...experiments, sporting activities, art and acting is a great way to put this style to good use, listening to music while learning or studying may help put this learning style to great use. This was the highest style I scored in, while the others had maybe three of four checks in their area. 2. When I was in Biology, we had to learn the bones and muscles in the human body for the semester final. Well when I went home after school, I had started to watch Hannah Montana, a teen show on Disney Channel. The episode happened to be the one where Hannah had to learn the same thing, so while she was singing “The Bone Song” she made; I had done some research on the lyrics. Well when the test came up in the next couple weeks, I quietly started to sing my version of the song. 3. Highlight textbooks and notes, create movies in your mind, create visual study tools, visualize pictures, charts, and diagrams, Edit your lecture notes, color code your notes and study sheets. I think these benefit me because, I really noticed that I learn with color, like my colored pens for different classes, say that when I’m in English 228, ill use my black pen to take notes, but when im in my Biology 111, ill use my blue pen. I tend to retain the info given, because ill remember the color. 4. Write word and question cards, Write self-test questions, Write questions in the margin and underline the answers is what I should work on because I very rarely do that. I study yes, but maybe this will help me...

...WELCOME TO BIOLOGY On a note card make a name card for yourself, and make a name placard, with markers. Place them both on your table in front of you. Set up a Biology Folder in your “Documents” Save this file in your Biology folder in your Documents as a reference. If you are in this class you: Enjoy and/or are good in science classes, Are probably college bound and/or going to take advanced science classes. Because of this, I have higher expectations of you than in a more general class. As a Biology student: You have maturity, self-control and work well independently. The amount of effort you put into Biology will be equal to the amount of success that you have. I will try to treat you like a young adult with respect, and I expect the same from you in return. I have one simple rule that everyone will follow: BEHAVE SO THAT BOTH YOU AND YOUR CLASSMATES CAN LEARN There are 3 things that I do not believe in: Fairness, Failure and Homework! Do not expect any of these in this class. I will grade on the following scale: 90 – 100%….A 80 – 89%…...B 70 – 79% ......C 60 – 69%.......D Mastery Learning I don’t want to take work below the 80% level, which I consider Mastery. This means that everyone should make an A or B in this class. Mastery Learning practitioners understand that people work and learn at different rates. This is normal and perfectly acceptable. You must repeat work that isn’t at the...

The study was conducted through an ex-post facto design. A total of ten secondary schools were sampled. Target respondents were Form Three students and teachers of Biology (those teaching Form Three) within the municipality. The study sample (which was made up of 225 respondents; 200 students and 25 teachers) was obtained using stratified sampling. Simple random sampling was then used to choose the streams and particular students who participated in the study. Purposive sampling was used to obtain only the students who study Biology. The data was collected using questionnaires, observations and interviews and analysed using statistical package for social science (SPSS) computer programme. The results were presented using descriptive and inferential statistics. It was established that student-related factors affecting performance of Biology in Eldoret Municipality are: primary school Science which provides a requisite background for Biology at secondary school level; interest in Biology (theory and practical) provides...

...examination if the correct strategies and study skills are used. Studying effectively does not depend so much on how long one spends with book and notes but how effectively one has been studying. One of the most important recipes for success in examination is to study regularly and consistently. After all ‘Rome was not built in a day’. It is necessary, therefore to draw up a timetable with time set aside for recreation, exercise or television. Equally important is the discipline to stick to the period timetable. Without a study plan or timetable, some subject me be inadequate focus and attention. Another factor that is crucial for examination success is the need to do homework and assignments. Homework and assignments reinforce learning and helps students to identify what they do not know so that remedial work can be done immediately. In addition, homework helps students to practice and reinforce classroom learning. Preparing mind maps is another study skills that can be used to make learning more effective and more meaningful. For subject with a lot of content matter such as History and Biology, mind maps are essential for various reasons. For one, mind maps helps students to focus on the important elements as well as to see relationship between the element more clearly. Next, mind maps are useful tools for revision because the mind can see and remember more easily if ideas and concepts are presented in pictures and...

GAÑALONGO February 06, 2012 CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction The world today is experiencing a rapid change in almost all fields of endeavour. Science has brought many changes in people’s lifestyle. It’s difficult if not impossible to live today and not experience the results of science investigations. Everyday occurrences such as hearing the weather forecast, watching television, talking on the telephone, and flying through the air are made possible through science. These are handiworks of scientists and proofs that science has become highly important in our lives and continue to change our lives and lead us to progress. The center of any educative process is the learner. Since it is the task of the teacher to guide the students’ learning...

...into dialogues (“Aristotle”). His school was widely known as the walking school or the Peripatetic school because a lot of the discussion at the school took place while walking the grounds (“Encarta: Aristotle”). He taught the young conqueror Alexander, who became Alexander the Great, and thereafter his writings were lost and not recovered until the 1st century B.C. During the middle ages they were translated into Latin and Arabic and became a basis for Christian theology. In 2000 years no one has came close to his brilliance except for Leonardo Da Vinci (Cunningham, Lawrence and Reich p.81). Aristotle is most famous for his detailed work about the physical world and nature, in which, a lot of his findings are used in modern day biology (“Aristotle: Philosopher”). He is most famous for his view on ethics. For his son, Nicomachus he named his book on ethics the Nicomachean Ethics (“Encarta: Aristotle”)....

...My Personal Take on Psychology Christopher M. Hart Johnson and Wales University Author Note [Include any grant/funding information and a complete correspondence address.] Abstract This paper explores my personal experience and take on psychology. It starts with what I believed psychology was before starting the class, to what I learned in the class. All the way from the components of the brain and what they do; to behaviors are linked to the brain. Psychology is an interesting topic in today’s world and not many people think about it. Without psychology we would never understand how people work, think, and act in today’s world. Keywords: Psychology, Brain, Behavior, My Personal Take on Psychology Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behavior in a given context. (Psychology) When I think of psychology the first thing that comes to mind is the brain, and how it works. There is more to psychology than most people think. I learned more and more about psychology over the course of this trimester. What I Thought Psychology Was Before I started...

...2010). It then attributes behavior to these characteristics (Westmont.edu, 2002). Many previous theorists had looked at subconscious thoughts as motivation for human personality and behavior. Dispositional theory does not dismiss the sub-conscious, but focuses on the individual and conscious thought as the center of personality (Westmont.edu, 2002). It centers on humans having free will to determine their future (Fesit et al, 2013). Biological psychology theories are based on what many others theorists denied, that is, that personality and behavior are affected by biology (Feist, Fesit, & Roberts, 2013). Biological aspects of psychology come in a number of forms, everything from genetics to physiology and structure (Wilderdom, com, 2005). The biological theory introduced by Hans Eysenck introduced included not only psychometric ideas but biological as well (Feist, et al, 2013). Biological theories do not deny the mind as a source of behavior but includes the body...

...Module 13 Notes Our Divided Brain • We have known for over 100 years that despite looking alike, each side of the brain has different purposes. -Research collected over this century (about damage to the left hemisphere) proved this hemisphere was for reading, speaking, writing, reasoning, math, etc. -Around 1960, it was discovered that the right hemisphere had its own unique functions. • In 1961, patients suffering from severe epileptic seizures had their corpus callosum (which links both brain hemispheres) cut. Their seizures stopped. • Afterwards, these patients with split brains were experimented on, their personality and intellect were surprisingly unaffected. • One of these experiments involved the phrase "HE.ART" being flashed at them, with the dot being at the center of their vision (therefore "HE" went to the right brain and "ART" went to the left brain). -When the patients were asked what they saw, they said "ART" (using the left brain) but pointed to "HE" (using the right brain). [pic][pic][pic] • As evidenced by this experiment, after split-brain surgery, the two brain hemispheres have different functions. -They struggle to communicate with each other and often think different things. __________________________________________________________________ Right-Left Differences in the Intact Brain • People who have their corpus callosum intact have hemispheres that instantly communicate with...
