Bill Gates’ motivation may have been sparked from the semi-success of his parents. They were established, after all. His father served in the U.S. Army and later attended college at the University of Washington. His mother also attended college at UW where she was a sorority president. She was also a member of an organization that is now known as the United Way.
Bill Gates was known for taking annual week-long vacations that he called “Think Week”. In 1995 he returned from his Think Week with a memo for his executive staff on the subject of the newest development, the internet, and Microsoft’s newest competitor, Netscape. Bill’s initiative to take time for himself to think could be attributed to his grandmother’s constant reminder for him to think. As a boy, he would even sit in his bedroom after dinner in which he said he was thinking.
Gates’ was determined to grow his company by placing his software everywhere that he could. His software was installed on nearly every computer hardware that was available, except for those made by Apple Inc, in which he later made an attempt to buy when he recognized them as the only competitor left. He even made a deal with AOL to put their icon on his software if they made Microsoft’s Internet Explorer their internet browser. His competitive nature directly relates to his childhood experiences. His Gam was a competitive card player who taught him how to play and “think smart”. Gates was also the fastest in his class at answering math drill questions and had already read the entire World Book Encyclopedia in the fourth grade.
Steve Jobs was a risk taker. We saw this throughout his entire career. The example that stands out the most would be the fact that he created his own technology world; today we use Apple iPhones that function on Apple operating systems and are equipped with Apple applications and even Apple’s own internet

However, the way in which either of these men went about this quest has been different. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates have changed the way the world does business, but the story of their leadership styles is even more compelling than the success and innovation spawned by Apple and Microsoft. Bill Gates versus Steve Jobs: The Early Years Bill Gates started developing his computer skills with his childhood friend Paul Allen at Lakeside School in Seattle. At the- age of 14, the two had formed their first computer company. After high school, AIlen and Gates left Seattle for Boston. Gates went off to Harvard and Allen began working for Honeywell. After only two years at Harvard, Gates and Allen left Boston for Albuquerque to develop language, for the new Altair 8080 PC. This computer language would become BASIC and the foundation for Microsoft, which was created as a partnership in 1975. After five years in New Mexico, Microsoft relocated to Bellevue, Washington, in 1990 with BASIC and two other computer languages (COBOL and FORTRAN) in its arsenal. Later that year, IBM began developing its first PC and was in need of an operating system. Microsoft developed the Microsoft disk operating system (MS-DOS) for IBM while two other companies created competing systems. Gate’s determination and...

(Gates, Bill (1996) The management style of Steve jobs is too aggressive because of a forceful and demanding personality. These guys are the leaders of the Information Technology Industry who have revolutionized the Information Technology world with their great thinking and innovation. As far as their education is concerned they both don’t have a good record, they both were the dropouts. As I am doing the comparative analysis of each of their appropriate skills, I will be considering the differences and similarities between Bill Gates of Microsoft and Steve Jobs of Apple Computer, two of the most successful Business Leaders in the world of personal computing. Both started their careers almost at the same time and within the same industry. They are without a doubt two of the most successful and wealthy men in the PC industry. Steve Jobs is a true creative thinker and technological leader while Bill Gates is a brilliant businessmen and true genius. The competition and rivalry between Gates and Jobs has become one of the most enduring and fascinating in the American business industry. In the end both men are well-known and idolized by many. ...I am doing a short research on two successful leaders in the technology sector on their leadership style and behavior. The First person I have selected to research on the leadership style and behavior is Bill Gates. William (Bill) H. Gates III is co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Microsoft Corporation, the world's leading provider of software for personal computers. Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955. He and his two sisters grew up in Seattle. Their father was a Seattle attorney. Mary Gates, their late mother, was a schoolteacher, University of Washington regent and chairwoman of United Way International. Bill Gates attended public elementary school before moving on to the private Lakeside School in North Seattle. It was at there that Bill Gates began his career in personal computer software, programming computers at age 13.In 1973 he entered Harvard University as a freshman. While he was there, he developed a version of the programming language BASIC for the first microcomputer - the MITS Altair. BASIC was first developed by John Kemeny and Thomas Kurtz at Dartmouth College in the mid-1960s. In his junior year, Gates dropped out of Harvard to fully devote his time to Microsoft, a company he had started in 1975 with his friend Paul Allen. With a belief that the personal computer would be a valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home, they began to develop software for personal computers. ...first Macintosh. Steve Jobs (Noah Wyle) is speaking with director Ridley Scott (J. G. Hertzler), trying to convey his idea that "We're creating a completely new consciousness." Scott, however, is more concerned at the moment with the technical aspects of the commercial. The film then flashes forward to 1997 as Jobs, who has returned to Apple, is announcing a new deal with Microsoft at the 1997 Macworld Expo. His partner, Steve Wozniak (Joey Slotnick), is introduced as one of the two central narrators of the story. Wozniak notes to the audience the resemblance between "Big Brother" and the image of Bill Gates (Anthony Hall) on the screen behind Jobs during this announcement. Asking how they "got from there to here," the film turns to flashbacks of his youth with Jobs, prior to the forming of Apple. The earliest flashback is in 1971 and takes place on the U.C. Berkeley campus during the period of the student anti-war movements. Jobs and Wozniak are shown caught on the campus during a riot between students and police. They flee and after finding safety, Jobs states to Wozniak, "Those guys think they're revolutionaries. They're not revolutionaries, we are." Wozniak then comments that "Steve was never like you or me. He always saw things differently. Even when I was in Berkeley, I would see something and just see kilobytes or circuit boards while he'd see karma or the meaning of the universe." Using a similar structure, the film next turns to a young Bill Gates at Harvard University...

Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs later enhanced the Altair with developments and named it Apple2 . Which boomed the market . Grace Hopper developed COBOL which made it possible for them to advance much easier. More people created applications that made the display more attractive, and more fun. Riding the Bear-With all the computer companies existing in the world, new companies could not really take off. Many of the major companies competed for ownership of the world’s computer users. ...REACTION PAPER (PIRATES OF SILICON VALLEY) Mary grace D. Acero CS-3a The movie “PIRATES OF SILICON VALLEY” is all about how Apple and Microsoft got started. This creation was made because of the two intelligent people: Steve Jobs for Apple and Bill Gates for Microsoft. It shows how the first Apple computer was made which is the Macintosh. The movie is also about how the two intelligent persons compete to each other in order to be a successful or famous. It also shows how a good leader handles his employees or team. Just like with Steve Jobs. He is so abusive to his workers. It just like he is only the good person. He always wants to follow his decisions and not giving chance to listen to the opinions or decisions of his teammates. That’s why he had also a problem when it comes to his family. It is quite opposite to Bill Gates. Because Bill is just a simple man and he used his intelligence in good way. That’s why he succeeds much compared to Steve Jobs and became a wealthiest man in the world. I learned from that negative attitude of Steve Jobs. It teaches me not to be high regard to yourself in whatever achievements you will have. It’s because we cannot conclude what the future will holds, sometimes those who are not considered now might be the one who will succeed more. In everything we do, we should be humble. We should also consider the opinions of others. Their points of view will sometimes help us succeed not only for our own interest but to the whole organization...

Mac vs Pc

...Mac vs. PC Bill Gates: “There may be a few….similarities.” Steve Jobs: “Similarities? Similarities? Try theft.” (from “Pirates of Silicon Valley”) Everyone knows of the popular household names Apple and Microsoft. Apple was started by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. They created the first Apple computer in Jobs’ parents garage in the 1970’s. They knew that they had created something great so they called their company Apple. Bill Gates on the other hand created Microsoft. He never made a computer; what he did was create software and put it on other computers. Allegedly, Bill Gates stole Apple’s Macintosh prototype software from Steve Jobs. Gates only received the prototypes because Jobs thought he could trust Gates, but he was sorely mistaken. These two popular household names are similar, but they have differences such as ability to customize, operating system, price, and virus protection. Apple and Microsoft are alike in they were created at the same time and both had great ideas. Some similarities they share are products such as portable media players and smart phones, tablet devices, and retail stores. They both have portable media players. Apple has the iPod and Microsoft has the Zune. They both do the same thing, but have completely different functions within the device. Zune is all tiled and more cut and dry verses the iPod ,which is sleek, creative, and allows more wiggle room than the Zune. Apple wins over people with the iPhone; it functions just like their iPod...

...organization will be Microsoft and Apple.   In the media lately, we learned Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates, stepped down from the organization.  Generally when organizations make changes, they risk a shift in employees, shareholders, and customers keeping the integrity in the organization.  Microsoft handled the change in leadership wisely.  This was accomplished when the announcement of Bill Gates was stepping down from his leadership position; they quickly announced the step up of his successor, the longtime executive Satya Nadella as its new CEO.  “Knowing which type of change your organization is undergoing is critical to your success.” (Anderson, 2013)  It is important for an organization to develop a correct strategy on how to handle organizational changes in the press.  Microsoft made the transition in its leadership appear effortlessly.   It was ingenious to announce his successor and all her qualifications such as her being a “respected internal candidate to lead the aging technology giant through a period of unprecedented change and challenges to its business”. (Bishop, 2014)  The organization handled the significant change in their leadership accurately in its execution; leaving the brand image and loyalty intact. In contrast to Microsoft, the next biggest technology led organization, Apple went through a significant leadership change when its co-founder Steve Jobs, passed away, whereas Microsoft announced its successor after its co-founder made the choice to step...
