If you are using a linksys router of any model number in a DSL connection, make sure you know if you have a user name and password provided by your ISP not only for your email account but for your dsl connection to work. I have here 10 simple steps for you to follow in configuring your router to work with your dsl modem. Do NOT run the cd since this is a manual configuration. Make sure you have a working Internet when directly wired to your DSL modem before attempting to configure the router.
1. Reset the router first (while the router is ON, press the reset button at the back using a pen or any sharp object for 10 seconds then release the reset button). Unplug the power cord for 5 seconds and replug it back in. Wait for the power light to go steady before proceeding to the next step.
2. Connect your modem to the Internet Port of your router (make sure that it is only the router that’s connected to the modem and nothing else). Connect your computer to any of the numbered ports of the router. Check the corresponding lights of those ports, they are supposed to lit up.
3. On your computer, launch a browser. On the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and hit the enter key. A user name and password window will appear. Leave the user name blank and by default password isadmin.
4. Under the SETUP tab, for the Internet Connection Type, click the drop down arrow and selectPPPoE. Type in your user name (in email format i.e. username@isp.net/com) and then your password both from your ISP. Make sure to set it to Keep Alive Redial period 30 sec. Leave the rest as it is then SAVE the settings.
5. Go to the STATUS tab check the status if it is Connected, if not click on the “Connect” button. If you are connected proceed to step number 7 to configure the wireless settings but if it gives you the message “Cannot get an IP from the PPPoE Server” or “Cannot connect to PPPoE Server”
