Introduction

The aim of this report is to explain the Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances from fixed and mobile devices and building personal area networks (PANs). Invented by telecom vendor Ericsson in 1994[1] .it was originally conceived as a wireless alternative to RS-232 data cables. It can connect several devices, overcoming problems of synchronization.
Bluetooth is managed by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), which has more than 25,000 member companies in the areas of telecommunication, computing, networking, and consumer electronics. The IEEE standardized Bluetooth as IEEE 802.15.1, but no longer maintains the standard. The Bluetooth SIG oversees development of the specification, manages the qualification program, and protects the trademarks. A manufacturer must make a device meet Bluetooth SIG standards to market it as a Bluetooth device. Network of patents apply to the technology, which are licensed to individual qualifying devices.

The name "Bluetooth" comes from the 10th century Danish King Harald Blåtand or Harold Bluetooth in English. King Blåtand helped unite warring factions in parts of what are now Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Similarly, Bluetooth technology was created as an open standard to allow connectivity and collaboration between disparate products and industries [2].

...Abstract Bluetooth technology was first founded in 1994 and in the 20 years since its finding Bluetooth continues to connect the world. From connecting cell phones to cars to connecting hospitals with one another Bluetooth has simplified the way we do things as well as made them more secure. There are limits to Bluetooth though, such as its range and the speed of transferring data. In the horizon Bluetooth has NFCs and Wi-Fi direct staring it down. We will also look at what these two technologies have in common with Bluetooth and where they are stronger and weaker than Bluetooth. Finally, will either of these two technologies take over the market that Bluetooth has dominated since it inception?   “Bluetooth is a wireless communication technology that allows people to conveniently connect their devices with other devices and the role of the technology is evolving to not only allow devices to talk with one another, but actually allow the seamless communication between devices, local applications and the cloud (Rogerson, 2014)." Bluetooth is a simple way to connect to other individuals, to share pictures, videos, and music without having to use cords or wires. It allows individuals freedom to share without having to use data plans or service fees. Bluetooth is found in most electronic devices, including most smart cell phones, wireless speakers, headphones, computers, keyboards, computer mice, televisions, and even video games. Bluetooth became a project in 1994...

...LUETOOTH TECHNOLOGY ABSTRACT Bluetooth technology unplugs our digital peripherals and makes a cable clutter a thing of the past. In short, it is a wireless replacement for many of the cables we currently use to transmit voice and data signals. It is the result of the joint achievements of nine leading companies: 3COM, Lucent Technologies, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia, Toshiba, Ericsson, altogether known as the Blue Tooth Special Interest Group (SIG). The idea is to create a single wireless protocol to address the end-user problems arising from proliferation of various mobile devices. The Bluetooth specification is ideal for mobile professionals who need to link notebook computers, mobile phones, PDA’s , PIMs, digital cameras, and other hand-held devices to do business at home, on the road, or in the office. Governments worldwide regulate it, so it is possible to utilize the same standard wherever one travels. Bluetooth provides three low power modes to conserve battery life: sniff mode, hold mode, and park mode. It aims at low power consumption and provides security for both stationary and mobile devices. A Bluetooth chip (9mm x 9mm) takes the information normally carried by the cable, and transmits it at a special frequency to a receiver. Bluetooth radio modules use Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying (GFSK) for modulation. Blue Tooth employs an FHSS spreading technique, changing frequencies at a rate of 1600 times per second - 160 times the rate at which a wireless...

Bluetooth and Infrared Technology

...Bluetooth and Infrared Technology Technology has grown so much over the years, thinking back to my childhood when I first saw a remote control and was over the moon with excitement. No more getting up to change the channels, that was my first thought. The first time I saw a cell phone, having to hold that big clunky thing up to your ear throughout an entire conversation was a chore. Now when you do any of these things, you see such advancements that come from two of the most popular technologies that have come to be. Bluetooth and Infrared, both have been around longer than most of us know. During my research for this paper, I learned that Infrared is where we get our remote controls for TV, for which all 80’s children are grateful, we no longer had to come inside to change the channels for our Moms. I have learned where these technologies came from, what they are used for, the people and companies that buy them, and what we can look forward to in the future. Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows data to be exchanged over short distances using short wavelength radio transmissions. This technology is built into of plethora of products that allows them to exchange information over a wireless connection, or in basic terms, it allows one device to talk to another without wires. Two devices must be paired together in order to share. Several devices can be connected to a single Bluetooth, such as PDAs, mobile phones, laptops, computers, printers, controllers...

...implemented in solving this crisis. In this paper, the global position system (GPS) based child care system is proposed to solve this problem. This system consists of two nodes; child and parent nodes, each carried by the child and parent respectively. The child node consists of a simple circuit that has a Bluetooth module and a GPS receiver. The parent node is a mobile device that has Bluetooth connection. The GPS technology helps to determine the exact position of the child. The parent node receives the location of the child and displays the information on a designed map using a GUI program that is embedded into the mobile device. Besides the location, the distance between parent and child can also be determined using Bluetooth connection. A data from received signal strength indicator (RSSI) is extracted out from the Bluetooth connection and is used as vital information in determining the distance between parent and child. An alert is triggered when the distance between the parent and child is far apart for a certain range. The proposed system proves to be useful as a locator that could locate missing and wandering child for the parents. Keywords— GPS, Bluetooth, RSSI,...

Blue Tooth Technology

...Bluetooth Technology When asked to explain Bluetooth, you might say it’s the little wireless headset with the blue light that makes people appear to be talking to themselves, but Bluetooth can be used for many activities beyond that. Bluetooth technology originally developed in 1994 to be used as a wireless alternative to hardwired data transfer cables and its name is from an ancient Danish king (Harold Blatand) and even the logo was derived from the runes of his initials “H.B.” (Biddle). Bluetooth has fortunately moved beyond simple data transfer and can be found on phones, headsets, keyboards, mice and almost every car has a model that is Bluetooth enabled (bluetooth.com/facts). While Bluetooth is similar in nature to Wi-Fi, but has a more limited range. it is Bluetooth’s communicates over radio the 2.4 to 2.485 GHz frequencies with newer devices having a lower power mode that is much more energy efficient and saves battery life of the devices. The communication area for Bluetooth is very limited and typically only considered a PAN (Personal Area Network) usually less than 100 meters, depending on the version of Bluetooth being used is forced to the range of the lower power device (Bluetooth.com/facts). Despite the limited range of Bluetooth it has the possibility of being at risk for crime. Due to Bluetooth being found in a great many devices the opportunity to subvert and use it for nefarious purposes is always a concern. Older Bluetooth devices were designed with...

...* * * * * The Possibly not so Smartphone Thomas Blackard ITT Tech * * Since the 1990’s cellphone technology has been sneaking itself into our lives one-text message at a time. We have not only become dependent but addicted to our text trance inducing, video playing, face booking internet device wrapped in plastic and glass. The split second our precious phone could touch social media and the internet it was over, we were hooked and there is no turning back. The cellphone has become the single most used portable computing component of our lives and the most disposable and the most intertwined. We could start our story with vendors or marketers but I will discuss some of the more main stream ideology first, i.e. what makes a smartphone a smartphone by definition. From a technological point the discussion is fairly simple really, you take a small LCD screen, battery, cellular radio, CPU and RAM plus a really cool operating system. Voilà! A cell phone. The advanced micro-technology coupled with highly consumable content and our social interactions make the Internet larger and the world smaller. A user could be texting a colleague in Christ Church who could be doing a Facebook Check-In while texting a Twitter post exposing his or her comments or thoughts to tens of thousands of internet denizens almost simultaneously...
