This analysis would understand the competition when it comes to the advantages and disadvantage in relative When it comes to the cost of leadership, there is a lot to think about and plan out; this isn’t an easy business to jump into a lot needs to be considered. ...Assignment: Amazon Evolution Tracy Robinson Dalke XBIS 219 Business Information Systems June 19, 2011 Leslie D'Anjou Assignment: Amazon Evolution In order to keep up in the global revolution of internet Amazon has created services they can provide to businesses to utilize their unused processing capacity. These services make Amazon’s infrastructure available to companies and individuals to help them run the technical and logistical parts of their businesses (Introduction to Information Systems). I believe that Amazon is moving beyond its core competency, which began as an online book retailer. Amazon has gone from selling books to also selling some electronics, such as E-Readers. With the addition of the services Amazon is now introducing, they are more able to compete with Microsoft and Google. In adding services at reasonable prices Amazon has created and implemented a sound strategy that should help to keep them in the forefront of the global internet market. The services Amazon has added so far include Simple Storage Service (S3), which allows businesses to store data and applications on Amazon disk drives, Amazon charges 15 cents per gigabyte per month. Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) is a service in which Amazon rents out processing power starting at 10 cents per hour. Some businesses use both of these services together saving the companies both money and time. The third service Amazon has added is called Mechanical Turk, this service combines processing power...

...Figure 1: Shukongojin, 12th/14th century Japan. It is composed of wood with traces of polychromy. The sculpture is from Kate S. Buckingham Endowment, 1958. The information is from the Art Institute of Chicago. The image is taken from a sketch over a photograph from an LG camera phone. Lester Leong ASST/AH 219 February 9, 2013 Visual Analysis: Shukongojin The Art Institute’s Shukongojin is a Japanese free standing wooden sculpture that is 91 cm tall with traces of red pigment, and was created approximately during the 12th-14th century. Shukongojin is also known as the Thunderbolt Deity that has the power to pierce ignorance with wisdom and defeat evil. The deity is a protector of Buddhist law and is usually placed at gateways of Buddhist temples. The Art Institute created a perfect setting for the sculpture. It was placed on top of a pedestal under a soft yellow light, which gave it a divine appearance. Complimented with the solemn silence at the time and other Buddhist deities on pedestals nearby, the experience was similar to that of a sacred temple. Shukongojin is composed of shapes and direction of the lines that give the sculpture a menacing appearance. The sculpture has three distinct shapes: the head, right arm, and base. The head’s primary noticeable feature is the hair. The hair has a general angular shape that appears like a cone composed of smaller cones. Also the hair has a wavy style which gives it a flame like image. The heads’ secondary feature...

...With total revenue and comp sales down again in the first quarter of 2010, Borders Group's two top executives discussed way to improve the chain's profitability (loss in the quarter was reduced to .1 million, from .0 million) and its digital strategy, in a conference call last Thursday. CFO Mark Bierley said Borders will look to maximize the profitability of its stores by "aggressively" pursuing lease buyouts of underperforming outlets; it had 680 stores at the end of the first quarter. Borders will also implement new measures to cut shrinkage and explore ways to increase the efficiency of its supply chain, including shipping more product directly to stores. ...The way to make a successful company is based on the success of its employees and managers. Each member of the team is responsible for ethical work behavior in which the end result is good quality products. Management planning helps guide and change the company according to the management style while following the four basic management guides. Planniing and strategical approach to a profitable operation requires often a complex design that obeys laws, regulations and social influences. Boeing was faced with a difficult dilemma following the 9/11 terrorist attack on the United States. Many people were questioning the safety of the skies and the airplanes. Management had to rethink the way that the business was being conducted in order to make sure that the airlines did not lose too much business. Despite the limited amount of vendors that were producing the airplanes, Boeing had to keep up with the changing economy in order to keep being a successful company. The Boeing organization is spanned across a global market so management structure has to be able to adapt to its functional performance. This is why Boeing uses an adaptable company structure which is not only seen in the management style but also the management performance. Regardless of the four functions of management, differentiation and integration also exist as a unit in a large company like Boeing. They also connect the various parts of the organization to attain the organization’s mission. As the companies differentiate...

...Writing in Mathematics Jeffery Hunt MAT/219 April 23, 2014 Amanda Manley Writing in Mathematics 153. Explain the negative exponent rule and give an example. The negative exponent rule is that if the variable is any real number other than 0 and your power is a natural number you can use b-n = 1/bn to remove the negative exponent. An example of this is 9-3. The answer would be 1/729 because using the formula mentioned above would make this 1/9*9*9 which would equal 1/729. 154. How do you know if an exponential expression is simplified? An exponential expression is simplified when the four rules of simplifying are met. These rules are each base occurs only once, no parentheses appear, no powers are raised to powers, and no negative or zero exponents appear. 155. How do you know if a number is written in scientific notation? A number is written in scientific notation with the formula a*10n, where a would be a number between 1 and 10, and n would be an integer. 156. Explain how to convert from scientific to decimal notation and give an example. If the integer is positive move the decimal point to the right that number of places. If the integer is negative move it to the left that number of places. An example of this would be 5.3 * 109 which would equal 5,300,000,000. 157. Explain how to convert from decimal to scientific notation and give an example. If using the number 7,300,000,000,000,000 I would use the formula, a*10n. So first I need to know that...

...MAT/219 Chapter 5.7 Questions 153-158 153. Explain the negative exponent rule and give an example. The negative exponent rule A-n = 1/an, means that the negative exponent in the numerator is to be switched/moved to the denominator side to be converted into a positive exponent. When there is a negative exponent is gets moved to the numerator and then becomes a positive exponent. You should only move negative exponents. EX: 5-2= 1/5-2 = 1/25 4x-2 = 4/x-2 X-3/Y-7 = Y7/X3 154. How do you know if an exponential expression is simplified? The easiest way to know when an exponent is simplified is when the X in the expression has an exponent attached to it. 155. How do you know if a number is written in scientific notation? When you use scientific notation you first need to move the decimal place until you reach a number between 1-10, than you will need to add a power of 10 to show how many places you moved that decimal. ' Example: 2,990,000,000 becomes 2.99 x 109 Being able to really tell when a number is written in scientific notation is when you see that number converted into a decimal times the amount of places of zero where you will see an exponent of 10x how ever many places are left such as the example above. 156. Explain how to convert from scientific to decimal notation and give an example. When you see a scientific notation and it shows you x 106, the exponent is telling you how many places you need to...

...EBay is one of the largest E-tailers on the internet. I am personally an EBay addict, not going to lie. EBay works like this, First you set up an account with them for the most part EBay Sellers want you to use PayPal as a secure form of payment. So you need to set up that account as well, when you have your accounts set up you is ready to buy and sell. When selling, EBay takes a percentage of the money made and takes that as a charge for you selling your things. When buying, you just purchase with your PayPal. Once payment is received by the seller the product is shipped. The disadvantages to using EBay are the security of it; you sell to the highest bidder and try to get the lowest price when shopping. If someone were to hack the mainframe Server tons of people would have loss of money, identity, and product. Advantages would be the fact that EBay is a great way to shop and sell. The fact that the payment is separated from the actual EBay site itself is good; it serves as better security to protect buyers and sellers. One other disadvantage to EBay is the program itself to selling items. The site is very non-user friendly, meaning, it is very hard to use. It could use some improvements in this area, to simplify the site and the selling products site. I do have an etail business, I do not have eBay because I believe it is more for Electronics and Cars, I sell crafts. I use a site designed around homemade arts called, Etsy. It is a lot cheaper as well as user...

...Club IT BIS 219 May 2, 2011 Club IT While I was an intern I was responsible for analyzing Club IT’s needs, I decided to pay them a visit one weekend and see for myself what needed to be done. Although I had a wonderful time, I started to wonder about the club and the people that it attracts.. I did notice that it had a young feel to it, with heart pumping music, lighting, special effects and would be very popular with the people young of age. This could also be a nice place for the older crowd to hang out also. There were several IT issues that started going through my mind. I decided to look over the club’s website to see how much of the club’s information was available to the public and if it needed any adjusting. I decided that the Customer Orientation Strategy would give Club It the best competitive advantage. This is because the despite all of the club’s potential, it was still very empty. Creating an excellent mission statement, addressing the IT needs in relation to the Club’s needs, and performing the customer orientation strategy will enhance this club’s IT ability and clientele. Shortly after viewing Club IT’s website, I noticed that they already had an appealing mission statement in place. That mission statement is “We, Ruben and Lisa, offer you live music, DJ's, dance space and refreshments that suit your lifestyle. You are our friends, and we seek to build a community that meets regularly at Club IT." (Club IT ) Their mission statement is quite appealing...
