I believe that we should not only understand the book of Genesis but also being able to get some type of knowledge of the people and culture during that time. By learning how there, day-to-day life was we would be able to understand the text better. I also believe we have been created in the image and likeness of God as written on (Genesis 1:27) “So God created mankind in his own image”. We have the highest place in all of Gods creations because we were made of his image. “Wentzel van Huyssteen proposes an intriguing reinterpretation of the biblical symbol of the imago Dei, according to which the purpose of humankind as created in the image of God, is 'to set forth the presence of God in this world.” As we read Genesis, we learn that God had created the world and all living things out of nothing in seven days. He labor for six days and the seventh was a holy day of rest. When God had created man, he called him Adam but the Lord saw that he was alone so he created woman. As we look at Genesis, we can also gain a great deal of knowledge about human relationships as written on (Genesis 2:18) “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” This verse also communicates the value of a marriage relationship. God created man and woman to be separate persons that come together and form one. God had placed Adam in a deep sleep and removed one of his ribs and from that rib God created woman she was name Eve. The book of Genesis gives us a better understanding of human identity (Genesis 1:27) “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” God created us in His own image and likeness. This means that we are unique that we have ability’s that God gave us that he did not give to any other creature. Before they had sinned in the garden of Eden Adam and Eve had no sin nature, and were not enslaved to sin the way humans are today. God had warned Adam never to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil that was in the garden as written on (Genesis 2:17) “But you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” They were naked and were not ashamed of this, since there was no sin or evil in the world yet and both were innocent. Nevertheless, they did not obey God they eat from the tree they had been deceived by the serpent. Was Adam innocent or was he persuaded by Eve. As “Blenkinsopp leaves little doubt about his dismissal of original sin as he laments, "This unfortunate tradition of denigration, in which male fear of the female played, and continues to play, a significant part.” Because of there, actions we are cursed until today in a constant fight between the flesh tempting us to sin and the spirit fighting to guide us toward God. We experience this every day in our relationships with our families and others at work, play and just walking down the streets our mind eyes and even the heart betrays us giving into the desirers of the flesh. When we should be following what God is always trying to tell us just open up your hearts clear your ears and listen to God. Nevertheless even today will kill our brothers and sisters as Cain killed his brother Abel. In the Old Testament we can see how God felt about us in (Genesis 6:5) “The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Our natural state is one of evil that desires sin over what God wants for us. At that moment, God wanted to destroy the world and everything on it what are the differences from then and today not many or even worst today. He will never give his blessing, if we prefer beauty, wit, wealth, or worldly honors, to faith and holiness. Nevertheless, God still gave them a chance by sending Enoch and Noah to preach to them; by waiting graciously for them to turn from their evil ways as a loving father not wanting to reprimand his children. So God told Noah (Genesis 6:13) “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.” Everything on earth was washed clean by God and we had another chance. After that, God had made a covenant with Noah that he would never destroy the earth again by water (Genesis 9:13) “I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” Genesis 1-11 is not just a history book it teaches us many things about the natural world, human identity, human relationships, and civilization and is the word of the living God. However, even today our hearts are deceitful and desperately wicked; corrupt and evil. If we believe that the Bible is true then we should allow this to shape our lives. Things like marriage, respect, and helpfulness are the beginnings of who we are as people, and how we are to treat, one another by these teachings. The Genesis 1-11 message is very clear telling us story after story of God’s love for us. Nevertheless, even after all of this the wickedness that is among our civilization cannot be hid from him and if it were not repented of, it shall be made known by him. I believe in the sanctity of human life, marriage between a man and woman as against abortion. Also that we all were create equal in the eyes of God. I pray that we can conduct ourselves with other people the way we aspire to conduct ourselves with Christ.
