Behavioral Expectations

...student will work on how to make it erupt, one works on making the platform, one works on cutting the chicken wire, and one is cutting up newspaper strips. The desks in the group are all facing each other, and each student is given an instruction sheet for their particular job. They are instructed to help one another when someone gets stuck, and to check off on their papers when they have finished each step. Another activity I chose was the use of learning centers and computer stations. Some examples of my learning centers for this particular day are the video center on volcanoes, the reading center on volcanoes, and the poster center on volcanoes. I have four groups set up for the students to learn from about volcanoes. The video center is off in the corner, and has a 20 minute video for the students to watch. The reading center is towards one outer wall and has a stack of books and magazines for the students to read about volcanoes. Another learning center has various posters of volcanoes that are packed with useful information about volcanoes. Then there is the computer station where the students can research more information on the web about volcanoes. One behavioral expectation of my cooperative learning groups is to keep the voice volume down between students in the small groups, so as not to disturb other working groups. I will tell my students this rule, then i will discuss and demonstrate appropriate volume. I will make sure to reinforce this rule as the project...

Unplugged Schools

...of doing a task, individuals become accustomed to keep using the source(s) for the easy way out. Not only is it a much easier way, but people lose many other factors and the main purpose by not doing it first hand. Younger generations are the ones that are being affected by the technology the most. In most schools around the world, technology is now being fitted into the school's curriculum in order to lead the students into a successful path. However, it is only giving the students an easier way to find the answers without them actually learning and comprehending what the main lesson(s) or purpose is. For example, when a student is writing a research paper, all he or she has to do is go on a computer, type in a couple of words, and the research is done. Instantly a student can have information and answers without doing any actual research themselves. Technology is not only giving the answers directly to the student but it is putting them down for failure in the outside world when they face the challenge of not being able to rely back to the computer or phone. The teachers rely on technology just as much as the students do, causing not only harm to students but the entire school. Due to the technology advancing rapidly and taking over the students and educators, there needs to be a solution that will fix the problem; so why not unplug schools. Unplugging schools is minimizing or eliminating the usage of all technological devices on a school campus including cell...

As of this writing, there are hundreds of SNSs, with various technological affordances, supporting a wide range of interests and practices. Report

...Mastering Research Papers Submitted by WWW.ASSIGNMENTPOINT.COM Research papers of any size are the bane of many students’ academic existence. They can be daunting, demanding, and stress-inducing. However, they are an important and essential element of higher learning. They both teach and test students’ ability to research, evaluate sources, think critically, organize their thoughts, and express them persuasively. And, approached the right way, they can be an extraordinarily enriching and rewarding exercise. Following are some strategies for writing better research papers, and for making the experience a more satisfying—and less agonizing—one. I will focus less on the mechanics (APA style, etc.) of writing a research paper, and more on what it takes mentally and emotionally to not only survive, but actually thrive, in the process of completing so demanding an assignment. (And let’s face it: you will have many across your academic career.) I rely here on not only what I have gleaned from over 35 years of grading university-level research papers, but also from my own ongoing research and writing. So, what works? Here are seven keys to mastering research papers:   1. There’s No Wasted Motion As I reflect back over my research career, beginning with my master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation, I am aware of having read many more books, articles, and other resources than I eventually ended up using in my final research manuscripts...

Language and Literacy Essay

...Dorothy Reed Grand Canyon University: ECH-425 June 13, 2014 In this paper I will be discussing the different ways language abilities and deficiencies impact the literacy development for the different age groups up to age eight. I will also include how teachers should support the English language learners when they are trying to grasp the concept of learning a new language. The word deficiency means not having enough of something that is important or necessary (Merriam-Webster dictionary). Learning to read and write ant an early age is what will help set the tone for a child’s learning in their later years of school. It was established that the early childhood years serve as an important foundation for subsequent literacy development (Neuman and Dickerson, 2001; Snow, Burns, and Griffin 1998; Whitehurst and Lonigan, 2001).Reading books aloud is the best way to help children at a young age develop good literacy skills. In a forum that I came across while I was doing my research talked about how only 58 percent of children ages 3-5 are read to daily by family members (Forum on Child and Family Statistics, 2004). Just think if we as teachers, parents, and family members read to our children more throughout the week, what an impact we would be making on a child’s life and on their literacy skills for reading and writing. I have four grandchildren and I read to them at least three times a week when they are at my house. My granddaughter is seven and she helps me read to her...

Rock and Roll

...When Rock arrived on the music charts in the 1950's, a merging of African-American and White music, it made a huge impact on society. As a general rule I am not heavily into music, but I was drawn to Rock for some inexplicable reason. It is just the music I like. This genre will be difficult to write about because the origin of Rock is unclear; there are traces of Rock's style back into the 19th Century. It is also a very broad subject and I will have to compress a lot of information into as few pages as possible. Be that as it may, Rock is, in my opinion the best music genre on the charts. There is so much information on Rock that I will have to have questions I want to find the answers to about the music. My first question will be, "What instruments are commonly used in a rock band?" This will not be hard to answer as it is a very easy question that has a definite answer. The next question will be, "Who were the first artists to produce Rock music?" This is also an easy question were I will discuss the first Rockers. Continuing on, my next question will ask, "How was the term ‘Rock and Roll' created, and by who?" This may turn out to be a hard question to answer because I am sure there a multiple answers. "Has Rock become more or less popular since its inception?" will be my next question. For this question I will have to look for a survey or poll of some type and present its data. My final question will be, "How has the Music been changed over the years and who changed...

English135 Research Paper

...Dieting in America: An Unhealthy Habit Joshua Keith Gary DeVry University English 135 February 24, 2012 Tara Houston Dieting in America: An Unhealthy Habit Every year millions of Americans make a New Year’s resolution to begin a strict diet to lose weight and be healthier. Every year, many of those same people chose a one-size-fits-all fad diet and flunk out with in just a few short months, with some calling it quits within weeks. The truth is there is no such thing as the perfect diet for all consumers, yet we still follow the media, celebrities, and coworkers down the road of the most popular fad diet that promises the quickest gains. In the end we spend billions of dollars on these diets and all the accessories that come with them, such as expensive gym memberships and hyped up supplements, and the results are minimal at best. Dieting in America has become a mainstream, profit generating habit that can be unhealthy and costly; educating the public on alternative eating habits and supplemental lifestyle choices can lead to healthier individuals and outweigh the marginal benefits of dieting alone.   American’s are competitive by nature, and never want to be left behind. Mainstream dieting has been around for decades, growing more and more popular as our ways to reach out to more consumers grow. I can remember being a child, listening to my mother and aunts discuss New Year’s resolutions that always included dieting. Back then we only had the evening news...

Literally, I dropped my face on my desk and whispered, “God help us all; I’m about to fail this class.” I had a gut feeling that the assignment was going to be difficult and time consuming. Immediately I imagined the many hours that I would have to assert on the assignment, and the thought depressed me. Little did I know that doing the assignment would bring me one of the greatest surprises of my academic life and taught me that the writing process can’t be rushed. Mrs. Fisher paced back and forth in front of the class room as she explained how someone inspired her to become a teacher. At some point I stopped listing and was on the verge of dozing off. Suddenlty my attention snapped back to her as her words “I get to assign you the person to do this essay on” pushed themselves into my consciousness.
