Genocide is a horrible crime committed by people. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum defines the term genocide as “Genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group…”. They this when they intentionally kill, physically or mentally harm, sterilize, and force labor on the members of the group. In other words a genocide is the intention of destroying a mass group of a specific type of people by killing or dehumanizing the people in that group. There have been over 22 genocides in the world. Hopefully, genocides will come to an end. One of those many genocides is the Bosnian genocide. The Bosnian genocide took place in Bosnia in 1992 and ended …show more content…
Shortly after, Bosnia then declared independence. The Serbs then decided to kill the helpless civilians from Bosnia and Croatia for an ethical cleaning. The Serbs had an ethical cleaning because they were fighting with the Bosnians over the territory that was originally part of the Serbian territory. The Serbs then lost the land when Bosnia claimed their independence. This one of the reasons that started this genocide. Moreover, one of the other reasons is that Bosnia is a Muslim country. The Serbs despised Muslims. They even started a propaganda and claimed that Bosnian Muslims planned on killing all of the Serbian people. The Serbs, however, started this genocide to cleanse the world from the Muslims. The Serbs were from Serbia. Most of those Serbia were Orthodox Christians had strong, negative feelings toward the Muslims. Those feelings were influenced by propaganda. Accordingly, all of this propaganda started with one person. Slobodan Milosevic rose to power in Serbrinca in 1987 after President Josip Broz Tito died in 1980. He changed the constitution to the Serbs favor and had 90% of the army Serbians. Slobodan also did everything he could to control social media. Some the stages in this genocide is classification. Classification was used when the propaganda started. Another stage is discrimination because its used when …show more content…
It is important to learn about this because it shows that you can’t be afraid to speak up and don’t worry about what others think. If someone did say something the genocide would have stopped sooner and not as many people would’ve died. An estimate of 15 thousand men tried to escape and over 3 thousand of those men were killed in Srebrenica. Up to 8,000 men and teenage boys had been killed in four day massacre in Srebrenica. Most women were tortured and raped. If the women had a baby from being raped, the babies were called ‘Serbian babies’. The female and male prisoners were seperated and there were only a couple of camps. The prisoners in the camps were beaten, starved from water and food, tortured, and were finally killed. “Reconciliation cannot be possible without recognition of the crimes committed. Nothing can bring back their loved ones or erase their trauma…” says that nothing can take things back once they are committed or said. Once something as serious as a genocide happens, nothing and no one will be the same

...Bosnian Genocide Genocide is deliberate killing of an ethnic group or nation. The term was created after the holocaust when Hitler systematically tried to eradicate all the Jews. Genocide still happens today, and the effects will always be there. The Bosnian genocide is still a big issue in Eastern Europe. The Bosnian genocide fits into two different categories of genocide is ideological. They fit into these categories because Serbia generally thought they were better, they only attacked Bosnians, and treated them like the Nazi’s did with Jews. After WW2 ended many countries in east Europe formed The People’s Republic of Yugoslavia. These countries included Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia. In the late 80’s and early 90’s Serbia started to dislike the other countries. When the Serbian National Assembly was created it boosted national pride. Slabadon Milosevic, the head of the Assembly started to give Serbian’s pride. He promoted the fact that Serbians mainly made up the most of the Yugoslavia military, and said that they are the strongest race because they are the most represented group in the military. What they did with the military is a whole different story....

The population is less than half of London. Bosnia was part of the Turkish empire until 1878 and then became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until World War 1. After the war Bosnia along with other surrounding Slav territories were united to form the country of Yugoslavia, which was run by communist President Josip Broz Tito until his death in 1980. Eugenics

...If someone asked 100 average Americans about eugenics, the overwhelming majority of them would likely announce that they had a negative impression of the concept, rightly or wrongly. Over the last century, eugenics — which is defined as good genetics — has had a checkered history due to how different governments and political leaders have tried to implement the theory. These failed eugenics attempts have had severe socio-political consequences on countries around the world. Within this paper, three eugenics-based policies will be addressed in greater detail. These policies are: birth control, race-based sterilization policies and genocide (on varying scales). Birth control is a relatively recent phenomenon — primarily entering the national agenda after the Industrial Revolution as more and more families left the countryside and moved into urban areas. Prior to this demographic shift, birth control had only been practiced by a handful of people and the methods that were utilized (such as abstinence and withdrawal) had a relatively high failure rate (A brief history of, 2014). Following the Industrial Revolution, birth control was introduced at different rates in different countries — driven by demographic differences, as well as each country's individual religious beliefs and preferences. Certain religions have been much more adamantly opposed to birth control than others. Interestingly, the United States was one of the slowest countries to embrace birth control. In fact, a...

Celebrity Activism

...The conversation of celebrity activism in our modern world is one that is very intricate and of great interest to many in the academic community of communications. This topic has led many scholarly authors to write concerning the matter and make claims based on research and case studies as to the effectiveness of celebrity activism. In an effort to make this conversation and its various positions easier to understand and visualize, I have created a conversation map bringing together various articles on the subject of celebrity activism. The map shows several claims from the authors’ articles and how the ideas presented in the articles relate to other pieces. This paper serves as an explanation to the map mentioned above. The map has four main...

It helps for students to be able to discuss the questions and readings with other students. If so, it is absolutely essential that students read the assigned articles in advance of the discussion. They will need to consult the readings to find pertinent passages, but if they are reading it for the first time during group work, they will either not finish or not contribute. I remind my students of this fact several times in the days leading up to the project. If students don’t finish during class, they can finish at home. If done in groups in class, you may wish to suggest that a different student act as recorder for each block of questions. Also, assign a different student to be the discussion leader/gatekeeper to keep the discussion on track and prevent any single individual from dominating the discussion. A third student could function as timekeeper. See Chapter 11 and 14 role-playing activities for further discussion of these tasks. Remind students that Balkan and Middle East politics are always changing and can get...
