Bonding and Sealing Organic Windows

Application Description
Most of the organic glazing materials used in boat building are either clear acrylic sheet (PMMA), widely marketed under trade names such as
Perspex and Plexiglas (the latter manufactured by Rohm and Haas), or polycarbonate (PC), marketed by Bayer GmbH as Makrolon and by General Electric as Lexan or scratch-proof
Margard.
All plastic glazing products possess certain characteristics that must be clearly understood before they are installed or bonded with adhesives. In general, incorrectly installed plastic glazing panels are prone to environmental stress cracking (ESC). This can be aggravated by the use of the wrong adhesives.

Sika Transportation_99

Plastic glazing products have a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than conventional glass.
Therefore, when designing glazing installations, an expansion gap of at least 10 mm all round the periphery must be incorporated between the window rebate and the plastic glazing panel to accommodate thermal movement. Similarly, any clearance holes for fixing screws must be drilled oversize; slightly larger than the diameter of the screw shank.
To minimise the risk of environmental stress cracking, flat sheets of plastic glazing material should be installed completely flat; they should

not be forced to take up a curvature by the use of mechanical fastenings. When the design calls for curved glazing panels, these should be prefabricated to order and properly tempered by a specialist supplier to ensure installation with no resulting stresses.
As many varieties of organic window exist, it is recommended to ensure that the specific grade selected is suitable for use with Sikaflex®-295
UV. Please note that the extruded type of organic glazing (XT) exhibits a higher tendency to environmental stress cracking than the cast type (CS).

Bond Line Protection

Place spacers in position. Depending on the size of the glazing panel, the thickness of the spacer should be chosen accordingly; approximately 30 Shore A hardness As with conventional glass, plastic glazing panels generally do not protect the adhesive face from damage by UV radiation. Therefore, the bond line must be protected from direct sunlight using one of the methods recommended.

Clamps and other fastening aids can be removed after 24 hours. After this time, the expansion gap between glazing panel and the back-fill gap should be filled and completely sealed with Sikaflex®-295

Commonly, the edge of the window will be cosmetically finished with Sikaflex® products.
The preparation of the surfaces must be identical to that used for bonding. Edge sealing ensures both the prevention of standing water on or near the bond and helps cosmetically finish the window. Fill up the joint completely, ensuring there is no space between the adhesive bead and the joint. ...BODY WELDING - CAN IT BE FLEXIBLE? BODY WELDING - CAN IT BE FLEXIBLE? Some 250~300 pressed panels from in-house and vendor facilities are brought to different subassembly stations of Body Weld Shop. Subassemblies of pressed components are carried out mainly by resistance welding and other joining methods in a planned sequence at number of stations. Some subassemblies are done in off-line manufacturing cells and fed in at appropriate locations into the main assembly line. Fig. 6.1 shows a layout of a typical Body Weld Shop. Front end, rear floor, and front floor, are transported to underbody body line, where all these are welded together in sequence to form the floor structure. Underbody is then transferred to main body welding station. Right hand and left hand body side panels are brought from two sides to main body weld station, after completion of all subassembly operations in separate lines. Preframing of body structure is carried out on special fixture. At same or next station, roof is added to form the body shell, Fig. 6.2. Thereafter, rear doors, front fenders, hood and decklid/ tailgate fitments are carried out to complete the body-inWhite. If necessary, a metal finish line may be added for minor repair of Body-in-White before it moves for painting. Fig. 6.3 illustrates the sequences of subassemblies and the main body weld. Typically, Body weld shop activities cover fixturing, welding, and transportation between the work stations, and the related support services....

...FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE BESTSELLING BIOGRAPHIES OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN AND ALBERT EINSTEIN, THIS IS THE EXCLUSIVE BIOGRAPHY OF STEVE JOBS. Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing. At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering. Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published. He put nothing offlimits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and...

...Introduction Packages Limited was born out of a dream to set up in Pakistan an industry of excellence based on local raw materials and talent. In July 1954 while on a visit to Sweden, Syed Babar Ali the first Managing Director and now Advisor to Packages Limited, negotiated the setting up of a packaging plant in Lahore with the collaboration of AB Akerlund and Rausing (Sweden). Packages Ltd. is one of the most famous and successful companies in packaging industry. It is situated at the south side of Lahore city in the industrial area., Packages emerged as a company geared to provide solutions. Sprawled over 105 acres, Packages is a dynamic example of cross-functional integration of various processes. Initially, Packages helped the consumer industry by providing packaging solutions in the form of cartons for cigarette, tea, confectionery, pharmaceutical and soap industries. However, supply of paper and board by local mills did not meet the quality requirements of the customers. As a result, in 1965 backward integration became a necessity to sustain quality output when a Paper and Board mill was put up. This happened because of strong belief in self-sufficiency and quality product development as an inherent part of the process. It is sole largest company, which is serving the 35% need of a county in its category. Today, Packages Ltd. is considered among the leading, fully integrated packaging complexes in Asia.. ...New Moon By Stephenie Meyer Summary When the Cullens, including her beloved Edward, leave Forks rather than risk revealing that they are vampires, it is almost too much for eighteen-year-old Bella to bear, but she finds solace in her friend Jacob until he is drawn into a cult and changes in terrible ways For my dad, Stephen Morgan— No one has ever been given more loving and unconditional support than I have been given by you. I love you, too. These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which, as they kiss, consume. Romeo and Juliet, Act II, Scene VI PREFACE I FELT LIKE I WAS TRAPPED IN ONE OF THOSE TERRIFYING nightmares, the one where you have to run, run till your lungs burst, but you can't make your body move fast enough. My legs seemed to move slower and slower as I fought my way through the callous crowd, but the hands on the huge clock tower didn't slow. With relentless, uncaring force, they turned inexorably toward the end—the end of everything. But this was no dream, and, unlike the nightmare, I wasn't running for my life; I was racing to save something infinitely more precious. My own life meant little to me today. Alice had said there was a good chance we would both die here. Perhaps the outcome would be different if she weren't trapped by the brilliant sunlight; only I was free to run across this bright, crowded square. And I couldn't run fast enough. So it didn't matter to me that we were surrounded...
