Throughout my life, my sisters, Bethany and Merridee, have always been there for me. Through thick and thin, they would always be there to support, advise, and comfort me. I know that my sisters have undoubtedly shaped the growth of my character and boosted my confidence to formulate me to be the person I am today.
During my younger years, I felt overlooked because I was the little brother. I felt the expectation to follow the paths of my two older sisters was beyond the bounds of my abilities. I noticed them doing exceptionally well in high-caliber classes, such as AP Calculus, and at the time I thought that was unattainable for myself! I was discouraged because at that time, I was only taking 7th grade math and had trouble understanding it. I thought to myself, “How could I ever be as good as them, if I can’t even remember the Pythagorean Theorem?” So, before my oldest sister left for college, she wrote me a letter and told me not to open it until she left. I saved that letter and still cherish it to this day, for she wrote about all of her struggles in high school and insisted for me not to give up on myself. She told me that while my parents seem strict, they were only looking out for us. She reminded me that I needed to learn to trust in my own abilities. She told me not to worry because I was one of the smartest people she knew for my age. She wrote many more thoughtful things about me and her advice was golden. If it were not for that letter, I would not have ended up where I am today.
