...Bottle Company Case Study Statistics MAT/300 As Manager of the Harley Bottle Company, I have been receiving complaints from customers on the quantity of product received when purchasing our sixteen ounces soda bottles. These complaints have caused my boss to worry and would like me to investigate the issue at hand. I will begin my investigation by instructing the employees to pull at random 30 bottles from all the shifts at the bottling plant. By pulling random containers from all shifts, I can eliminate the possibility of if being a human error. To start my investigation I begin by weighing the sample size of 30 bottles. The weight ranges between 14 oz. and 16.1oz., which lets be know there is a problem with our bottling consistence. For more detailed information to complete my investigation I must calculate the Mean, Median, and Standard Deviation of the sample size. * The Mean is the sum of the sample size in ounces divided by sample size. Based on the sample size of 30 bottles, there is a total of 446.1 ounces divided by the sample size of 30, gives is the mean of 14.87. = 14.87 * The Median is the data set middle number when the set is sorted in numerical order. Median of the 30 bottles is 14.8. * Standard deviation is the measure of how spread out the numbers is. To find the (Standard Deviation), you must find the square root of the variance. The is 0.5503. The Harley Bottling Company is very optimistic of is bottling process. I will now construct...

Bottle Company Case Study

...I am a manger over a bottling company called Smith Bottling. I have been the manager with this company for the past 10 years and this is the first complaint of this magnitude and I want to ensure that the issue is proved and resolved. We have been getting complaints from customers that the 16 ounce bottles are less that advertised. We pride ourselves here on customer service and want to ensure all customers are receiving what they pay for and happy with their purchase. First step was to obtain samples to test. I asked a few employees to obtain 30 bottles (wanted a good range of sample). The initial weights of the samples taken for review were 14oz. and 16 oz. After taking these samples, I have to bring myself to the realization that there was in fact a problem with the bottling amount. I thought by calculating the Mean, Median and the Standard Deviation, I could come up with better numbers and provide a better detail to my investigation. The mean is the total of the samples divided by the actual number of samples that were taken. Since I took 30 bottles, and the total numbers of ounces were 446.1 this provides a mean of 14.87. The median is the middles number once all samples are sorted in numerical order. I figured the median to be 14.8. The standard deviation is the distance each number is from the next number. I had to find the square root of the variance giving me a number of 0.5503. Smith Bottling is hopeful of our process and wants to make sure every...

...Running head: BOTTLING COMPANY CASE STUDY 1 Bottling Company Case Study BOTTLING COMPANY CASE STUDY 2 Abstract In this assignment, I am a manager at a major bottling company and the customers have begun to make complaints that the bottles of the brand of soda produced at the company I work for have less than the advertised 16 ounces of soda. My boss wants me to solve the problem and has asked me to investigate into the situation. I have the employees on the floor pull 30 bottles off the line at random from every shift which I assume is from three shifts and I have asked the employees involved to measure the amount of soda there is in each of the 30 bottles. The Mean, Median and Standard Deviation The mean or average of a data set is simply the average of all the numbers in the set. To find the average mean add up all the numbers in the data set and divide by how many numbers in the set. In this situation, there are 30 bottles with the weight of 14.5, 14.6, 14.7,14.8,14.9,15.3,14.9, 15.3, 14.9,15.5,14.8,15.2,15,15.1,15,14.4,15.8,14,16,16,15.8,14.5,14.1,14.2,14,14.9,14.7,14.5, 14.6,14.8, and 14.6. The total is 446.1 and divided by 30 and the mean is 14.87. The median is calculated by arranging the data in order and selecting the middle point and in this data set the median is an even number so we have to add the...

The rate of growth has remained steady in recent years, with volumes passing 100m cases during the 2005-2006 financial year. With the average age of the population on the decrease and income levels on the increase, the popularity of beer in the country continues to rise. Industry Consolidation and Emergence of a new Bi-polar Market Dynamic The Indian beer industry has witnessed a big change during the last five years. The industry was previously dominated by competition between the Vijay Mallya-controlled United Breweries Group and the Manu Chabbriacontrolled Shaw Wallace. The scenario changed, however, with the entry of SABMiller in India. The international beer giant started by acquiring small breweries in the south but then completely changed the landscape with the acquisition of Shaw Wallace’s beer portfolio for a reported US$132m in 2003. This gave SABMiller ownership of strong brands like Haywards 5000, along with its existing brands. ...Soda company | Bottling Company Case Study | Dr. Gregory Wright | | Michael Painter | 12/10/2015 | Statistics | Bottling Company Case Study Customer satisfaction is important to any business that is in business to please their customers who buy their products. That is no different than where I’m at as a manager of a bottling company. I want to make my customers happy and there have been complaints that our sodas are not meeting the labeled size of sixteen ounces. Customers are saying that there are less than sixteen ounces in our bottle. I plan to perform tests to see if we really do having a problem and if we do we need to correct the issue. For use to determine what is going on we collected a sample of bottles from all shifts at the plant for a total of 30 bottles. We calculated the amount of liquid in ounces of each bottle and recorded our date. We determined from the data gathered that out mean is 15.85 ounces, the mode was 16.21 ounces and the median was 15.99 ounces. From the data gathered we were then able to determine the standard deviation of the thirty bottles which was 0.66138 ounces. This information will allow us to see what our average is with the mean and from our average we are below the promised 16 ounces we promote. Then we look at our mode and it shows that our most commonly seen number is 16.21 ounces which tells our team that we have several bottles that are over 16 ounces. Once we achieve those numbers we construct a 95 percent confidence...

Battling Company Case Study

...Bottling Company Case Study Vincent Bacon Dr. Pamela Self MAT 300 Statistics December 14, 2013 Bottling Company Case Study Calculate the mean, median, and standard deviation for ounces in the bottles. To determine the mean, which is the statistical average of all numbers involved, we will add the number of ounces together and divide by the number of bottles, in this case 30. For the mean we get 446.1 / 30, for a mean of 14.9. The median, however, is the ‘middle’ number of the bottles ounces. Since we have an even number, it will be the average of the two middle numbers, which will give us a better perspective of the average than just the mean will. In this case it will be 14.8 + 14.8 / 2, which equals 14.8. The standard deviation is calculated to show how far apart the data can be. In the bottling case, after using the mean to get the variance, we divided by 30-1 to get a standard deviation of 0.55 (rounded down to two decimal places). Construct a 95% Confidence Interval for the ounces in the bottles. In order to construct a confidence interval, we need several statistics. The first is the sample mean, which is 14.9. Since we have selected a confidence interval of 95%, we need to find the margin of error to calculate our findings. Using the t-score model ( compute alpha, find the critical probability [.975], the degrees of freedom [999]) (StatTrek, 2013), we find that the critical value is 1.96. When we multiply this by the confidence interval...

Benny Breweries: Bottle Replenishment

...Operations Management Case Study - 2 Benny Breweries: Bottle Replenishment THE BOTTLE REPLENISHMENT DECISION Early in 2004, Manish Krishnan, purchasing manager for Benny Breweries, Mangalore, was trying to determine how many bottles to purchase in the coming year. During 2003, the market had leveled off, and 2004 sales predictions were difficult. On the one hand, Krishnan wanted to be sure that sufficient bottles were available to supply 2004 sales levels, yet also wanted to minimize year-end inventories. Covered storage space for empty bottles was tight, and a bottle design change seemed possible in 2005 or 2006. COMPANY BACKGROUND Benny Breweries was located in Mangalore. Over the years, the company had established an excellent reputation. Benny Beer had begun to gain popularity of late, and as a result, a modest market expansion started in 2000. In February 2004, sales reached the highest level in the company’s history. However, in 2003, the sales increase had been well below the trend average (see Exhibits 1 and 2). Four sales peaks occurred during the year: Holi, Christmas, Easter and Onam (refer appended note). Holi was the highest sales period but each peak caused the company to operate on tight schedules and Benny hired more labor and scheduled extra shifts. BREWING PROCESS Beer brewing started with extraction of sugar from malt by an enzymic process. This sugar was then boiled with hops, producing a sterilized and concentrated solution. The resins extracted from the...

The Current Situation of the Company: The main source of our study comes from an intensive case study that illustrates Hawaiian Punch’s “Go-to-Market Strategy” decision option, faced by the company’s Marketing Director Kate Hoedebeck during the time span from year 2004 to 2005.
