the USA in which coronary heart disease (CHD) was becoming the primary cause of mortality in the adult population, the young researcher David Kritchevsky published two academic papers. The initial research described the effects of feeding cholesterol to rabbits and indicated that this may lead to the formation of blocked arteries and thus contribute to potential heart disease. In his second paper he described the beneficial effects of consuming polyunsaturated fatty acids from the oil of corn, soybeans, safflower and sunflower seeds for the lowering, at least temporarily, of...
