...The folklore “Bloody Mary” was believed to come from because of how evil she was and how she murdered people because of religious differences. the way you summon bloody Mary is you have to go to a room usually a bathroom at night, staring at the mirror, and repeating the name "Bloody Mary" three or more times in succession. Sometimes, a declaration of belief ("I believe in you") is required to accompany this incantatory naming process. Frequently, there is also an interaction among participants, such as a finger-pricking and blood-commingling step, to hasten the result. The corresponding expectation is that this series of steps will make the image of "Bloody Mary” typically, the bloodied figure of an adult female who died an unnatural death...

...On the 30th January 1972, British soldiers shot dead thirteen Irish nationalist civilians during a civil rights demonstration, which protested against the present discrimination and state tyranny against the Catholic minority; Derry city, Northern Ireland. This event is known as ‘Bloody Sunday’, argued to be the most devastating instance of the British state’s use of armed force against its own citizens (Dawson, 2005). Source two, an interview of a Catholic priest that attended the demonstration appears to be more valuable to a researcher seeking to understand the events. To compare, source three acts as less useful to a researcher due to the level of criticism it later received, which ultimately led to a fresh inquiry in 2010, named the Saville...

...Transformation is a central concern when studying 'The Bloody Chamber' and 'The World's Wife'. How far would you agree with this observation? Transformation is a prominent theme in the 'The Bloody Chamber' and 'The World's Wife', with the transforming beast, the changing of man’s ideal of perfection and finally physical transformation occurring throughout both volumes. These 'transformations' are brought about via the chains of a patriarchal society which are imposed upon the female protagonists which causes them to have to leave their assumed role in society and assume a more independent and masculine role. Both authors use revisionism throughout their tales so as to allow both their feministic values to be expressed and to allow the female narrative voice to be heard and thus emphasise the sense of female empowerment and independence which permeates both volumes. As Sarah Gamble writes, both writers use the fairy tale as a vehicle for the perpetuation of female oppression in culture.[1] Transformation is a traditional theme of the fairy-tale with it being a key aspect of Carter's 'Cat tales.' In 'The Courtship of Mr Lyon', the love of Beauty is a catalyst for the metamorphosis of Mr Lyon which causes a transformation from his strong bestial qualities with his “unkempt” looks and his “rough, hot, stiff stubble” into the stereotype of the gentleman who walks calmly in the garden with his wife. Her enduring love for Mr Lyon develops him from the “leonine apparition” into...

...The Bloody Benders were a family of German serial killers who owned a small general store and inn called the Wayside Inn in Osage township, Labette County, Kansas from 1872 to 1873. The alleged family consisted of John Bender, his wife Kate, son John Jr. and daughter Kate. While most people believe John and Kate were brother and sister, the two were known to have had a more intimate relationship and some people said that they claimed to be man and wife. Ma Bender spoke very little English and was so unfriendly that her neighbors took to calling her a “she-evil.” John Bender, who spoke English fluently with a German accent, was prone to laughing aimlessly which led ted many to consider him a “half-wit.” Kate Bender was attractive and a self-proclaimed healer and psychic. Kate’s popularity became a large attraction for the Bender’s inn. Although the elder Benders’ kept to themselves, Kate and her brother regularly attended Sunder school in nearby Harmony Grove. It was speculated that if a guest appeared to be wealthy, the Benders would give him a seat of honor at the table which was positioned over a trap door that led down into the cellar, with his back to the curtain. Kate would distract the guest, while John Bender or his son would come from behind the curtain and strike the guest on the right hand side of the skull with a hammer. The victim’s throat was then cut by one of the women to ensure his death. The body was then dropped through the trap door. Once in the cellar, the...

...A, THE BRITISH ACADEMY SOMERSET HISTORICAL ESSAYS SOMERSET HISTORICAL ESSAYS By J. Armitage Robinson, D.D, Fellow of the British Academy Dean of Wells 1921 London: Published for the British Academy By Humphrey Milford, Oxford University Press Amen Corner, E.C. PRINTED IN ENGLAND AT THE OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS BY FREDERICK HALI, 76$ J 9 2/ PREFACE The writer of these pages makes no claim to be a historian, but he is concerned with the materials which go to the construction of true history. Occasionally he is led to revise the verdicts of historians on the ground of a renewed investigation of some isolated problem, or in the light of fuller information which has but lately become available. He hopes that he has done this with sufficient modesty. As a rule he has avoided direct controversy and has preferred a positive presentation of the revised position. He is well aware that when offered thus silently the corrections he desires to make are less likely to attract immediate attention than if he directly challenged fallacies which shelter under honoured names. But he writes from mere love of the subjects to which he has been drawn by the circumstances of his position and by local patriotism ; and he has experienced more than once the temporary blindness pro- duced by the dust of conflict. On the other hand he asks for criticism, ...

...last year of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred for an anti-Vladimir Putin protest in Russia's main cathedral. One of the women has had her sentence suspended on appeal." Judge Galina Yefremova rejected the petition, saying the court that sentenced Alekhina had already taken the child’s existence into account. Reaction: The crime that the two women had committed was very disrespectful, and definitely deserved harsh prosecution. They interrupted a church service and subjected people to whatever point they were trying to make. They covered their faces in church, a big disrespect in the Orthodox religion, stormed the Altar, forcing the church service to stop. Also, women are not allowed in Orthodox Altars, sang a prayer to the Virgin Mary which included swearing. Sinning there. and had their backs to the Altar, another disrespect. Imagine this happening in a Catholic church or a Muslim mosque. No one would be defending these girls if that was the case. But it was an Orthodox church in Russia, which is why people find this anti-Putin-ism related. They interfered with the Orthodox religion, showing disrespect and I support the court ruling. However, the issue that one of the woman brings up...

...The six works of American art that I have chosen all represent women. These paintings show how women were depicted by American artists. Some of the works of art show only women or children, while one of the portraits shows a couple. John Singleton Copley painted Portrait of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mifflin (Sarah Morris). This is the only portrait that I have selected that shows both man and woman. I feel that these six works of art show the growth of how women were presented from 1671-1893. The works of art that I have selected are Mrs. Elizabeth Freake and Baby Mary(1671-74), Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mifflin(1773), The White Girl(1862), Miss Amelia Van Buren(1891), A Virgin(1892-93),and Lady Agnew of Lachnaw(1892-93. I believe that these paintings are similar in many ways, yet different as well. Anonymous, Mrs. Elizabeth Freake and Baby Mary, This painter, although unknown, can be attributed to half-dozen portraits that were painted in Boston. This colonial painter shows their knowledge of traditional British portraiture that is derived from representations of Elizabeth I. As you can see by looking at this painting, this artist gave more attention to the clothing that Mrs. Elizabeth Freake is wearing then to Mrs. Freake’s characteristics. This portrait was done in oil on a 42 ½ X 36 ¾ “ canvas. One way that I feel that this painting is different than the other paintings is that it is a pendant portrait. This was painted to hang next to the portrait of Mr. Freake. These paintings...

...even gave the disciples authority over unclean spirits with power to cast them out and to cure all kinds of diseases and sickness as in the Gospel today. But for me, what can I do? I cannot cure the sick nor diseases. I do not even have the power to cast out the unclean spirit. The Rector cannot provide me what Jesus provides for the disciples. Well, I do not expect that the Rector is like Jesus. So the Rector gave us a word of encouragement. Just go to the Hospital and smile. So we went to the Hospital and the moment we entered into the ward, we were chased away by the patient. I felt discourage at that time, but not strong enough to pull me down. The second time we went, I brought Mother Mary and St Joseph together with me so that we will not be chased away again. So it does. Mother Mary and St Joseph help us through the day. I cannot do like what the disciples did, so I have to focus on what is possible to do. And what is possible for us is just being with them and smile. St. Francis once says that, preach...

...The included image is a print of an original work titled Creation, by calligraphist Donald Jackson and nature illustrator Chris Tomlin. This print hangs in a frame within the home of Dr. Beverley Connelly. The original work is one of many such images found in the Saint John’s Bible, located in the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library at Saint John’s University. This is a piece that is beautiful, dynamic, and expressive, as well as asymmetrical and representational. This piece is meant to be viewed from the bible itself, as a spiritual experience or reference. It is a visual aid to the writing within the bible, showing the creation of the world through the seven days in the book of Genesis. Prints of the work are sold online so that viewers may take the art home and experience it firsthand whenever they wish. The print in Dr. Connelly’s home is hung at eye level, in a simple frame, so you may stand as close or as far away from it as you desire. In her home it is a visual representation of the beliefs of her and her partner, as well as an inviting decoration. Creation is composed asymmetrically, but does incorporate symmetry in a number of places. The image is linear, telling a story that happens in a sequential order. The sequence is divided into seven visible pillars that lay side by side horizontally. Arrangement is simple, with a few more complex attributes throughout. Line is used to denote movement or the passage of time and actions. Some naturalistic images are also used...

...Artist, Kirk Clark, created a marvelous 2-D artwork in the religious category; it represents the positive and negative people of same sex marriage. This art piece is called Birth of an Angel (BA) at Beyond Arts Gallery in downtown Harlingen, Texas. Kirk Clark was born right here in the valley in McAllen, Texas and studied sculpture and drawing in the mid-60s, graduating from The University of New Mexico. As already stated this piece is a 2-D artwork done marvelously. There are so many vibrant colors on the top symbolizing heaven yet dark colors on the bottom symbolizing earth. These colors are formed in wiggly lines all around the painting, but one part of the painting forms an angel in a cool color of silver. One pattern you can see is in the angel formed with silver lines and silver dots to notice the angel in the painting. The angel can be seen as very graceful and honorable in a religious evaluation. I believe this painting symbolizes the darkness our world has become. Heaven is the vibrant colors in the painting; our key to a better home. Our world has become so dark and cruel on so many levels. Some of our people hate on those for loving their same sex partner. Love is love no matter whom or what is may be. I believe God loves all his children no matter their mistakes or whoever they may love. Our world should see that no matter what God loves everyone so they should as well. Matthew 6:14-15 states “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive...

The priests describes her signs of jealousy as “Very worrying” and none of them really realizes that she’s only just a child and how should she understand what Christianity is about in such an young age. It really shows how important it is not to worry too much when trying to understand your child and instead show her all of the love she in this case defiantly is searching for. All of this really comes down to upbringing and how sometimes you need to let kids be kids. ...I. Introduction ` Religion is one of the most influential topics in today’s society. When focusing on three different types of topics that necessary to me and my life, I decided to choose the three that The topics I chose to write on are: Did Jesus need to be born of a virgin, 0 Why are personal testimonies important in sharing the gospel, and If a person is a Christian, or does it matter how they live their lives? Yes, in order for Jesus to die for our sins He had to go through the birth canal so that He could be of temptation and human flesh and overcome it without sin. I think that personal testimonies are important in sharing the gospel because who better to show or tell you what God can do, than someone who has experienced it themselves. Yes they are. When a person is a Christian, they have to have a normal attitude about themselves, that they are loving and caring people who are God loving. I. Section One Did Jesus need to be born of a virgin? Yes, in order for Jesus to die for our sins, He had to go through the birth canal so that He could be of temptation and human flesh and overcome it without sin. From the day He was born until the day He died, Jesus was without sin to be a perfect sacrifice. Since, we are born into the world as sinners, a miraculous entrance into the world was required, and that’s why the virgin birth occurred. “For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and to...
