Guardian of the Llano
The Doctor, from Doctor Who, is an alien who protects the earth and the occupants on it from alien threats. From the moment Castiel “raised Dean from perdition”, he became the Winchester’s guardian angel in the CW show, Supernatural. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and her gang of “Scoobies” guard and protect the people in the “hellmouth” that is Sunnydale. And on BBC’s Merlin, Merlin spends his life protecting Arthur from enemies that wish to harm him. Throughout all forms of media, guardian figures are present. They give whoever they are protecting a sense of security and hope. In Rudolfo Anaya's book, Bless Me Ultima, he introduces a character who takes on the role of the guardian figure. On multiple occasions Ultima displays wisdom, that allows her to become a guardian figure. As Ultima and Antonio are walking around the llano, Antonio is asking questions about Ultima's knowledge:“‘But I want to know, there are so many things I want to know,’ I insisted. ‘A curandera cannot give away her secrets,’she said, ‘but if a person really wants to know, then he will listen and see and be patient. Knowledge comes slowly--.’”(Anaya, 33-34)Antonio wants answers to the universe. He wants to learn so much and has no patience to wait. Ultima on the other hand, she has been around for a long time. She knows many things and is wise enough not to share all of her secrets at once. She will share her secrets, but she needs him to learn for himself. That is what she means by knowledge comes slowly. Ultima has great knowledge and she knows when to use her knowledge making her wise. Her wisdom makes her job as family guardian easier. It allows her to realize how she needs to protect the family. Another way she used her wisdom to her advantage as guardian is when Uncle Lucas was sick. As Ultima is asked to cure Uncle Lucas, She understands that anyone who "tampers with the fate of a man" can
