...Topic: Davao City: A Booming Metro of Hotel Business Chapter 1 Introduction Over the years, Hotel business gives a great contribution to the economic progress of the world. Tourists go to places to see spots that attract their attention, and to accommodate them, hotels were built. Many tourists consider luxury as a factor in finding hotels to check into, and so in Europe, hotels vary from accents such as Italian, British, French, and even Irish. There are even hotels that offer affordable services that attract those who are price-conscious tourists. In the Philippines, hotels play a big role in boosting the tourism and to give accommodation to various tourists from all over the world. The City of Davao, which is the center of tourism in Mindanao, houses many kinds of hotels, including big and small ones, expensive and also economy class. Hotels and the hospitality industry have been recorded as far back as biblical time when Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem. As the Bible depicts, Mary and Joseph were refused accommodations because there “was no more room available at the inn.” Since the beginning of time, people have travelled for commerce, religion, family, health, and recreation. The first hotel built in the Philippines was the Hotel Del Oriente in Binondo Manila. The Manila Hotel was built on 1912 and since then, became a Philippine Landmark. One of the first hotels in Davao was built on the year 1996, and through the years, many...

...After analysis of the interpretations as well as use of my own knowledge, I have reached the conclusion that the war was indeed the main reason why the economy boomed in 1920’s America. The interpretations that support this are A, B and C. While certainly there are other factors that are presented in all of the interpretations, I believe that the prominence of the war throughout these 3 passages support the strength of the argument. Interpretation D attributes Andrew Mellon as the main reason for the boom, but as Cannadine is the only one to do so this limits the strength of his argument. The war was the main cause of the boom as it provided the catalyst necessary to start of a chain of events that provided a huge boost to the economy. Without World War I, it could be argued that the American economy would not have boomed to the extent that it did in the 1920’s. One of the main reasons for this school of thought is an argument provided in interpretation A. Jim potter states that World War I provided an ‘impetus both to agricultural and industrial expansion’. This was because of the fact that the war brought in a need for armaments and munitions to supply the forces with, and there were many countries that could not yield the materials and products due to their lacklustre industry. America was not like these countries, and with the stimulus of the war they were able to quickly improve their industries and make these new products. As a result of this, as the historian Gary...

...Weaknesses * No recruiting of English-speaking girls * Less promotion in the international market | Opportunities * Booming of Japan’s music industry * Anti- Piracy law in Japan * Emerging market in Asia Pacific region: Indonesia, Taiwan, and China | Threats * High competition in the market from K-Pop and Johny & Associates boy band factory. * Development of digital music market | Analysis Strength: Now, AKB48 is one of the successful brands in Japan music industry. So far, it has done many successful marketing strategies. Its unique identity put itself to the great position in the market. Therefore, by using a full range of communication channels such as a social network, its own theater and events, AKB48 made many strong loyal customers who made a competitive advantage for the brand. Weakness: Since AKB48 is the Japanese brand that mostly focuses on the domestic market so that it does not provide or promote an international marketing strategy, it might have a poor competitive advantage on international market. Meanwhile, K-Pop is strongly promoting the international marketing and also competing in Japanese market. Opportunity: In the present, the Japan’s music industry is booming because the Anti-Piracy legislation had passed and obsessive collectors inflated the market. Moreover, the trend of Japanese idol girl group is very booming in many Asia Pacific countries so that society is open for the unique girl group bands. Threat: There is a high competition...

...Time flies! I cannot believe that it has been a year since I opened the newspaper and read, “Armistice Signed! End Of The War!.” My name is Jack Smith and I am sixteen years old. My family lives in Antioch, Nebraska located in the Sandhills of Western Nebraska about fifteen miles from Alliance. My little sister, Chloe, is attending the new school that was built during the war. It has eight classrooms, four teachers, indoor plumbing and a gym in the basement. She is lucky to have such a nice place to learn, but I am scared that this might also come to an end. The investors spent $25,000 to build this school when the town was booming. There are also four grocery stores built for goods for the rapid growth of people, and pool halls that entertained the large number of workers that followed the work trail. My town had seen enormous growth ever since two scientists from the University of Nebraska discovered potash in the Sandhills....

...mary: A Metaphor for America is a report on the downward spiral of Scranton, Pennsylvania; a post industrial American city. The author, Chris Hedges uses Scranton as a metaphor for the destruction that will happen to the American economy, government, and people. What was once a booming industrial city, that employed over a thousand people in its Lace company is now a bankrupt. Since management would much rather pay a factory in Bangladesh 25 cents and hour compare to the $20 it paid the Scranton residents. In turn this broke up the stable social structure that the city had once set up, including labour unions, and other social programs that allowed the citizens of the city to lead a comfortable life. Instead they are living paycheck to paycheck...

...The males gather together at the leks and inflate the bright yellow air sacs on either side of their cheeks while simulatenously point their short tails in the air. They slouch their wings to the ground and proceed to dance, stomping their feet rapidly on the ground. While dancing, the male bird emits a “low, mournful whirring sound called “booming”. Intermittent jumps and charges at other males accompany the booming activity which reaches its peak when a female ventures into the lek. This dance is said to have been the source of many of the dances of the native peoples of the American prairie.”...

...Chapter 2 exercise 1 I am part of Generation Y. Generation Y is anyone born from early 1980s to 2000. If I were to start a restaurant and advertise to my generation I would take a survey and see what they are interested. I would make it a fun atmosphere where they can get there sports and music all in one. On the food menu I would keep it simple. I would have Philly cheese steak, nachos, fries, and tacos, pizza simple and quick items that people like. Baby boomers are the oldest generation and Millennial are the youngest. The way I would carter to them is by trying to take a survey and go over the survey. Then I would look over the survey and see what they have most in common based on food and put that on the menu. Then I would take a few items from each generation and put what I could on the menu so that everyone can enjoy that food and the older and the newer generation can get a taste of both. Baby Boomers, born between 1946 and 1964, are competitive and think workers should pay their dues, workplace consultants say. Gen Xers, born between 1965 and 1977, are more likely to be skeptical and independent-minded. Gen Ys—also known as Millennials—were born in 1978 or later and like teamwork, feedback and technology. The key is to be able to effectively address and take advantage of the differences in values and expectations of each generation. But experts say managers must be careful not to follow blanket stereotypes. Managers must also take care not to disadvantage older workers...

...trade market. Countries such as America, Canada, and Russia began to establish oil fields in the early 1900’s and by mid century, these countries produced up to 3,500 tons of petroleum. The first modernized oil refinery was built in Poland. This oil refinery exported petroleum to counties in Europe and in northern Africa. Competition in eastern Europe for oil was getting competitive. The U.S. took over Europe as world leaders of producing oil in the 1920’s. Factories and refineries began popping up all over the country. The hotspots in the U.S. for oil and gas are Charles 2 Texas, Oklahoma, California, and Alaska. These states to this day lead the country with the most oil and gas produced and their economies are based around the booming economy of oil and gas. Offshore oil welling in the Gulf of Mexico also contributes to the industry. Sherwood Boehlert states that, “About 60 percent of the oil consumed daily by Americans is used for transportation, and about 45 percent is used for passenger cars and light trucks.” (Boehlert). Therefore, the history of oil and gas plays a role in today’s use. The current...

The sufficient supply of wood allowed Guillermo to produce an assortment of tables and chairs for his new company. For years, Guillermo was happy and successful with his furniture store. However, in the 1990’s, Guillermo was faced with problematic challenges that damaged his profit margin (University of Phoenix Simulation). Challenges forced Guillermo to figure out how to reconstruct his business. The first challenge was presented by a foreign competitor using a high tech approach with low prices (University of Phoenix Simulation). The second challenge Guillermo faced was with the booming economy in Sonora, Mexico. The booming economy brought in new jobs and more people that resulted in driving up the cost of labor. Guillermo always relied on a relatively low cost of labor for many years so he was forced with higher labor costs and a lower profit margin. To reconstruct his business, he decided to use the finance concepts to establish his...
