...I have been interested in I.C.T. and the impact it has on people’s lives since the day my family got our first P.C. a 486Mhz processor P.C. Obviously at the time this was thought to be at the fore front of the computing world, but due to how quickly technology has evolved, times have changed. Having studied, I have become more and more interested not only in the impact it has on people’s lives, but the huge impact it has and can have on the business world. During my I.C.T. A-level, I spent time designing and creating an information system to be used by a real end-user. I found this to be the highlight of my two year course and was particularly interested in the detailed processes that have to be undertaken by teams within an organisation, in order to initiate a fully functional system. My reason for choosing this course is clear, both business and I.C.T. affect all of us in our everyday lives. Although both subjects are somewhat demanding, I find them extremely interesting and I am confident that a degree combining both of them is the correct choice to enable me to begin a career in an area that I will enjoy. I represented my school at rugby at all levels and also had the opportunity to undertake some uncommon activities at school. These included archery, sailing, rifle shooting and wind surfing. I was also lucky enough to have the opportunity to attend a one-week windsurfing course during which I achieved my level one windsurfing qualification. In my spare time I enjoy a wide...

...Economics of industry According to Daniel O. Klier, diversification is defined as a process when the firm enters into a new product category than the industry that it is currently working in. Thus, diversification leads to the firm entering into new markets by offering new product range. Currently, many companies have been initiating to enter into diversification since it helps to reduce their dependency on a single product range and its limited market. Over a period of time, many companies have been diversifying to reduce their risks. For instance, Wipro which is an IT firm few years back diversified into fast moving consumer goods industry, Giorgio Armani which is a fashion luxury goods brand diversified into hotel industry, Hindustan unilever limited diversified into water purifiers etc. A firm can diversify into three categories: Concentric diversification: in this type of diversification the companies would like to generate those product categories which require the same technology inputs. Thus, the company will be using the same research and development and technological knowhow and enter into a new product category. For instance, for instance, Maggie has introduced soups and ketchups where the technological efforts in the food processing market remain the same but the product is new. Conglomerate diversification: in this type of diversification, the company is entering into a new industry with a new product range which is not similar to its products in any form. for...

...Lorem Ipsum | Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet [Insert Date] | Corporate Level Strategy Corporate Strategy Airtel is the single largest player, both in terms of revenue and customers in the Wireless segment and in the Airtel Business segment in India. It is the largest private player in the Telemedia services – Broadband and Fixed Line services. It also is one of the leading players in the other SBU’s – Digital TV services, and passive infrastructure services. As the market leader, Airtel is making efforts to expand the total market, as well as defend its market share. Airtel has played a key role in the introduction of 4G/LTE services and in the Digital TV space in the country. It has also penetrated the rural market, which now boasts of a much better ARPU than before. As the market leader, Airtel’s strategy has been 4 fold – * High Usage, High Price: Airtel has focused on higher usage and higher price in India. Airtel started with low pricing, which helped it augment its subscriber base (largest in the country), and then steadily increased the prices. However, with the entry of newer firms like Docomo and Aircel, this strategy has not played off very well, with Airtel losing market share, from over 30% 4 years ago to just over 20% currently. * Marketing and Branding: Airtel has, over the years, laid strong emphasis on marketing and branding. The Brand ‘Airtel’ is one of the most recognizable brands in the country, let alone telecom. It has engaged in mass spending...

...Wal-Mart Stores is an irresistible retail shopping force in the world we live in today. Majority of our fellow Americans have shopped at the nation’s number one retailer one time or another due to their catchy motto, “Save Money. Live Better.” or “Every Day Low Prices.”. It is also the number one retailer in Canada and Mexico. Today, the company employs 2.2 million associates worldwide and serves 200 million customers each week at more than 10,000 stores in 27 countries. One of those recently added countries being India. India is the second largest country with a population of over 1.2 billion people. The country thrives off of small businesses headed by poor families trying to make a living and to support their families. In the past decade however, India has made it clear they want to expand their horizons. This idea is not favored with everyone due to the fear of forgetting India’s roots and traditions to the modern way (or Western way). It is also causing a stir about the decline in profit to small businesses. The value of Indian economic output in 2012 will be $1.95 trillion and $2.12 trillion in 2013. That makes it one of the 10 largest economies in the world. India has already overtaken several rich countries such as Canada as far as the size of its economy goes. But faster economic growth is important as well as creating a robust economy that offers many opportunities to 1.2 billion Indians. The way to ensure this is not temporary; it’s monetary and fiscal...
