This research paper presents that bilingual education has been used as a common educational method all over the world because knowing only one language is not enough for twenty-first century learners due to their educational achievements, economic challenges, and successful socialization skills. The researchers show that students in bilingual programs obtain better academic achievements compared with those who are in monolingual programs. The authors emphasize the importance of English and present that English is mainly used as a language for working, communication and conferences in European countries even though there are many official and working languages recognized by the European Union. Furthermore, they show that there have been an increasing number of English-medium programs throughout Asia; for example, they say that the Chinese government has enhanced Chinese–English bilingual education in its national education system in order to improve both learners’ English proficiency and the quality of higher education system due to globalized economy. Crawford has done an excellent job outlining some of the more common misunderstandings that surround the education of ELLs.
