INTRODUCTION The last global revolutionary change of books dates back to 1456 when the printing machine was invented by Gutenberg. Before the coming of the printing, books were not products at everybody's disposal but they began to spread all over Europe setting the bases for the creation of a new type of market: the market of publishing. During the following centuries this market favoured the born of different applications of the printing, for example giving birth to the newspapers. But until the XX century nothing has changed in the approach to reading. In the early 80's, when computers and digital technology began to be really important tools for research of every kind, the idea that printed books could be converted in a virtual version started to be taken into consideration. It seems to be a not so relevant change from the point of view of reading itself because the method is still the same; but in terms of tools, the approach to reading evolved. The books are available in a digital format and an eReader is needed to read these files. We can consider the eReader like the cover of a book, and the eBooks files like the pages of the

Traditional or Electronic?

...the traditional print book out of the water, right? Reading is one of the most impactful, inspirational influences on people’s lives. But which is better, eBooks or the traditional print book? For most people that read, eBooks draw them in with no use of paper, and their apparent cheaper prices. But are they really cheaper than just a regular book? A newspaper article by Samantha Christmann from the Buffalo Time (NY) compares the prices of eBooks to a physical copy of a book. She states, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” by Stieg Larsson is available on Amazon’s Kindle store for just $7.16. Sure, the paperback list price is $14.95, but if you head to Borders, you can snap up a physical copy for just $7.99. Kitty Kelley's enormous Oprah biography runs $9.99 in eBook format versus the whopping list price of $30. But even so, if you were to head to Barnes&Noble, you could get it for just $15.” (1) If you look in the right places, the prices of an eBook and a physical copy are essentially the same cost. Secondly, Christmann takes into consideration the investment you must make when you first have to purchase an eReader before eBooks. “Barnes&Noble's Nook eReader and Amazon's Kindle both run $259. The Sony Reader costs about the same, but you can get the pocket edition for about $150. Apple's iPad, which will act as an eReader through one of several applications, starts at $499. From there, you'll add the cost of books.” (1) The cost of eReaders/eBooks adds up quickly. From...

...be foolish to disregard it as a channel with a considerable course to advertise. Be that as it may, whilst there is a ton of cash to be made online there are a few negatives as well. It merits considering both the upsides and downsides of online retail (think sites, online commercial centres like Amazon, and examination locales) versus a conventional 'blocks and mortar' approach with the goal that you realize what you are tackling and can arrange your business as needs (Business 2 Community, 2015). In Books, the business sector keeps on fluctuating by sub-class, with the nature of distributed having a critical effect. While the eBooks business sector keeps on seeing development, it is advancing as we had expected and still speaks to just a generally little extent of aggregate customer book deals in the UK. Inside of centre customer books, eBooks is centre around Fiction, which speaks to by far most of eBook downloads. Internet

...place where anyone can create anything and put it on a forum for all to view, retrieve and use as a source. Just because something is put into a space doesn’t make it correct. Using caution and exercising good judgment can help prevent using a bogus source, but in contrast the internet provides an interactive multimedia experience that is not available with library sources. Sources from the internet are also harder to identify due to the fact that many websites do not source the writer of the information, but just the name of the website itself. This once again can create another suspicion of plagiarism due to the fact that without an author the source becomes less creditable. Internet information can be accessed everywhere and although eBooks and online archives are available not all library...

...2-25-11 Kindle vs. Nook For Christmas my mom wanted an electronic book, so she wouldn’t have to carry a clunky book everywhere she went. Before I bought her just anyone I did some research that was the best quality, and best suited what she wanted. Also I didn’t want to put too big of a dent into my Christmas spending money, so something affordable was also in mind. After doing some research I had found which one I was more pleased with. My mom had unwrapped a Kindle on Christmas morning, if you had been wondering. Every product, no matter how much alike in the purpose they serve, has their own little twist to make their product seem better, and more appealing. Both electronic books are fairly small, but the Kindle is smaller in weight and size. Nooks weigh in at 12.1 ounces with the measurements of 7.7″ x 4.9″ x.5. Where as a Kindles weigh in at 8.7 ounces and have the measurements of 7.5″ x 4.8″ x.335″ (“The Two Hottest Ebook Readers Put Head to Head.”). Also about their appearance they come in different finishes. Kindles come in a matte finishes, and only in a couple colors. Nooks seem to have the one up there. They have a variety of colors, and they have a shiny finish. One really neat thing that both ereaders do is you can read them when you go to bed, pick up where you left off on the bus ride to work the next morning from your smart phone , then on lunch on your laptop, and then where you left off at lunch you can continue on your ereader ( “Nook vs. Kindle Review”)...

Adobe Systems Case Discussion

...Adobe Systems SYSM6332- summer 2015 Discussion Case 1 David Reboredo Daniel Torres Background: * Adobe Systems was founded in 1982 by John Warnock and Charles Geschke. Initially the company was operating only in the graphics and publishing market. First they introduced PostScript as a desktop publishing application, followed by Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, all of which turned out to be exceptionally successful. The next step was introducing Acrobat and the PDF document format, which also quickly became an industry standard. * In the subsequent years Adobe added to its product mix successful products like PageMaker, After Effects and GoLive by acquisition. Despite all these achievements, the company experienced substantial difficulties during 1998. Important product delivery date was missed, sales declined and the stock price plummeted encouraging a takeover attempt by one of their direct competitors, Quark, Inc. * Bruce Chizen, who was appointed as a CEO later in 2000, managed to stabilize the situation. This was not an easy task, as most of Adobe's executive management left the company while he had to lead a drastic restructuring of the business. Adobe had to carry out a major reform in order to be more profitable. Case Overview: * This case describes the early success Adobe had establishing Postscript as the preferred software application for printing documents. Old School vs Current Learning

...Old School vs Current Learning Old school learning where a student such as myself will sit in a classroom and an instructor talks to the point where if you have insomnia he/she will cure it. With this the student has a book which could have from twenty five pages to five hundred and can be used as a deadly missile if thrown towards another student. Having the instructor on hand to handle questions and review your work while addressing any issues, this helps me a lot as a student because old school, no computers, no eBooks, and actually writing on paper. Going to the library was even part of the curriculum and going through shelves of index cards to find the information for your research paper. No going forward about twenty years, I am back in school and most everything has gone digital. I am enrolled in a technical college and I do have instructors and they present a power point presentation and then we go to the hands on now for me personally this is the best way of learning, they review what we are going to do and then we as a class conduct “Labs” and the instructor comes around and reviews the work we done and if it is not correct, then the instructor goes over where I went wrong and explains it to the class because someone else may have done the lab incorrectly as well and they know where they went wrong. I can go to google and find all the research information to include a research paper someone else did on the same subject. I miss the books the most out of my schooling...

Amazon Strategic Analysis

...You need to say something rather than just launching into it. Option 1: Cost Leadership With a long term strategy based on the ability to be cost leaders in the online retail market, Amazon Inc. strives to ensure all corporate level decisions adhere to this goal. REFERENCE Prices on Amazon.com are around the lowest in terms of products sold and the background services that make it possible for third party traders to make use of the marketplace. This strategy employed has made it possible for Amazon to recognise significant increases in revenue; however they have recently begun to notice changes in their profit margin. A loss of $0.1 billion was recorded last year, REFERENCE which was attributed to modification made to their distribution centres and the underwriting of costs of production for the Kindle Fire. There is a need to for Amazon to increase their profit while striving to maintain the balance between low costs in order to not lose their customers. In order to achieve this they should look to increasing the costs associated with Third Party traders. REFERENCE These fees include: * Subscription Fees * Transaction Fees * Advertising Fees * Affiliate Fees There are risks attached to pursuing this proposed strategy as it involves increasing prices which always serves as a deterrent to customers. Some of which include government regulations, new entrants and pre-existing customers confidence. * Government Regulation: any unfair increases in subscription...

Business Proposal

...in-depth information will show that the numbers support Mr. Bury’s proposal. Market Analysis In the growing technological age and with the introduction of digital reading devices like the iPad® from Apple Inc. or the Kindle® from Amazon.com, the demand for digital reading formatted books has begun to surpass the demand for audio books. With the introduction of this technology, improvements and advances have led to devices that the hearing and visually impaired can also enjoy (National Library Service, 2009). The need for a physically printed book in the modern age is falling behind thanks in part to technology and the internet, and with eBook titles now taking up an estimated 30% of all book titles sold (Bercovici, 2014), it has become apparent that there is a marketplace for applications related to this field. While 30% may not seem like much, take into consideration that eBooks have been around less than a decade, whereas paperbacks have been in print for centuries. With this expanding market, the public is looking new improved applications, and Mr. Bury has developed a user-friendly application that has the ability to read copyrighted digital text. In an age where people can download eBooks to their phones, eReaders, and computers from anywhere with a wifi signal, the application has a vast opportunity for growth ranging from children, students,...

E Reader Ad Critique

The only problem is that other eReaders are already doing this. Television ads are the same way. You can spend thousands of dollars to air your ads, but what separates you from the others? It is extremely difficult to beat an existing entity using the channels that they are already established in. This is why you must segment your audience and attack directly, capturing their attention, their business, and of course their loyalty. With the price of text books on the rise, more and more ebooks are becoming available over countless campuses across the world. While this technology is still new, LibraTech can become the dominant force in the electronic text book market and will...

Ethnicity and the Police

...Ethnicity and the Police (Part II) Monica Angulo CJA/344 August 6, 2014 Instructor Name Ethnicity and the Police Racial profiling indicates the system law enforcement officials use to target people for suspicion of crime grounded on the person's race, ethnicity, religion or national origin. Criminal profiling, usually, as performed by police, is the deduction on a group of characteristics they consider to be connected with crime. An example of racial profiling is the use of race to conclude which motorists to stop for minor traffic violations (usually referred to as "driving while black” or “driving while brown"). The use of race to conclude which individuals to search for illegal paraphernalia is another example of racial profiling. This practice, however, can result contra productive, as highlighted in the following cases. Racial Profiling Gone Wrong Poor judgment calls based on racial profiling have been made by law enforcement officials, where racism and discrimination has taken over violating individuals’ civil rights, creating friction with the community and the public. NYC Cop Testifies to Targeting Young Black Men As hearings began to examine New York City’s stop and frisk policy, one police officer testified that he was instructed by superiors to target young Black men between the ages of 14 and 21. In 2011 alone, New York City police executed 685,724 stops as part of the stop and frisk policy. In total, they had...
