Birth Control Pill Effects

Women should be able to choose if they want to become parents or not. They should also

be able to choose if they want to take birth control or not. But nowadays people take birth

control over the smallest issues not even related to “birth control”. Weak hair, take some

birth control. Breaking out, take some birth control. Don’t want your period, take birth

control. One of the most dangerous effects of any kind of birth control is blood clots.

Birth control can cause breast cancer. It is not confirmed but people who have been more

exposed to medications like birth control have a higher risk of getting it. Benefits of birth

control would be, have a regular and lighter period, less cramps, and a lower risk for

ovarian and endometrial cancer.

Negative effects of birth control would be a higher risk of getting a heart disease, and

high blood pressure. Minor side effects are nausea, headaches, sore breasts, weight gain,

weight loss, irregular bleeding, and depression. Not every woman’s body reacts the same

way to each medication. Some people may have no side effects at all, whereas some

people’s side effects would be very severe. Most minor side effects fade, or go away

completely after you take the medication regularly for a couple months.

The pill is very easy to access for most people nowadays. Back then birth control was

used to prevent pregnancies, and control menstrual cramps. You can get birth control as

early as the age of 11. You can get it for non-period related issues. It is not very costly if

you have proper insurance.

Bottom line is, birth control is not good for you. You may not see the effects today, but

the more you take it, the more it harms your body. In the long run, you have a higher risk

of developing cancer, and blood clots. And short term effects could wear you out also.

Unless you have a severe condition birth control shouldn’t be used. It’s a medication, not

a candy.

Birth Control Effects

...Birth control creates negative effects for humanity in an endless amount of ways. The movement for the drug’s use was started by Margaret Sanger in 1922 ("Margaret Louisa Higgins Sanger" para. 7). It grew in popularity during the 1960s when it received Federal Drug Administration approval. Today, around sixty-two percent of women around the world use birth control ("Contraceptive Use in the United States"). What women fail to realize is how much the medication deteriorates their way of living. The consumption of birth control negatively impinges on the quality of one’s mind and body. Without being aware of it effects, women use birth control for many reasons. The most popular reason is to prevent pregnancy while continuing to be sexually...

Effects of Birth Control on Women's Lives

...The Effects of Birth Control on Women’s Lives On May 9, 1960, the Food and Drug Administration approved a drug that would revolutionize women’s lives. The life changing drug was an oral contraceptive, commonly known as “the Pill,” that would prevent pregnancy if taken correctly. Several other birth-control methods have been developed in the past ten years that are just as effective. Birth control has had effects on women’s mental, physical and social lives since its debut in the United States fifty years ago. One of the most researched drugs is the birth control pill. A great deal of information has arisen to improve the drug but there is one aspect that has not been studied as thoroughly, its effect on mood. The least publicized mental effect of the pill is that many women developed depression, until recently. There has not been any direct proof to back up the statement that hormonal contraceptives are the cause. Enovid, the first birth control on the market in the 1960’s, acknowledged in their packaging that there were cases where psychic depression occurred, but also declared that the relationship between the two were not clear. This is the only identified mental side effect that is thought to be associated with birth control. There are several physical effects that birth control has on women’s lives. The medical side-effects are commonly known because of commercials. These side effects include nausea, headaches and possible blood clots. The pill...

Pros And Cons Of Birth Control Essay

...Today, American women use multiple different types of birth control methods. In 2011, forty-five percent of pregnancies were unintended ("Unintended Pregnancy"). In other words, that is almost half of all pregnancies. These unintended pregnancies are a huge reason as to why many women make the decision to use birth control. Some of the most common types of birth control (birth control pills, intrauterine devices, abstinence, and tubal ligation) are methods prescribed or suggested by a woman's health care provider. Each birth control method has a negative side effect but they all assist in preventing pregnancy and offer other health benefits as well (SP3). For example, birth control pills may cause heart attacks, but they also help prevent pregnancy and acne ("The Pill"). Although birth control can have negative side effects, it has health benefits that outweigh the risks....

...Birth control pills can be up to 99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy, according to the American Pregnancy Association. Despite this and other advantages of using the pill, many women still worry about the potential risks of using it as birth control. While it is true that the pill has been improved and refined throughout the years to minimize these risks, there are still potential drawbacks in using this medication. Women who are considering using the birth control pill should carefully weigh the pros and cons before using it. Types Many types of birth control pills are available. Monophasic birth control pills contain active pills with equal amounts of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. This type of pill may cause fewer mood changes, according to Drugs.com. Multiphasic birth control pills will contain varying amounts of hormones based upon the cycle date the pill will be taken. Since this mimics a woman's natural menstrual cycle, it may prevent unwelcome physical side effects. Progesterone-only pills only contain the hormone progesterone, which makes them a good option for those that can not take estrogren. Finally, extended-cycle birth control pills are taken for a longer period and eliminate the need for monthly menstruation. Yaz Birth Control News October 2012 Update. Free legal consultation. Explain 3 World Arguments for Birth Control and 2 Against Birth Control

...Explain three world arguments for birth control and two world arguments against birth control. For: 1) The world population is growing at a rapid speed and while America may not yet feel the impact of the earth’s overpopulation, many other countries are losing resources and lack basic needs (Gonsalves, J 2005). The world is now home to seven billion people . Not only would birth control help to slow the population growth rate, but it can also help to prevent the high rate for infant deaths (Miller et al 2012). Less than 5 percent of people in most countries in Africa use contraceptives (Rengel, M 2000). If this number was higher and more people were aware of the benefits of birth control, and it was accessible to them, it would help everyone and the planet overall (Rengel, M 2000). 2) It is only reasonable to accept that birth control is not merely a matter of morals, but also of ethics (Steinbock, B 2011). It may be immoral to prevent conception, but it is unethical to willingly allow ourselves to cause unwanted pregnancies that will result in more destitution. 3) As a counterpoint to the second anti-birth control argument, developing a market for contraceptives may in fact reduce the number of women victimized by those who want them to be sterile (Gordon, L 2002). Contraceptive methods have not caused a decrease, but rather an increase, in the sexual freedoms of women in developed and developing countries alike (Lysaught et al 2012). If women are able to use contraception...

Birth Control

...All women and men should have control over if and when they become parents. Making decisions about birth control, or contraception is not easy - there are many things to think about. Learning about birth control methods you or your partner can use to prevent pregnancy and talking with your health care provider are two good ways to get started. There is no "best" method of birth control. Each method has its own pros and cons. Some methods work better than others do at preventing pregnancy. The birth control method you choose should take into account: your overall health, how often you have sex, the number of sexual partners you have, if you want to have children, how well each method works, any potential side effects, and your comfort level with using the method. Let’s take a look at Contraceptive Pill. It was invented in 1960 and led to a revolution in the history of contraception by enabling women to control their menstrual cycle. Some fifty years later, after many new inventions were added to the list of contraception methods, the pill remains the main form of female contraception. The advantages of using the Pill is that: It’s very effective against pregnancy if used correctly, menstrual periods are more regular and lighter, it decreases menstrual cramps and acne, you are less likely to get ovarian and uterine cancer, pelvic inflammatory disease, ovarian cysts, and anemia. And it doesn’t interrupt lovemaking. The disadvantages of using the Pill are the cost or...

Argumentative Essay: The Birth Control Pill

...“In the United States, over ten million women use oral contraceptives, or birth control pills” (“Topic Overview: Birth Control”). The birth control pill is becoming more available. In a couple of states, it is available without a prescription. There is a debate going on about whether it should be provided to teenagers or not. The birth control pill can be the cause of negative side effects, can be used as a contraceptive, and to help with things other than be used as a contraceptive. The birth control pill can cause some negative side effects. Some side effects are more common, and some are very rare. “"Hormonal birth control is not without risk," Daniels says, who adds that she thinks over-the-counter birth control, available without a physician's oversight, is "ridiculous""(Watts). She says this because, you should have a physician look over you and your family history to see if you would have problems with the medication. Some patients have trouble with nausea, fatigue, mood changes, and blood clots. Other common side effects are bleeding and breast tenderness. A few people, in rare...

...Current birth control methods: There are three kinds of basic methods that are popular recently. However there is no "best" method of birth control. Each method has its pros and cons. The first one called Barrier methods which are female and male condom. Female condom is a thin protective layer worn by a woman during sex. It entirely lines the vagina and helps to prevent pregnancy. (Birth control methods fact sheet, 2011) However the problem is that it would cause some side effects like irritation and allergic reactions. (Snowdon, 2009) To compare, male condom has lower risks of side effects and also it is the only birth control method proven to help protect from Sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. Male Birthpill

...|   |   |   |   | Blog Male birth control pill moves a step closer16th August 2012Researchers have finally found a compound that may offer the first effective and hormone-free birth control pill for men.The study, published today in the journal Cell, describes how the small molecule makes male mice reversibly infertile, without putting a damper on their sex drive. When the animals stop taking this new form of birth control, their sperm rebound and they are able to produce perfectly healthy offspring once again."This compound produces a rapid and reversible decrease in sperm count and motility with profound effects on fertility," said James Bradner of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and lead author of the study.A male birth control pill has been difficult to come by, in large part because of the challenge of getting any drug across the blood:testis barrier, where it can reach the sperm-generating cells. That lack of contraceptive alternatives for men is partially responsible for the high rate of unplanned pregnancies. Despite the unsatisfactory options for male contraception, nearly one-third of couples rely on male-directed birth control methods.Known as JQ1, the new compound developed in the Bradner lab works by targeting a testis-specific protein called BRDT that is essential for fertility. When mice are given the BRDT-inhibiting molecule, they begin producing fewer sperm and those sperm they do produce don't swim as well."This is a good reason to get excited about low sperm...

Efftect of Contraceptions

...[from Womanity, 1994] Device Failure One disadvantage of contraception is that the devices used to prevent pregnancy can sometimes fail either by manufacturer error or by the user not following the directions properly. For example, condoms can break if they are past their use dates or if user errors, such as using petroleum jelly as a lubricant or wearing two condoms at once, occur. The birth control pill becomes less effective when you miss a pill or do not take them as prescribed. Allergic Reaction Some forms of contraception can cause severe allergic reactions, making them dangerous for some consumers. For example, many condoms are made from rubber latex, which can cause swelling, rashes or even anaphylaxis when they come into contact with someone who is allergic to the material. To combat these reactions, condoms now are available in alternative materials such as polyisoprene or polyurethane. Side Effects Another disadvantage for contraception are the side effects that some forms of birth control have on women. For example, the birth control pill can cause some women to experience side effects including breast tenderness, nausea, loss of sexual desire, bleeding between periods and vomiting. Rare, but serious,...

...fifteen year olds, 24 sixteen year olds and 32 seventeen years olds who give birth. These children are 18% more likely to delay receiving prenatal care and 16% have preterm labor, while 10% of the babies are in the low birth weight category (Teen Birth Fact Sheets, 2011 pg 1-2). Each school district has a health curriculum, which includes sexuality beginning in the 5th grade. The curriculum based on the core values of abstinence is the focus. What the facts are showing is that this type of program is not working. There needs to be an agenda that gives these teens all the facts. Many say that is the parent’s right, but when they do not do their job then it becomes society’s burden. This state and country for that matter, needs to create a new generation who will not have any babies before they are grown themselves. Full facts based, no holds barred curriculum beginning in the 6th grade, which speaks about the traditional topics that your body does in puberty, and then goes further as they continue through school is the goal. Children need to know where babies come from and how not to have one until you are ready. The use of a comprehensive sex education program and giving menstruating girls long-term birth control will stop teen pregnancy in Texas. Each year there are more than 23,000 babies born to teen mothers. "Texas has the third highest rate of teen births and the highest rate of repeat births among 15-19 year olds in the United States,” according to Daniel Alpiger, a senior...

Of the many controversies that have affected the United States in the past 100 years, birth control devices have been one of the more significant. Some common birth control devices are male and female condoms and the birth control pill. Both of these devices protect against pregnancy and the male and female condoms protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and HIV. This arouses the question should teenagers be allowed to obtain these devices without parental consent. The answer is yes. Teenagers should be able to obtain birth control devices without their parents’ permission. There are countless reasons why birth control devices should be available to everyone. Among these reasons are the number and effects of teenage pregnancy, the right to privacy and living a disease free life. Every 31 seconds a teenager is reported pregnant and approximately 70 percent do not receive the proper care they need. When a teenager becomes pregnant a lot of problems follow soon after. Essay On Birth Control Over The Counter

...Although some professionals disagree, birth control should be made available over the counter. The Americans College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists say “that over-the-counter birth control is a positive thing because around 50% of all pregnancies are unplanned, and ready access to contraceptives does not pose any health risks. So, consulting your doctor for a prescription isn’t vital.” It would decrease unplanned pregnancies, also it allows people below the poverty level to obtain birth control without doctor office fees, and will decrease abortions among teens.
