It started with the second and third degree burn on her leg that became infected. Her inability to afford the full set of medications and treatments worsened her condition. In addition, her wound did not heal well because of her diabetes. It then became gangrenous. Changing the plan of care initiated the PCP created domino effects of disaster. The surgeon has failed the patients in various aspects – the failed femoral-popliteal bypass that ended up in amputating the patient’s leg, prescription of gentamycin, and the administration of the IV contrast that caused her to become hypotensive– all led to the patient’s renal insufficiency. The lack of support from the district and social workers denied her access to dialysis services. From then on, her body systems eventually shut down and then she passed away.
