Christina Martin Country Hobbies

Good afternoon, I am Christina Martin. Who is a proud mother of a Mixed Martial Artist, Patrick Trey Jordan. I grew up in the small country town of Andrews, South Carolina, near Black River. I to this day I still live here and would not change it for anything. Most of you that are familiar with Andrews would also know that I am a country girl at heart. The reason for this is simple fact when I was growing up we didn’t run to malls or a fast food drive thru like today. We ate home cooked meals, which meant more exercise to burn off that fat. Our excitement wasn’t going to the mall or movies. It was simply just running and jumping in the river. I didn’t have girly things to do or even girls to play with. I was the only little girl running wild with my cousins and friends, which were all mostly pure down home country boys. That’s where I picked up the hobbies I enjoy to this day and share with my son and boyfriend Rodney Pitts. Those hobbies would be “Sunday Fun Day”, MMA, which stands for Mixed Martial Arts, and also making all sorts of crafts. Your wondering now what is Sunday Fun Day. Well let me take a minute to explain how that came about and is the most exciting hobby I have and share with my family. Growing up in the country my nanny always had Sunday dinner cooked. I can almost smell and taste it now. She cooked that soul food as some call it. Every Sunday we would gather and stuff ourselves. I use to love dessert but my mom wouldn’t let us even taste it if our plates were not cleaned. I can still remember sitting on the counter while nanny stirred the batter for her pound cake or that yummy red velvet cake. When our dinner was over we would all run down to the river and jump in. Now that I am older and have family of my own, which are my two boys Rodney and Patrick. Sometimes we have a visit from Haley, that’s Rodney’s daughter, I enjoy sharing my childhood hobby with them. My son and Rodney nicked named that hobby of cooking and river time “Sunday Fun Day.” So now you all know what Sunday Fun Day means. Unfortunately that day can’t be everyday, you know we all have to make a living for ourselves. Seems I am always on the go, and yeah my nanny would get on me and tell me to slow down baby that fast life and fast food will make you old. So that’s why I have to take time out my busy life for MMA, and the gym. My son is 9 years old and has a green belt in Jutizu mixed martial arts. We have traveled to national championships with people from all over the world there. I have met the man that trained Walker Texas Ranger. My son has gold and silver medals he has won or should I say earned. The class teaches respect for self and others, also manners and patience and self defense. My other man is a gym freak. Any of you that known Rodney knows that man eats sleeps and breaths gym. He is my muscle man if I must say. My son named him Superman. So between MMA and Gym that’s a good hobby I have to burn off the fat from Sunday Fun Day. When I am alone I unwind by doing crafts. I do all sorts of things from crochet to candle making. I learned from the best, my wonderful mother. I use to sit beside her as a child and watch. I always said I want to be like that. So that’s the hobby I took up and enjoy. Crafts would be my most relaxing hobby. When I am alone it helps by taking the stress of the busy life and running to keep up with the MMA and super fit superman. I make all sorts of scarf’s, blankets, hats, and baby things. When I am not crocheting I am candle making. I make homemade candles and wax tarts. The smells and aroma just takes you away to that special place you can find serenity. I do believe I need that being that I live with two wild country boys. One that can twist a finger to flip you and other that thinks he can use you as a bench press. So this hobby is my alone time to think concentrate and make beautiful things. Growing up in the country has led me to experience many different things, and also to share my experience with my family. The excitement of Sunday fun day, MMA and gym, and crafts has and will always be a pleasure and part of my life too shares as hobbies. From growing up in country to now living and having my own family in the country is a blessing. And I will always, no matter how old I am will enjoy these hobbies of Sunday Fun Day, MMA/gym, and crafts. Now doesn’t that make you want to come to the country and pick up some interest or hobbies too? Thanks everyone for your attention and listening to my experiences and hobbies. OUTLINE

10 Simple Way Improve English

...10 SIMPLE WAY IMPROVE ENGLISH 1. This is what most people would advise: read. Read anything and everything in English. You can read story books, newspapers, magazines, blogs, comics, English textbooks, instructions and ingredients on food packages, advertisements, etc. For story books, don’t force yourself to read something too difficult or something you know you won’t enjoy. Make reading fun! Read books that you ENJOY reading. I hate to read books that bore me too. 2. Watch English movies with subtitles. This would be my favorite way of learning English. Not only do I get to have a fun time watching the movie, I’d be learning new words at the same time and knowing how to pronounce them! Usually, you can get movies with English subtitles on DVDs. 3. Listen to English songs. Read the lyrics as you listen to the songs. Listen to your favorite songs and sing along to them. 4. Start a blog in English. This is one way for you to practice your writing. Blog on something that you love. If you are a fan of movies, start a blog and write about your favorite movies, your favorite characters, what you think could be improved in the movie, what new movies to expect next year, etc. Besides blogging, try joining online forums; engage in online chatting and more. 5. If you don’t want to maintain a blog, why not write to a pen pal? It’d be even more fun to have a pen pal from a different country! I used to write to other people from the US, Germany, Mexico, and even Yugoslavia. I remember...

English X

...English-X Jennifer Lee’s article titled I Think, Therefore IM describes the effects of “Internet English” “jumping from the realm of teenage online socialization of chat rooms and email into school work” (Lee 160). Lee begins by giving the reader examples of new “short hands” used in today’s everyday writings ,such as single letters u, r and c, or signs such as the “@” symbol, to replace their “Webster” oriented full spellings, and how “some teachers see the creeping abbreviations as part of a continuing assault of technology on formal written English.” Lee then describes tactics such as “deduction of points, red ink, and class scolding,” used by these teachers to counter the up rise in the abandonment of “proper English writing (Lee 160). She proceeds by informing the reader on how much the instant messaging (IM) “fad” has affected the online population by stating, from Nielsen/NetRating, that “almost 60 percent of the online populations under the age of 17 use IM. Lee then continues by voicing the view of those teachers that feel IM “is just part of the larger arc of language evolution” (Lee 161). In Lee’s conclusion, the continuation of IM in every day writing will inevitably spawn reform in how the average persons communicates with one another and force those opposed to IMs to conform to the up rise in short hand. In another article, For Some, the Blogging Never Stops by Katie Hafner and Tim Gnatek, the effects of online...

About Me

...previously absent). After that, I focused on these, more important higher order concerns: audience, pathos and genre conventions. Previously, the reference to the audience for my blog was vague and practically missing. By adding the fact that “one of the primary uses of this blog is for my English 1020 class at Wayne State University,” I was able to hone in on my prospective audience: my professor and fellow classmates. Next, I added in more details about myself to help the reader feel better connected to me. By stating where I lived through my life and what country I identity myself as being from, as well as one of my biggest goals in life, I am allowing future readers to know me and my writing, not just the latter. Finally, I attempted to improve my use of genre conventions. About Me pages typically include a reason why the writer started a blog, so I included that. Also, I tried to be more interactive with my readers by asking them to provide feedback to my blogs, another characteristic of the genre. In terms of the Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs), I feel I have made significant progress in writing, reading, research and reflecting (some more than others) so for this semester. I am excited to see how much further I can improve in these categories, as they are essential not only for English and other...

Flanders´ Promotion Through Chocolate

...TSITSOULIS Nikolaos 20. 11. 2013 20. 11. 2013 Flanders’ promotion through Chocolate I. The passionate communities After an intensive search on Internet we did not find very popular blogs and forums that focus solely in chocolates or sweets or candies. Their importance and popularity was measured based on their ranking and visitors’ country (in order to ensure that they are visited by English-speaking counties) in Alexa.com (Alexa is a company that provides analytics for websites) and based on the number of subscribers, likes on Facebook and followers on twitter. Another limitation was that almost all those blogs were not associated with traveling in order to taste chocolate and sweets. Therefore we decided to look for food blogs. Generally speaking we found out that food blogs are more popular – based on the factors that are mentioned above – which seems to be logical as the topic of food is broader than the topic of chocolates. Here are some examples: 1. Chocolate-covered Katie (http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/ ) Chocolate-covered Katie is the most influential blog in terms of Facebook likes (around 76000) and Twitter followers (almost 15000). The blog states that you have to eat what you truly desire in order to be happy. 2. Chocablog (http://www.chocablog.com/) Chocablog is based in London with a dedicated team of writers from around the world, their mission is to find and review the best chocolate...

Through the first quarter I have learned so much that I haven't been very exposed to before and I like it. For example, the “showing not telling” has been a big influence in understanding what makes a story great and captivating. I’m satisfied with the work i’ve produced, but at the same time I am very eager to achieve more. After this first quarter, I now understand what I’ve done wrong and what I need to do in order to bring my writing to the next level. ...connection Not always appropriate materials for students http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/blogs/gozalutem/advantages-disadvantages-using-technology-classroom TAG ARCHIVES: DISADVANTAGES OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM Here are some counter arguments against English teachers being expected to use technology in the classroom: 1. Some teachers feel that they don’t want to have yet another new thing to learn. They have spent years learning about the language and dealing with the different designer approaches and fads in ELT. And now, they are being told that all the knowledge and experience they have accrued from teaching English is not enough if they are unable to get to grips with the latest device or online software. They feel that the ability to use technology has got nothing to do with learning English per se, and if such high standard and qualification are needed for learners to survive in the job market, then these learners should be taking classes in IT, and not be relying on their English teacher to provide them with such training. . 2. Teachers are not paid enough to spend all their free time learning to use new digital tools and implementing them. It takes hours to moderate a wiki or Moodle account, to respond to comments on a blog, to find appropriate games and video clips, to maintain the students’ interest in class chats on Twitter or Facebook, and to read other teachers’ blogs for more ideas and development. And most schools do not pay teachers to do this. ...

By the late 1670 only four thousands of the American Indians, had divided twenty different tribes, that continued to live in close to the European settlers. Many of the Europeans settlers accepted the dependent status of the English crown. Governor Berkeley had treated equitably and distinguish between American Indians allies and foes. Regardless about the colonists those people that where located on the western frontier, were deeply evil to all the American Indians. All the details to the rebellion are straightforward.
