Ebonics is usually associate with Africa, America; from low poor area where there are little or none education. The Oakland school board case was the first time I heard of the term Ebonics. The way I spoke had a name and was recognized by the other. When the news of Ebonics being taught in some California school system some people were for it and some weren’t against it. In my opinion, most of the people did not have the history of Ebonics or understanding. Rather if you were for it or against it by recognizing and doing the research on the subject of Black English you had to come to some forms of understand why minority use Ebonics and where does Ebonics come from. Jean Wofford complained that “black children continue to be subjected to teachers who label the Ebonics system as bad, substandard, incorrect, impoverished, deprived, and non-language.” Jean Wofford also said, “Suggests that their total linguistic resources are greater that of monolingual white children.” When I was growing up, my mother would correct my English when I would say phrase like “I don’t got.” I was not taught that the way I spoke was wrong but that it was improper English.
