Bog turtles are a tiny turtle species native to the eastern United States. The scientific name for bog turtles is Glyptemys muhlenbergii. Despite their importance, bog turtle numbers have been falling for a variety of reasons. Invasive animals, such as bullfrogs and raccoons, pose a threat to bog turtles by competing for food and space and preying on turtle eggs and hatchlings. Climate change is another serious issue, as rising temperatures and shifting precipitation patterns can disrupt the delicate balance of wetland habitats on which bog turtles rely for existence. Conservation activities are critical for limiting these dangers and protecting the bog turtle.
