The Illumination is depicting the “Entering into Jerusalem” scene from the Book of Mark 11:7-101.
The Background of the scene is a pale pink colour, similar to the pink in a sunset, only shown at the top half of the page. The bottom half is a leafy green colour, shaped like a large bush. This extends all the way to the bottom of the page. In the centre is the Christ figure, who is painted in the boldest colours on the page. He is wearing a dark blue cloak, with light blue highlights to show movement in the cloak. Both his tunic and halo are made from gold leaf. His halo has detailed designs in it, this includes a cross through the halo and small lines around it, looking similar to a clock. The omitted parts seem to be for purposes of conserving space for an otherwise loaded scene. Even so, there are many objects and figures to observe in this small space.
Starting on the bottom left are the nine figures standing behind Christ. The figures are drawn close together, but each wearing colours that differentiate them. While it is well known that there are twelve disciples in all, it would have been difficult to draw each one in such a tight space. Instead, the illustrator has drawn nine figures to scale with Christ and kept them closer together. This creates an illusion of a crowd.
Moving towards the right is the donkey standing on a cloak held out by the figure in the archway. In the scripture, it describes the people who went out to greet Jesus lay their cloaks to make a pathway for him (Mark 11:8). The illustrator has decided to make the largest and closer figure to Christ spread one cloak on the road. By doing this, he is able to make the cloak larger to cover more ground. The illustrator is still respecting the Christ figure by covering his path, as well as conserving space on the
