INTRODUCTION

Volvo Car Corporation separated from his parent Ford in August, 2010; it was also breaking free from Ford IT infrastructure. That’s allows the company to developed and integrated new IT infrastructure, making a significant changes on their business.

1) Judge how Volvo Car Corporation integrated the cloud infrastructure into its networks.
Volvo Car Corporation has doing successfully the integration of cloud infrastructure into its networks. They have captured terabytes of data through sensors and CPUs embedded in their cars, and transmitting to manufacturer via cloud. Then, those data are streamed into Volvo data warehouse with others data coming from customer’s relationships management, from dealerships, their production/factory floors and product development and design systems. All those data stored and use by Volvo give him a real advantage in its field of business.

2) Explain how Volvo car corporation transforms data into knowledge
Once those terabytes of data are collected and stored into Volvo data warehouse, they combined and analyzed them to extract useful information. Those information help Volvo Car Corporation either to be predictive or proactive. As said Rich Strader, CIO’s chair at Volvo” by splicing that data together, we are pre-warned about potential issues such as mechanical problems that might have shown up late in the field”. An example of this, is the enhance of the Swedish company’s market based on his safety record.

3) Identify the real-time information system implemented and evaluate the impact of those implementations.
The real time information system implemented by Volvo is online real time processing via cloud. The system deployed is Microsoft Server Production Portfolio precisely. Those implementations simplify their It environment because there are no licenses for multiple products. Any employee can access information stored in warehouse at any time and also, all decisions are take based of data collected are consequently efficient.

4) Argue how big data strategy gives Volvo Car Corporation a competitive advantage.
The real time information in disposal of Volvo Car Corporation based on real time huge volumes of data collect from various sources(cars, customer’s relationships management, from dealerships, their production/factory floors and product development and design systems), allows company to be predictive and innovative. That capacity gives Volvo a competitive advantage, because products and decisions they issues are based on real demand or need.

Conclusion
Big data as experienced by Volvo Car Corporation have shown that real time information can lead a company to success. But, other challenges about those terabytes data are security and privacy of information.

Prior to the hard drive era, people logged data on paper and eventually stored it in a locker room.
