Abstract: There have been only two times an impeachment of a president occurred in US history. A third was underway until the president resigned from office. However, the question remains about one of these impeached presidents, did former president Bill Clinton deserve to be impeached. There is clear cut evidence that Bill Clinton had broken an oath while working as president, yet some of these matters are personal business. Diving deeper into this matter, finding facts on the reason for the impeachment, what case was made against Bill Clinton to be put on trial, and the main question on if he deserved to be impeached. While he passed bills that made significant impacts for the American people, there was an increase in jobs, the unemployment dropped from 7 percent in 1993 to 4 percent in November 2000. As all presidents before him, there have been fair share of positive voices on Bill Clinton’s accomplishments, yet there are still those critics stating how his action were bad for the nation. A few of the bad actions former president Clinton made were, the Defense of Marriage Act which deprived legally wed same-sex couples, signed NAFTA, North America Free Trade Agreement, and to top the peaceful economy, Clinton added over trillions of dollars to the US debt. Even with these dreadful things, does this really make him a “bad” president? The impeachment process begins with the House of Representatives presenting either a list of the charges under oath. They will determine whether these are high crimes against the law or false in accurate information is given. To go to trial, the full House must make a majority vote in favor of impeachment; then the process passes to the Senate. The Chief Justice plays a key role with the impeachment process by presiding with 100 Senators as the jury during the impeachment trial. The Senate will then meet in private to debate the verdict, following an open session, votes on a verdict. If 2/3 of votes are in favor of conviction the Senate will remove the president from office and vote to prohibit the president from holding any public office in the future. If Bill Clinton was found guilty of these charges and the Senate gained 2/3 of the votes claiming guilty, the Senate would have removed him from office.
