...APA CITATION: Fox, H. (2003). Eager. New York City, NY: Yearling. AGE JUSTIFICATION: This chapter book is suitable for children in the grades of 3th through 7th, age ranges 8 to 10+. It is a great imagination motivator for children and allows for them to ask questions about what the future of the story holds—which is fitting for their cognitive development at this stage. The book also allows for children to apply abstract concepts—like the ones presented in this book—logically. CRITICAL ANALYSIS: This book creates a world for children that allows them to think. They question things presented in the book like, what does it mean to be a human? There is also a present question of how much further will the advancement of technology take us?...

...Citing Sources Using APA Manual (6th ed.) APA Manual and Recent Updates Section 4 This section of the Library Handbook addresses how to cite recourses used in the body and the reference list of your document using the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.). Common examples for parenthetical text citations, citing direct quotes, and reference citations in the reference list are provided, but for a more comprehensive list, see the APA manual (6th ed.). Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism Plagiarism is the use of another person’s ideas or words without giving them the proper credit. Plagiarism can occur when you use someone else’s exact words without giving them credit, taking credit for someone else’s ideas, or even presenting your own past work as a new idea. Academic institutions take both intentional and unintentional plagiarism seriously, and it can be grounds for dismissal. According to the APA manual (6th ed.), the best method of avoiding plagiarism is to cite the ideas, theories, and research that directly influenced your work, cite key background information, information that may support or dispute your theory or hypothesis, or offer critical definitions or data (p. 169). Document all facts and figures that are not common knowledge. For journal articles and class assignments, APA recommends using one or two of the most representative sources for each key point, but for the literature review for a dissertation, you should include a...

...Cheating, Copying, and Use of Tutor-Source Websites Copying is one of the most commonly committed acts that violate academic integrity. Copying includes looking off of someone else’s paper (or using someone’s paper or answers from another course, classroom, or previous session). It also is committed when a purchased (or free) paper is found online that is specific to the assignments provided in the course. Websites like Student of Fortune, ScribD, Ask.com, and so forth (many others) sometimes end up with DeVry assignments posted on them by students who have hired online tutor sources to write their work for them. Faculty members are aware of these sites and, just like students, can Google sources to find out if a paper has been bought from these sites. Avoid these sites like the plague—seriously. It just isn’t worth the extra hour or two it might buy you if you end up with a 0 for the paper or course or lose your degree over buying a paper (or getting it for free.) Typically, the #1 red flag to a professor that one of these sites has been used is when multiple students miss the same question in the exact same manner. Yes, the answers on those sites will typically cost money, but the answers are not guaranteed to be right. And further, the free papers on those sites almost always have wrong answers. Do not use these sites! Avoid them! If you use them, citing them is not enough to overcome the copying stigma and violation of the policy. As one instructor of the course...

Available from ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database. (UMI No. 329321) Study Notes: Common APA Style and Formatting Challenges The following guidelines are followed by most faculty members on most Walden coursework, theses, and dissertations. Occasionally, Walden faculty will ask for slight variations on these rules. 1. Font: Use a 12-point serif font, such as Times Roman, Garamond, , Palatino, or Century Schoolbook. Titles, headings, and table titles and copy should also appear in the same 12-point type. 2. Spacing: Double-space all of your work, per guidelines in the 6th edition of the APA style manual. Per APA, you should insert two spaces after a sentence ending period, although many Walden members allow a single space after a period. [A single space is fine for Dr. Mahoney.] For all assignments, be careful that your word processing program does not put extra line spaces before or after paragraphs. You can change that under Page Layout, Paragraph, Spacing for Windows 7. 3. Margins and page numbers: All margins should be 1" from the edge of the paper. Page numbers go in the upper right corner, 1" down and 1" in from the...

The last slide(s) in the presentation should be the list of references you used for the assignment in APA format. For this assignment, you do not need to use outside resources and references for the PowerPoint presentation. ...Critique (Due Sept 11, 2012) Review the critical analysis questions in the “Conclusion and Critic’s Resource” section of your textbook. Write an eight to ten page film critique (excluding the cover and reference pages) of an American feature film of your choosing. Use the list of critical analysis questions provided in your textbook as a guide while writing your paper. Areas that must be covered: • Storytelling • Acting • Cinematography • Editing • Sound • Style and Directing • Impact of society on the film and vice versa • Genre • Application of at least one approach to analysis and interpretation • Overall textual themes Writing Tips: • Students must select a film that they have not previously explored in class, either in written assignments or discussion posts. • Students must establish a coherent thesis statement in the introduction of their paper with a claim that they intend to prove. The body of the essay serves to support the thesis through an analysis of the film and other relevant material. Avoid simply rehashing descriptive material from other source. • Support your thesis through textual and formal analysis. Refer to specific shots, scenes, characters, stylistic devices, and themes in the film. • As much as possible, use technical, literary and industry terms to make your points. • If needed, you may use additional resources to support your claims. Suggested sources might include academic books and articles; film reviews; and personal opinions...
