...The book of Exodus is a book of the early days of the nation of Israel. The book begins by describing the events that resulted in their slavery and oppression. God then enacts His plan to deliver His people out of Egypt. The children of Israel were not a people that were easily willing to change, so God had to prepare them. Even though they were in slavery, God had to prepare their hearts to leave Egypt. Only after that could their journey begin to the land that God had promised to them. However, after leaving Egypt, they were not an entirely spiritually mature people. God had to prepare their hearts for the Promised Land. Although it was time for them to leave the sin and oppression of Egypt, they needed to be grown and educated spiritually. God needed to work in their lives through the experiences in the wilderness to prepare their hearts for the conquering of the Promised Land. Through several, yet different, major experiences, God began to work in the hearts and minds of His people, in order to further their spiritual education. The first major event that God led the...

...148-170. Academic Search Premier. Web. 26 Feb. 2013. Summary: In this article, they examine the identity of biblical character Moses as a magician in modernity. It also studies the effect of the identity of Moses on the history of religion; Impact of the victory of Moses over the magic of the Egyptians in rabbinical literature; Information on the portrayal of Moses by Philo of Alexandria in his book "De Vita Mosis." Evaluation: This is an important article because it contain lot of information about the Miracle Moses was able to make when he was trying to get the people out of Egypt. Investigating the question of Moses as magician in modernity might seem hardly a meaningful venture. After all, the figure of Moses was established in the period between humanism and the Enlightenment much more obviously as the founder of a de-mythologized religion, in which things like magic had just been overcome. People thought that Moses was a magician; however, he was getting his power from God. Applicability: This article is interesting, and I found it very interesting. I will use it in my term paper to demonstrate what Moses has achieved to bring the people out of Egypt and where he got his power from. I will also explain what happen near the Mount Sinai when Moses was tending sheep and saw a bush that appeared to burn but was not destroyed. ANISFELD, MOSHE. ...CAPITAL PUNISHMENT BRIAN K. PRATER CRIMINAL JUSTICE MAJOR-APA Professor: Dr. Corey Martin March 7th, 2014 Abstract Capital punishment or as some refer as “the death penalty” is an emotional subject for all Americans and is a sensitive subject especially on the political stage. This research paper will discuss how the death penalty is not murder nor is it cruel. The death penalty is the delivery of justice to a suspect that has committed the most hideous crime of murder. The death penalty is justice being served after the suspect has been found guilty by a jury and has been through countless hearings in an appellate court. Our society has to have a defense in the battle of good versus evil, and a punishment that would cause one to pause before they commit an action that would end the life of another human being. This research paper will show why it is important to fully understand Capital Punishment and why it is important for all levels of Criminal Justice to have a defense against those who would do society harm. CAPITAL PUNISHMENT The death penalty causes a lot of debate throughout the United States. The death penalty delivers a retribution for the victim by ending the defendant’s life. The penalty is a deserved punishment that protects society and causes the defendant to pay the price to the victim for the harm he caused. A killer facing death as retribution is justified in the Holy Bible, “ Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood...

...NUMERICALLY SMALL OR NOT A research paper Presented in Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for the Course RELB307 Pentateuch By Tyrone Gregory October 2006 TABLE OF CONTENT INTRODUCTION 1 TOWARD PROPER INTERPRETATION 2 HISTORY OF INTERPRETATION 2 TEXTUAL ANALYSIS 6 CONCLUSION 9 BIBLIOGRAPHY 10 INTRODUCTION TOWARD PROPER INTERPRETATION The censusses of Numbers with their results have been the source of much debate among scholars over the years. Cupeled with Dueteronomy7:7 which states Israel was indeed a small people has led scholars to formulate many theories about the size of Israel. This paper will explore and give the proper interpretations to the texts Numbers 26:51 and Dueteronomy7:7. History of interpretation The basis upon which proponents of the argument that Israel was a numerically small unit are one, they view the scripture as fables, that it was composed by people trying to validate their status. Anderson argues that there is overwhelming evidence of folklore in the story of Jacob and Joseph, and as to how Israel got into Egypt. It is not a biographical account but a story for edification.[1] Two, scholars who promote the Documentary Hypotheses also base their arguments on the belief that scriptures were composed by sources namely, J,E,D,P; and later edited by the priestly school all this is done in an effort to make the various books correlate. The figure of 600...

...RESEARCH PAPER on “How the Bible and evolution clashes, why is the knowledge of the Doctrine of Creation is important to understand?” THEO 525 LUO (fall 2013) Systematic Theology I Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary October 11, 2013 Creation and Evolution clashes, when there are changes being made to the age of the earth and the creation of man. The structure is described in the Bible as God created it; however, it describes the earth before the six days of creation. When thinking about the integration of evolutionary principles, as far as the scientific laws are concerned, there is no difference between the origin of the earth and all of its life. Could the Big Bang theory have happened? The Gap Theory, everything made out of nothing. Is the Gap Theory real? Luther sided with the Bible and creation, is his blessing relevant today? Was the earth created out of nothing, no previous atoms did God use? God created the heavens and the earth in six days so we had the seventh day for Shabbat. The Progressive Creation explains the Genesis flood and the six days of creation. So the question is could God really have created everything in six literal days? If so, where did the origins of life come from; and what about the Law of Nature, their survival of the fittest? How big is the rift between the evolutionist and the creationist? Can we trust the Bible to tell us the truth? These are the questions that I will be looking for an answer to. In evolution...

...Paper Topic 3 There is a Time For Everything: An Exegetical Analysis of Ecclesiastes 3:1-15 Timing is everything. This is a statement that holds a great deal of truth. The difference between a good joke and a bad one is a person’s sense of timing. An appropriate pause makes a joke, an inappropriate pause can kill the same joke. Timing is essential when dealing with people. One must pick the right time to approach a coworker or friend about a problem. Timing is important in cooking. The moist cake in the oven is still runny batter if baked for too little time and a clump of charcoal if it is baked too long. Timing is important in medicine. If you catch a problem early you will be able to treat it more effectively. Timing is important in taking medication. If you take your medicine as directed it will be helpful. If you skip doses it loses its effectiveness. If you take extra doses it can be deadly. Timing is important in finance. When you invest in a particular stock and when you sell the particular stock will make the difference between whether you make money or lose it. We, as a society have time indicators hanging on the walls, built into our cell phones, computers, and cars. Timing is everything in today’s world, and society as a whole is very time-oriented. Timing is important in spiritual life as well. It is critical to live life with an acute awareness of God’s predetermined timing for life. The importance of timing is portrayed throughout Ecclesiastes 3:1-15. The book...

One of God’s most cherished creations, Lucifer, was placed in charge of guarding his royal thrown (Ezekiel 28:12-16). One day Lucifer took pride in his own beauty and his heart was filled with pride (Ezekiel 28:17). He began to think highly of himself and began to think wrongly of God. He began to take what rightfully belonged to God and began to put himself in God’s place. For the first time in all creation, one of his own had sinned against him. God judged him accordingly and placed him in the lake of fire (Matthew 25:41). The sacred scriptures tell us that after the fall, Lucifer was thereafter known as the Devil or the accuser. One question that remains to be answered is this: when did this event occur? Some theologians claim that Satan’s fall occurred before Genesis 1:1. Others contend that there was a gap that took place between...

...Essay: Big Bang Theory vs Young Earth Lee Physical Science March 3, 2012 Introduction Mankind has been giving the nature to explore and search for the beginnings of his existence. The beginnings are most debated over two separate views. The Big Bang Theory and the Six Day Creation have been a battle front for centuries. The “greatest minds in physics,” have pondered the beginning of the universe. Curiosity has led to questions of how the universe began. (LaRocco and Rothstein) Most scientists would teach that the earth has always been in existence. The debates focus either from a religious point of view or a secular or worldly point of view. These two thoughts will be compared and discussed in this paper. The Big Bang Theory The people who believe this theory think the universe began because of a large explosion. Many scientists teach this Big Bang happened some 15 Billion years ago. This event was an explosion “filling all of space with all of the particles of the embryonic universe.” (LaRocco &Rothstein) This theory is about ridiculous, because it is not really plausible to believe anything it states. How can an empty earth just happenstance into existence? This is exactly why they call it a theory. There is no evidence anywhere to prove this theory. Six-Day Creation While there are many people who believe in the evolution of the universe, there are believers that follow the Biblical creation model. To these people, the creation...

AWATEY, Samuel* Development Planning Officer, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Ghana. * E-mail of the corresponding author: profdealfas@yahoo.com Abstract This study employed the livelihood approach to examine the effects of streetism on the livelihoods of children who live and make their living on the streets of Kumasi. The study examines the causative factors that push children on to the streets, their encounters and experiences in their attempts to cope with street life. The study used both quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data was collected from 50 street children in eight areas in Kumasi where the street children are predominant. The study identified that children who live on the street adopt a range of survival strategies, both legal and/or illegal, to confront the challenges of urban street life. The study further identified that the plight of children arises not so much out of negative experiences they have gone through such as child abuse or child neglect but broadly to the absence of and inadequate programmes resulting from the low-priority placed on issues related to child welfare in the country generally. These challenge human right and underpin injustice in the country. The problems street children...

...Nichole Pinson Professor Slattery TH-150 Introduction to Theology 13 December, 2015 Reflection: The Sermon On The Mount Abstract The purpose of this research is to examine the significance of the Sermon of the Mount and how it relates to me personally. It is important to recognize that the principles underpinning Judaism is not a single belief instead a variety of belief systems. Through my research, I have drawn parallels and differences between Judaism and Christianity with respect to their belief system, and worldview. The paper affirms that Judaism has had a profound influence on the overall lifestyle, social interactions, cultural practices, and the religious history for the Jewish community. Introduction What does Judaism mean in the life of a Jewish person? In order to properly analyze “Judaism” one must first understand both the origin and the significance of the term Judaism. The term was first used in the intertestamental period by Greek-speaking Jews to distinguish their religion from Hellenism. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Judaism is defined as “a religion developed among the ancient Hebrews and characterized by belief in one transcendent God who has revealed himself to Abraham, Moses, and the Hebrew prophets and by a religious life in accordance with Scriptures and rabbinic traditions.” Simply put, Judaism is the intricate religious and cultural history for the diverse people known as the Jewish community. Judaism plays...

...Since the beginning of history, sexism has always been a prominent barrier between sexes. The notion that women are not on the same level as men has always been in existence. We see that even during the book of exodus this belief stems from the creation of Eve, through a rib of Adam. From scripture, Eve's roll was to be considered as a servant and a temptress, the sole reason why Adam ate the apple. Consequently Eve is blamed as being the reason mankind is not living in a paradise. Sexism has continued throughout ancient history and continues occur in our own environment to this day. Sexism is defined as the discrimination or hatred against people based on their gender rather then their individual merits. This is shown though a common modern day event; a girl cannot play in a hockey league because of her gender, similarly a male cannot be a part of many cheerleading squads because of his gender. There are many groups and movements that make this more aware to the public eye and help bring light to these issues but sexism will continue in our world as it has since the roots of mankind's creation. Sexism in its general usage is directed against females. A poll taken from a university in the states reported that 66% of the student body believed that males were the superior gender. Perhaps the grounds of this biased thinking is derived from older customs. In ancient Greece, dating back over twenty-five hundred years...
