...the religious movement known as “evangelicalism” has been the Reverend Billy Graham. Evangelicalism is a Christian movement that focuses on the need for personal conversion, sharing the gospel, and salvation. Billy Graham is well known for his large evangelistic crusades that draw people by the thousands. These crusades have given Graham the distinction of preaching the gospel, in person, to more people than any other person in history. It is widely believed that over 2 billion people have heard Billy Graham preach the Gospel while more than 2.5 million of them made a public declaration of faith in response (Aikman 53). Evangelism is a very important Biblical task and successful evangelistic campaigns, where people turn to Jesus Christ for salvation, are cause to praise God. So it is natural that many Christians hold Graham in extremely high regard. But one question still remains: is Billy Graham a modern day prophet or is he just one of the most famous preachers that has ever lived? In biblical times the word prophet meant a delegated messenger; someone that delivers the direct word from God. While there is no den William Franklin Graham was born on November 7, 1918 near Charlotte, NC. Graham was not drawn to the Bible instantly. Graham was raised on a dairy farm in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 1943 he married Ruth McCue Bell, daughter of a Christian missionary. In his early years, the Graham family was members of the very conservative Presbyterian Church although...

At the age of sixteen Billy went to a series of revivals done by evangelist Mordecai Ham, which would change his life forever. After hearing Mordecai’s sermon on sin he felt something. ...nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost.” This is what Billy Graham believed, and he stuck to this belief throughout his life. He demonstrated this belief through his actions. In 1952, his salary was only $15,000 because he would take no more from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. He valued his character more than life itself. It was fall, of 1918 when Billy Graham was born to his parents: William and Morrow Graham. He had three other siblings whose names were Jean, Catherine, and Melvin. They lived on a dairy farm and were Calvinists growing up. When he was in elementary school, his grandma died and that started a sprout of faith that has stayed in their family since. He said that she sat up and said, “I see Jesus.” This strengthened the whole family’s faith....

...2009 Men after God’s Own Heart Franklin Graham, son of Billy graham, wrote Rebel with a Cause an autobiography about his life as a well known evangelist’s son and how difficult it was growing up in his shadow. In the early stages of his life Franklin was considered “The Rebel” of the family, not wanting much more in life than guns, alcohol and Rock ‘n’ Roll. After many sinful years Franklin turned his life over to The Lord and pursed to follow in his father’s footsteps. Billy Graham is a world renowned spiritual leader dedicated to American Christian Evangelism. He is father of five children (Virginia, Anne, Ruth, Franklin, and Ned Graham) and also dedicated husband to Ruth Graham (Back bone of the Graham family). Billy Graham has raised his family in the mountains of North Carolina, a small town fifteen minutes from Asheville called Montreat, a small town fifteen minutes from Asheville (Graham 2). Most importantly, he is a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Billy Graham has given his life for the purpose of teaching the Word of God too many lost countries around the world. Since graduating from Wheaton College, his first major success was as a traveling evangelist for Youth for Christ (YFC), which was founded in 1941 (Eskridge 85). ...the audience you must sort of “time-travel” and imagine yourself in that time period. Billy Graham states that this is not the only technological revolution that America, let alone the world has featured. Billy Graham gives a biblical example of such a technological revolution with the reference to King David of Israel. King David had virtues of strong leadership, he was a good poet, a great philosopher, a great writer, thing in terms made Israel one of the strongest nations in the East. Now to the comparison between the technologies of today (1998) and then, Billy compares the microchip of today the discovery of iron. Billy then explains how there are 3 problems that neither human nor technology can solve. 1. Human Evil, such as racism, violence, injustice. Many philosophers including Jesus Christ says that evil lies in the heart. Problems that separate us between God. 2. Suffering, the truth that every person in this world has some sort of problem or worry in their life. 3. Death, everyone will one day die. The only problem is how can one live their life and not regret what one did or didn’t do when lying on his or her death bed. The question for all these un-solvable problems is, can technology solve all of these troubles? Analysis I think this argument doesn’t need an approval or disapproval; it stands strong without an opinion. I greatly love the points that Minister Graham has explained especially from his “Christian” perspective. I really enjoyed this TEDTalks...

...Marketing as a Christian and a Christian-based company requires as all acts we venture to do a large amount of integrity. This week as we lost Billy Graham, one of the most common things I have read is how much of a man of integrity he was in his work and in his life. For this reason, Mr. Graham is an excellent example to loom up to. While a Christian is called to holiness, there are some products that will legitimately make our lives better and give us the help we need. Therefore, it is good to have a variety of products to choose from. And the benefit of the product does not have to stop at purchase. Toms is a company that, when someone buys a pair of shoes, they are paying for another pair of shoes that will be given to someone in poverty....

...Book Review of Nearing Home by Billy Graham Book Review of Nearing Home by Billy Graham When I think of the impressions elderly people leave with me, I think of people with strength that have lived through all of life’s trials. Though they may not seem strong now, they once were. The elderly can be on either end of the spectrum or in between when looking at their health holistically. Each variable of their health can be strength or a stressor. Developmentally elderly can view their life and be satisfied with their past and what this life has become or they can view it as a number of misfortunes. Psychosocially elderly have either lived a life with family and a significant other or they could be alone. Culturally the elderly have developed a way of life through the food they eat, the language they speak and the religion they do, or, do not practice. Sometimes an elderly person’s culture has made them unhealthy yet on the other end their culture has been a source of health. Physiological aspects of the elderly are usually in a declined state related to the normal stages of aging. The severity of this depends on whether they practice a healthy lifestyle or not. Sometimes the elderly are predisposed to physical ailments and this can also affect how healthy they are physically. When thinking about the elderly and their spirituality, I always seem to think that they have lived a life strong in their faith to God. This would be one of the reasons they have lived a long...

...couple of names: Billy Woodward and William Jacob Woodward. Those two names symbolize the two sides he has as a ‘white’ aboriginal. When he is the ‘son of his parents’ and when he talks to other aboriginals, he’s called Billy. When he’s among white people, being a regular teenager in Britain, he goes by the name William Jacob. At 18 years of age, he gets picked up by a big football team and moves away from home. Besides football, he also likes painting pictures and is very good at it. He tries to live like a white man, even though he is black, repressing his past. From time to time he stumbles into some aboriginal family of his, and is being very ashamed of them. He thinks that they are all drunken and disgusting individuals. Even though he looks at his people with revulsion, he wants to go home and visit his family for his twenty-first birthday. He expects them to celebrate him, though he hasn’t been home for three years. He didn’t even come home when his father died in an accident. Billys’ family lives far away from the city in an old aboriginal-camp. When the day arrives, he drives out to the old camp in his new fancy car. He had sold some pictures to afford this car. He picks up Darcy, an aboriginal-man, on the way out there, whom he spent the rest of the trip with. When finally he arrives at his family’s’ camp, not all of them are happy to see him. Carlton and Rennie, his brother and cousin, greet him very politely and are happy to see him. Rennie gives Billy a nice gold watch...

...Some like it Hot & Director Billy Wilder Some like it hot is a movie set in the late 1920’s about two broke musicians played by Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon living in Chicago who accidently witness the Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre and need to get far away from the gangsters who want to kill them since they are the only witnesses to the murders. The musicians decide their only chance of survival is to dress up like girls and join an all women’s jazz band en-route to Florida to get away from the mob. During the train ride they meet and get to know the other members of the band especially the main singer, sweet “Sugar Kane” played by the lead actress Marilyn Monroe. The musicians form a little crush on Sugar and all hilarity ensues. ...The character I have chosen is Holly Golightly, from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. This has been my all time favorite movie. In the movie, Audrey Hepburn plays a female character that is very spontaneous and spunky. I feel that throughout the movie she shows to be an extraversion. She meets a neighbor who is amazed how she talks and lives her life. She throws a party in her apartment and is very sociable and seems to be star of the show. Holly comes off to other people as very friendly and affectionate. Throughout the movie, the neighbor “Fred” finds out that deep down she has a lot of problems. He finds her to be in the neuroticism category. She is nervous about her past and she is insecure of herself. Holly feels the need to sneak up to her neighbor’s apartment because she is lonely. As soon as he asks her why she is crying, she becomes high strung and a bit upset. Holly and “Fred” go out into New York City and have a fun day together. They pick original things for them to do and some are creative. At this point in the movie I feel as though she falls into the openness to experience category. She has a great imagination in which “Fred” points out and is attracted to. Towards the end of the movie, Holly’s former husband comes to find her. When she finds out he is in New York, she becomes nervous again. I feel as though at this point she is in the agreeableness category. She agrees to go back with him and is forgiving. She seems to be soft hearted to her former husband. Then...

...Mohannad Zawi Mr. Mackay ENG-4U0 October 31st, 2011. The Fight for Survival Can Truly Lead People to Do Things They Wouldn’t Do When it comes to The Road by Cormac McCarthy & Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, it takes a lot to compare the two. Can these classic literary novels truly be compared? Luckily, you will find just how much they can be compared as you read this essay. In order to consider just how similar these 2 books are, consider the following: The main characters of their respective books ultimately aim to survive their landscapes, both of the main characters are on a journey for the betterment of their lives, and both of these novels portray similar themes. While one book has a seemingly miniscule cast and the other a large ensemble of roving buccaneers, they still manage to be comparable, and through their similarities a better experience is enjoyed for fans of the books. Both main characters of their respective books ultimately aim to survive by dealing with harsh environments. We understand that The Man from The Road has to deal with a barren, apocalyptic wasteland, and with this situation he uses his knowledge & wits to survive this harsh environment, for example, he carves makeshift bullets out of wood in order to scare off attackers: “While the boy slept he sat on the bunk and by the light of the lantern he whittled fake bullets from a tree branch with his knife, fitting them carefully into the empty bores of the cylinder and then whittling...

...moving into the world. However, with self-determination and the support of others it can potentially lead to a positive outcome. Stephan Daldrys film Billy Elliot (2000) explores these notions and highlights the importance of rising above circumstances and embracing the support of others by enduring such experiences in order to succeed in the transition of moving into the world. The film reveals how individual determination and strength is often required to transition from one world to another, also exploring the idea of how transitioning into another world can be daunting and unexpected for the individual whom is making the change and that everyone's world is different and needs to be accepted. Firstly the film explores the notion of how individual determination and strength is often required to transition from one world to another, this idea is reflected throughout the 'private lessons and rising tensions' scene. In this particular scene billy and his ballet teacher Mrs Wilkinson are both equally committed, consistent and also remain perseverant regardless of the circumstances in which they find themselves. We see that Billy embraces the support of others and in turn, is on the road to potential success. As billy enters the hall, a high angle shot of him is used representing his powerless emotion. The shot reveals vulnerable billy, as he has not yet embraced the support he has been given. Also soft, mysterious music begins to play in the background, as the lights dim. This signifies...
