...2.0 RESEARCH FINDINGS 2.1 Interview Three people were chosen to be interviewed. In order to participate in the interview, one must be familiar with the broadcast and print media. He or she must like reading books and watch movie or TV series as well. The purpose of conducting this interview is to get more thorough perspectives on the Broadcast and Print media. Among the three interviewees, two engaged more with the Broadcast than the Print media. However, when asked to choose their preferences on visual or text, all of them agreed that visual plays more important role in their lives. The first interviewee, Charmaine, could not decide whether she prefers movies over books, or vice versa. The second and third interviewee, Louise and Hans, would want to watch movies based on the good books that they have read previously. However, they both would not buy those books if they watched movies first. Adding on, they both claimed they are regular movie goers because a movie only consumes two hours whereas, finishing a book takes them a week. Charmaine on the other hand, prefer convenience and tangible material. Therefore, she prefers reading books instead when she has the time. She still would go for movies at times but she stated that books offer more escapism from reality. I watched the movie with a few die hard fans who I talked to after the movie, and I will work some of their thoughts into the review. Another much loved book series has been brought to life in the form of Twilight, which despite having nothing in common with the Harry Potter series, will undoubtedly draw comparisons because of the furor and craze surrounding it. The main difference between the two, however, is that the Harry Potter films are generally good and solid films. Twilight, despite having done a couple things right, is not. As a story, I will admit, Twilight is very catchy and interesting. Now I see what all the hype is about. If I was a young girl, I would go nuts over this stuff too. It's not just a vampire and a human falling in love with each other, but because of the two leads, it's one of the best on screen romances of the decade. This, however, is severely hurt by the fact that Twilight boasts easily some of the worst writing and editing I've ever seen. Let's not forget about the horrid VFX and pasty makeup, either. What motivated me to do this, is that it is difficult to criticize movies as successful as this. So, I wrote this as a critic pointing out some huge flaws in the portrayals made through the movie’s characters, rather than focus on the story plot, like other movie reviews. ...When reading “Science of Memory-for studying and for life”, this made me think of different methods I use that are helpful to me when I need to study new material. The article talks about a process with 4 different steps organizing, encoding, rehearsing, and retrieving. I do not use all 4 but all could be helpful when learning. Organization is the first step I use to memorize any new material. Notes will not help anymore if they are poorly written on not well organized. You should arrange material so it’s easy for you to review and understand it. Experimenting with different organizational techniques will also help you find an approach that is helpful to you. Encoding is another helpful step of the process. To help your memory process try to pay attention to one thing, do not split your attention with different issues. Talk about key information that needs to be remembered. When you process the information think about it and truly process it, use mental pictures if possible to “double-encode” the information. Next is rehearsing this is the step I mostly use. Some people find it helpful to rewrite notes as a form of rehearsing. I personally take flash cards and put key information on them I’m not too sure about and study from them. Study groups can also help people rehearse, just seeing how someone else interrupted the learning material. Analyzing our lives on a daily basis seems easy, but after reading The Gender Trap: Parents and Pitfalls of Raising Boys and Girls by Emily Kane, I didn't realize how much I actually gender my children and how it could affect them in the future. Kane argued that parents are the ones who construct their children and although their parenting is safe they have the ability to stay away from the pitfall of the gender trap. The bigger picture?
