...The Boondocks -vs- Consumerism Consumerism is normally something that Americans associate with our economy or large corporations, but it has definitely gone beyond just these two concepts. In today’s society, consumerism has managed to spread to movies, songs, advertisements, and more importantly to television shows. Consumerism has been defined by Dictionary.com as, “a modern movement for the protection of the consumer against useless, inferior, or dangerous products, misleading advertising, and unfair pricing.” Aaron McGruder’s, episode of the animated Cartoon Network show, The Boondocks “The Block is Hot,” is about how a heat wave comes to the town of Woodcrest in the middle of the winter. A neighborhood girl named Jazmin starts a lemonade stand, which is bought by a businessman, Mr. Wuncler. Meanwhile, 10-year old political activist, Huey, stands on a soap box and talks about violations of human rights issues. Through these features, one can see how consumerism plays a role in this television show. Because this episode has the distinctive features most animated television shows have, of addressing real issues by exaggerating them, having recurring characters that the audience is familiar with and having a conflict or problem that is usually solved by the end of the episode, it demonstrates how consumerism isn’t just associated with our economy or large corporations. In, “The Block is Hot,” Aaron McGruder displays a distinctive feature that most animated television shows...

He wants them to fit in and give them better opportunities but the brothers are not interested in fitting in. They view the world differently. The Boondocks deals with racial views of blacks and whites, such examples are when Huey talks about in...

...The Boondock Saints I chose to view and analyze the film The Boondock Saints. There were many different elements I focused on while viewing the film. These elements were broken down into the following categories: narrative, theatrical elements, cinematography, editing, sound, and the overall experience. I will begin with stating my personal interpretations and my own understandings of the narrative. Throughout the film there are two main characters. These two characters are Irish brothers that share a deep sense of their Catholic religion. Their names are Murphy and Connor McManus. Murphy and Connor are two ordinary men who are put in an extraordinary situation; Connor risks his own life to save the life of his brother. The situation starts from a bar fight with two Russian mafia soldiers. The Russians lose the fight with the two brothers; the next morning they come after the McManus brothers for revenge. Murphy and Connor kill the two men in self defense and go to the police station. While in the holding cell, they are given a message from a spiritual force to rid the world of evil men. From that moment they devote themselves to a battle between good and evil. Another important character is David Della Rocco, also known as the “Funny Man” or just Rocco. Rocco is a package boy for the Yakaveta family Italian mafia. The head of the Yakaveta family is “Papa” Joe Yakaveta. “Papa” Joe sets up Rocco in a situation to have him killed; Rocco finds out about “Papa” Joe’s plans and...

...many different groups of people in our society today helping create more television shows. People all come from different backgrounds, different locations, and different generations; fortunately this creates even more opportunity for television show creators because they are able to make more television shows based on all these differences within our society. Two television shows that specifically show the differences within our society are South Park and the Boondocks. South Park and the Boondocks are similar televisions shows, yet have differences between them as well. To begin with, the big difference between the shows is that the main characters of each are different races, and similarity of the two is that each week one issue is dedicated to an entire episode. Comedy Central’s South Park is an animated show made for an older audience created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker. The show is known for being extremely offensive to most people but the creators say there is a lesson to be learned in every episode. The Boondocks is an animated show that was created by Aaron McGruder. The show is based on race relations and African American culture. Race, ethnicity and class are three topics easily found throughout the weekly episodes. People in our society tend to watch more and more television shows that relate more and more to them personally....

...There have been so many cliffhangers in The Walking Dead that make viewers keep coming back to watch more. There is no line between good and evil characters, they all do bad things and they all do good things that can complicate the plot even more. No viewer knows what way the plot is going to go. There is always time for unexpected turns. With The Boondock Saints, there is a clear line between good and evil characters. You can always expect the good characters to come out on top of the evil characters. It is easy to predict what the outcome of the film will be. The difference between the plot of television shows and films is very clear. The creators of films have to take time into consideration when thinking about a complex plot. They have to make a clean ending that their viewers can understand. Television shows have the ability to create a very complex plot because they have the time to make a clean and neat...

...[pic] Management consulting To the brainy, the spoils As the world grows more confusing, demand for clever consultants is booming May 11th 2013 | NEW YORK |From the print edition [pic] ELITE management consultancies shun the spotlight. They hardly advertise: everyone who might hire them already knows their names. The Manhattan office that houses McKinsey & Company does not trumpet the fact in its lobby. At Bain & Company’s recent partner meeting at a Maryland hotel, signs and name-tags carried a discreet logo, but no mention of Bain. The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), which announced growing revenues in a quiet press release in April, counts as the braggart of the bunch. [pic] Consultants have a lot to smile about (see table). The leading three strategy consultancies have seen years of double-digit growth despite global economic gloom. In 2011, the last year for which Kennedy Information, a consulting-research group, has comparable revenue numbers, Bain grew by 17.3%, BCG by 14.5% and McKinsey by 12.4%. All three are opening new offices. Big trends that befuddle clients mean big money for clever consultants. Barack Obama’s gazillion-page health reform has boosted health-care consulting; firms would rather pay up than read the blasted thing. The Dodd-Frank financial reform has done the same for financial-sector work. Energy and technology are hot, too. Companies are reluctant to talk about their use of consultants, and consultancies are relentlessly tight-lipped...

...Effects of Global Warming Name Professor Course Institution Date [Effects of global warming] The earth environment is warming up every day this is a direct result of the gasses discharged day by day some of these gasses incorporate methane, carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) nitrous oxides and extra time this gasses are caught in the long-wave radiation from the Earth bringing on the air to warmth up. Researchers accept that more prominent measures of carbon dioxide in the environment, and more smoking temperatures on Earth, will essentially change the atmosphere over the entire planet. To understand this it will be necessary we understand what leads to global warming. An Earth-wide temperature boost is created by a sensation known as the nursery impact. A nursery (or glasshouse) is useful for developing things on the grounds that it traps warm inside and stays more sizzling than the air around it. A standout amongst the most quick and evident impacts of a worldwide temperature alteration is the increment in temperatures around the globe. The normal worldwide temperature has expanded by around 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degrees Celsius) in the course of recent years, as indicated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Earth's environment acts like a massive nursery, however it traps warm an alternate way. Gasses high in the air, for example, carbon dioxide and methane, carry on like a monster bit of bended glass wrapped right round...

...American exceptionalism alludes to the uncommon character of the Assembled States as an interestingly free country in light of vote based beliefs and individual freedom. Be that as it may, regularly the political contrasts are said to be supported by material contrasts realized by the riches/assets of the Assembled States, some of the time seen as an immediate result of the flexibility of the American individuals, however by others as the result of the legacy of the North American mainland's bottomless assets. ... larger county road is the place I call “home”. Here, my mother raised three girls without the help or companionship of a husband. The house set back about 200 feet from the road. As we stroll up the dirt drive lined with rows of wild gladiolas on each side, sits the tidy small, unpainted old frame house. On the porch, I can't help but notice a high-backed rocker on one side and a bench worn smooth by age on the other. Both remind me of the many hours spent here enjoying the weather and view. Turning the door knob and entering the foyer is like taking a step back in time. The door, is the same as when I was a kid, the windows are free of curtains, only shades yellowing from age, pulled at night, as if privacy is needed out here in the boondocks. Mom's big over-stuffed floral couch is set beside the well-stocked bookcase. One lonely picture with the words "Home, Sweet Home" hangs on the wall over the fireplace. Just to the right is a doorway, minus a door, calling us to investigate the sweet smell drifting our way. Upon entering the kitchen, a rich smell of freshly baked bread overtakes the senses. Mom removes the loaves from the belly of the oven leaving them to cool in neat rows on the old marble table. The walls were white and had little kitchen knick knacks like chickens and things of that...

...Children from the now of days spend more time watching television than they do in the classroom. This can be helpful to children if it’s used as a learning tool, like channel 11, or Dora, Word World or other educational cartoons shows. The level of violence that they see on Cartoon Network is to violent and not educational or just plain fun entertainment like I use to watch. Morning programming is about 20 to 25 violent acts per hour. Are we just looking for ratings or popularity? At this rate, the average American child will see 8,000 murders before they finish elementary school! This has to stop our children will have no child hood not an innocent one. As a child sits in front of Television, with his or her eyes glued to the TV and not making a sound in being so in to a channel you have not selected, you may want to sit down and actually view what they watching. One day I sat with my children and let them navigate the channels and of course SpongeBob came on. At first it was ok then Patrick and SpongeBob began to curse but using words that grownups may use so children don’t know they are cursing, and my children began to laugh as if they knew what they were saying. I immediately got upset and changed the channel and banned it form in my house hold. We have to remember that the entertainment media plays an extremely powerful role in the formation of values and morals, to all youngsters' minds of all ages. These programs "play" with kids' minds; these programs have a tremendous...

...when deciding between digital cable and satellite. It is not fair to say only one raise prices because, honestly, they both do and will continue to do so. Therefore, to compare prices and quality, we must compare packages as similar as possible. Cox Communications is a relatively large company with a monopoly in many of the areas it services. If someone is unhappy about the service Cox provides, they are usually only left with one of the satellite providers. Something that is not often expressed by this provider is that its prices can vary greatly from place to place depending on availability. If you live in a suburban area where there are numerous people, the prices will be closer to the average of $55 a month; if you live in the boondocks, getting digital cable will often be much more expensive if even possible to get due to the underground wiring required (Cable TV vs. Satellite TV). The fees attached to cable...

Something they have been working towards for years. When people viewed the music video, they realized the actual meaning of the lyrics and moral meaning which is jealousy. Knowing that the man this woman used to love is loving someone else, she is jealous and wants everything she has. Once people finally realized, it resulted in increased radio play. According to Rolling Stone magazine, “The quartet has overtaken the 10-week reign at the top for the Browns' 1959 classic, "The Three Bells," which was previously the longest run for a group (of at least three members) at Number One in the chart's history.” Little Big Town spent 11 weeks...

I have the ability to draw still life. My dream is to become a still life artist. The skill of drawing cartoons started in 6th grade when my teacher gave me a Garfield coloring book. Once I got home, my cousin and I decided to have a contest to see who could draw Oldie, the dog, from Garfield. Turns out I won and he was mad. The good about it was that I didn’t trace and anything. Once that happened, I realized that I could draw. Once I finished drawing Garfield, I moved on to other cartoons such as The Flintstones, Mickey Mouse & friends, The Boondocks, etc. Then I wanted to expand my skills which were to draw...

Masked as a local, Kipling emulated the Great Game agents to move among the Afghans and Pathans. He went to Jamrud and talked with warriors with involvement in wilderness fighting. He gathered data through the get-togethers of Simla. In Kim, Kipling melded the genuine work of the Indian Survey Department with anecdotal English intelligence operations, which utilized Asian specialists with cryptonyms like The Mirza or E5, to develop a mixture association profoundly occupied with counterintelligence activities on the boondocks and inside the Indian subcontinent. Other than Colonel Creighton who, as Control, is normally English, Kipling's legends are all Asian: the Afghan stallion merchant, Mahbub Ali; the Indian master of disguises, Hurree Babu; and the mysterious agent E23. ...

...Bullying is an ordinary problem among teenagers today. Different types of bullying effect people in many different ways. The novel, The Body of Christopher Creed demonstrates different people bullying other human beings for no good reason. Renee Bowen, Alex Arrington, and most importantly, Mrs. Creed are examples of bullying used in the novel; each uses different types of bullying. Renee Bowen verbally bullies other kids in school, who are not friends with her, but is seen as a nice girl, until people get to meet her, and then she is neither so nice nor friendly. When Renee meets Ali at the WaWa; Renee gets up in Ali’s face and bullies her by calling her and her mom sluts because of the rumors she started. This is evident as Torey states, “Your stupid sex life makes it a problem where you stay!” Renee hollered. “I didn’t cause your legendary rep, Ali! You caused it! If people think you’re a slut, that’s because you practically begged them to! My dad told me about your mother. Well, guess what? You’re no better.” (Plum- Ucci, 207) Renee also surprisingly bullies Bo Richardson. When they were at the WaWa, Renee spots Bo and gets frightened, when Bo starts making fun of how scared she looks; she says, “I’m not scared of you, you ‘tard,” she croaked” (Plum – Ucci,...
